When I first read about the potential rule, I thought WTF? But now that I see the exceptions, I think it's a decent proposal. It seems to me, though, that this may come into play more early in the season and late in the season. Guys like Crochet would have to be shut down, sent to AAA, or relegated to the bullpen. It's not uncommon for teams to manage innings for pitchers coming back from injury or to save their arms for the playoffs.

Fletcher definitely needs to play almost every day. It can only help his development. He may not end up being much, but sitting on the bench 75% of the time isn't going to help figure out how good he can be. He seems to have the energy in the OF and has made some good plays. Hopefully his bat can come around a bit. As far as Vargas, I think we were under the assumption that he would get much more playing time with the Sox than he did in LA. That really hasn't happened yet. Again, like Fletcher, he needs to be playing consistently to see what he has.

It's worse on Twitter (X). There are people on there that post every time Burger hits a home run. I admit, I like Burger and didn't like the trade. But living in the past does nothing. Remember, if the past calls, let it go to voicemail.

Without distractions like bad defense or getting a bad call, Kopech is a very good pitcher. The problem is he quickly loses composure when faced with adversity. He's playing on a much better team now, so it's likely he'll pitch better. But as someone else pointed out, he was lights out for his last few appearances with the Sox. Maybe listening to the coaches is a good thing? Honestly, though, I hope he does well moving forward, but I don't miss him.

I think Grady is going to end up being a fan favorite. He's already shown more energy and enthusiasm than Pedro ever did. I don't think anyone expects the Sox to turn their season around and start winning many more games, but it seems to me they're playing with more purpose now. I have no doubt Pedro was part of the problem. As someone else mentioned, he made a bad team worse. Grady will probably make a bad team...less bad. If the Sox do end up playing better and win more games, there will be those who think he'll deserve the job full time. Getz said they're going to go outside the organization and look for someone with managing experience, so I don't imagine he will get the job. But maybe this will allow him to get his foot in the door and end up as a bench coach somewhere next season.

For now. Hopefully with a new manager they bring in a entirely new staff.

So, bringing Jerschele up could mean he'll be part of the MLB staff next year?

I imagine Montoyo will be the interim. Hopefully they do an actual search for a new manager. We've heard about Schumaker but not really anyone else. There are some good candidates out there, but I just have a bad feeling they already have their guy all but hired and it'll be disappointing.

It doesn't matter who the GM is as long as JR owns the team. They will not have the authority to sign a big free agent. It's going to be a perpetual cycle of aging vets, sub-par former potential stars, and youngsters. But, a competent manager could do something with a ragtag roster. Grifol is bad at his job. I do think with a better manager, this team is not in the situation there are now. No, I'm not saying they're significantly better, but they'd be in a position where players actually try. Miguel Vargas' face last night says it all. They are miserable.

I voted for Montoyo mainly because I don't want to see a guy like Sizemore or Santos be tainted by this team. Those guys have the real chance of being managers some day. Let Montoyo steer this sinking, floundering mess the rest of the way.

There were some on X upset that so many people were happy Eloy is gone. The guy was injured all the time, didn't take the game seriously, was a complete oaf in the field, and hit the ball into the ground 73% of the time. I don't know if he was literally fragile or his lack of preparation led to his injuries, but he has essentially useless for a long time. Good riddance, addition by subtraction, etc. I can't wait for him to hit a HR for Baltimore and people start crying that he's fixed. For him to ultimately get better, a change of scenery won't do it. He needs a change of mindset. Stop clowning around, stay fit, and listen to the coaches.

There is absolutely no reason to keep Grifol employed for the rest of the season. Sure, it won't make a difference in the long run, but I believe he's lost the team. Any other team would have fired their manager after last season, let alone letting him manage past the halfway point of a second season.

Considering the weak return the Tigers got for Flaherty, I think it's good the Sox held on to Crochet. Now, don't let him get hurt for god's sake.

Paul DeJong played like...Paul DeJong this season. He was pretty much what we expected, except he was not as good defensively. It's sad that he was the leader in HRs for the team considering there are other players named Vaughn, Robert, Jimenez, and Moncada that SHOULD have hit more HRs. Obviously there were injuries, but there was also piss-poor performance.

The return is fine. We knew Paul DeJong was not going to net anything of real value. This pitcher is at least doing well in A-ball. Who knows?

My guess is we'll see DeJong and Brebbia moved near the deadline for little, and Crochet stays. We'll hear several teams were close but no one matched up well enough.

Brebbia had been pitching well recently. Hopefully his giving up the grand slam to Witt doesn't hurt his value too much...not that we'd expect much back for him.

After seeing how badly Getz handled the Fedde/Pham/Kopech trade, he can't be trusted with trying to maximize Robert's value right now. Even a good GM could only get .$75 on the dollar. Robert has not been great this year. Hopefully he can get back on track and finish the season strong. Maybe trade him in the off season.

Yeah, true. But Fedde alone is worth Vargas and one of those guys.

I can understand being hopeful of a couple promising Dodgers prospects and acquiring them for the future...the far future, but you need to get more. A guy or two in the team's top 15 that could help the team in 2025. I know Vargas will get much more playing time in Chicago, and maybe he'll be fine. But damn, this an historically bad trade.
