Lance Lynn needs to put his big boy pants on and pitch well tonight. The Sox probably used up most of the runs they were allotted for this series last night. As our optimistic friend Steve Stone keeps saying, the Sox just need to keep winning series. They put themselves in a tough spot by losing Monday. Now they need to go beat a pitcher that's been pretty good lately.

GT 8/2: You'll get nothing and like it

With the Twins improving today, the Sox doing nothing, and lackadaisical play, the Sox will soon be far in the Twins rearview mirror. -

TA needs to be benched. Lazy effort twice. The last one cost a run. Who cares at this point if it means Leury plays. -
This board and White Sox Twitter will implode.

What a horrible defensive outfield. -
Grab them both, and then limit Grandal's playing time...a lot. He's obviously still not 100%. Or even close.
-
Happ and Contreras are both in the Cubs lineup for tonight. I can't imagine at least one of them not being traded.
-
There's still time, but this feels like a "we had some discussions but nothing came together; we feel good with what we have on the field right now" kind of day.
-
They could add Pederson or Martinez, and they'd be bench bats with TLR continuing to play Leury and Sheets everyday.
-
"Lynn returning to form, Eloy getting healthy, and Robert coming back is like acquiring three great additions!"

Will the Soto deal be the move that breaks the dam? Not that there were many teams in on Soto, but there was probably some wait and see attitudes by other teams.
-
Without some significant changes, I'd say it's over. I do think a change in leadership would instantly make the team better. However, there are too many holes and too much money tied up in dead weight.
-
It's bad that the team is 3 games out, and we're talking about selling. I'm not saying the discussions are wrong. I don't think there are many of us, if any, that are confident the Sox can take the division let alone go anywhere in the playoffs. The offensive woes continue, and they're not going to get better enough. That being said, I don't think there's any way they sell. They probably should at least re-tool, but it's not going to happen.

Today should be an eventful day. I don't like the tweets I saw yesterday alluding to the Sox focusing on pitching and not hitting all while the team fell asleep at the plate...again. Some new blood in the lineup could help, but I think we all know what needs to change. Sleepy Tony and Useless Frank need to go. There's no excuse for the miserable performance after miserable performance we've seen on offense this season. The Sox will most likely add another bullpen arm, and I'm not sure if we'll see much else. We've already heard that they had a seat at the Ohtani table, although it was most likely the kids' table off in the corner. We'll probably also hear that they made an offer for Soto. I think we'll have to face the fact that what we see on the field is what we'll have for the rest of the season...including plenty of Leury.

Tired of seeing the reports/quotes that the Sox don't have many holes to fill when everyone is healthy. First, this team hasn't been healthy all season. Second, there are several areas that we consider holes because they should be upgraded. I'm getting nervous, though, that the Sox aren't going to do much or even anything for one reason or another. Whether they believe in the team they have, or they lowball any offers for guys who could actually improve this team. I imagine we'll start seeing some action today, and tonight into tomorrow could be interesting. Let's hope they Sox are active and end up with something more than a seat at the table.

Interesting. Wonder who he might have been asking about.

There are too many wasted roster spots on this team. If the Sox make a trade and need to make room for a better player, they need to do what they need to do. Sheets needs to go? Fine. Burger, Leury, one of the catchers? Do it. Worrying about what to do if the Sox add a good player is a waste of time. This is no time to worry about feelings or throwing away money (Leury). This team can get much better with a few moves, and if they're serious about competing for more than just the division, they need to make those moves and ship out the dead weight.
-
Yeah, this is dumb. On paper, one could argue that they have plenty of outfield options in Vaughn, Sheets, Engel, and Garcia to go along with actual outfielders Robert and Pollock. And 2B is covered with Harrison and Garcia. And they have five starting pitchers. But in the real world, the Sox need a real outfielder for RF, a better solution at 2B, and some bullpen help. Another starting pitcher wouldn't be a bad thing, either. So, even when healthy, the Sox do not have a truly complete roster. There are still holes.

If the price is low, I think adding Quintana is a good thing. He's having a nice year, and he'd give the Sox another arm to use as we head (hopefully) toward the playoffs. Kopech is most likely inning limited, Giolito has been iffy, and Lynn is probably still not 100%. You don't necessarily want to plan on a starting pitcher going on the IL, but if (when) one of them does, we're running out of time, and we can't have any throwaway games.
-
I do think there's something to him being so bad in NY because of the big national stage. I'm not saying he'd do a 180 if he came here, but I wouldn't be surprised if his hitting improved.

Old Sock Drawer, ex Sox player discussion

The bat could have hit another player and Eloy would have gone on the IL out of sympathy.
