  1. You can see Harrison’s hand is still shaking. I’ll be surprised if he finishes the game.
  2. He needs to play the remaining three games against Baltimore. I can almost excuse him not playing today, but I don't trust TLR to handle this kid properly. "He'll play a lot." "Getting him used to the pitching." "There's a righty pitching." "Who? Sosa? Didn't he retire?"
  3. The trouble with even thinking about the Sox making a major move is trusting them to make a good one. Their track record is horrid. With the lack of LH power hitters even available, they'll either A) drastically overpay or B) acquire someone that is not a difference maker. I think option C) not doing anything is safer.
  4. Both, but probably more of Jose's greatness. Moncada and Robert wince and limp around every time they swing a bat. I think a lot of that is theater/habit, especially with Robert. But Jose would probably have to be missing a leg before he would agree to sit. It's amazing how many guys have hurt themselves, to the point of having to go on the IL, by running to 1st. Jose takes a baseball to the face, a bat to the knee, and still plays.
  5. TLR's public statement was that Robert had leg soreness or something like that, specifying that was why he didn't stretch his last hit into a double. I'm thinking he was pulled because of a lack of hustle, and Tony gave him a public excuse.
  6. If Mendick is going to be on the shelf for a while, the Sox won't have to make a move on the current roster aside from an IL stint for Mendick. But they'll need to make a 40-man move. As others have mentioned, there are plenty of options to DFA to make room for Sosa. If and when Sosa joins the Sox, he will need to play most games. I can see giving Harrison the occasional start at 2B, but he'll need to be the primary second baseman going forward. I don't trust TLR to handle him correctly. Look how long it took him to realize that Vaughn is a great hitter and needs to play everyday (and not bat 9th). Without proper handling, Sosa will not benefit from making it to the bigs, and neither will the Sox.
  7. Kopech has been fine, and Lynn has pitched twice since the injury. I'm not concerned about either of them. Giolito looks terrible, though.
  8. Let him wear it, and save the bullpen. He needs to get his shit together. Maybe this will motivate him.
  9. "Worst pitcher in baseball" "Way up there and gone"
  10. The strike 3 call on McGuire in the 12th (that was a ball by 4-5") was baffling. McGuire knew he couldn't make a big deal out of it because they had no other catchers if he got his ass thrown out, but the dugout should have been raising hell. Luckily it didn't matter since Josh came through.
  11. These sons of bitches kept me up last night. I think I turned my iPad off three times but kept turning it back on to watch our guys bat. Glad I did that last time. Cease was absolutely filthy and made a very good offensive lineup look silly. Robert with the big hit to tie the game...with two outs on the ninth. Vinny Vela really stepped up and kept the team in it, ultimately allowing the offense to win. And how about Harrison? He's leaving everything on the field. He's a different player lately. I don't doubt he knows he could be DFA'd at any time. Question is, with as hard as he's playing, is he going to wear himself out and go back to what he was earlier in the season? This is a different offense than we saw for the first two months of the season. This team does not win last night's game a month ago. They lose 4-2, maybe 4-3. As frustrated I have been about this team, that's how excited I am now. The attitude, the swagger, the winning mentality...it's back.

    Injuries

The move today SHOULD be Anderson returning and Harrison being DFA'd. But we'll see.
  13. They only thing they have to fear is fear itself...and their manager. Injuries, lack of a good roster, and TLR will be much more impactful to losing the division than the other teams.
  14. There's no doubt the consistent lineup is helping. I would assume TLR was told to knock off his daily Sunday lineups.
  15. Good to see Cease gut out five innings without his best stuff. Lambert did a really nice job covering two innings. Nice to see Kelly back; he has nasty stuff. Pollock is finally looking like the Pollock we thought we were getting. He's locked in right now and is thriving in the leadoff spot. Vaughn with four hits is awesome to see. McGuire is doing a nice job as the primary catcher while Grandal is out. And we can't say enough about Danny Mendick. He is doing an outstanding job filling in for TA. Another nice win against a bad team. But that's what we need to do: Beat the crap out of the bad teams. Let's sweep their asses today.
  16. He'll be a perennial .280+ hitter with OBP in the mid to upper .300s. His power will increase as he gets more and more familiar with how pitchers will handle him. I wouldn't doubt 30+ HRs yearly. It will be interesting to see how the Sox handle what position(s) he plays. I would imagine he is the 1B of the future, but you never know. So, I could see his ceiling being Goldschmidt/Konerko.
  17. The chants may stop, but I'd bet if you asked any well-informed fan they'd tell you TLR has to go. He's not going to lead this team on a winning streak. Abreu, Lynn, Giolito, TA, Hendriks, etc. will. But his poor decision-making can lead this team on a losing streak.
  18. I think my favorite style of pizza is the true Chicago style - thin crust, tavern style. But I really like the Detroit style with the thicker crust and caramelized edges. If I'm in the mood for that, I could demolish a whole pie...and lapse into a pizza coma. When I lived in Baltimore, there was a pizza joint in Fells Point that stayed open after all the bars closed. They sold the New York style thin, floppy slices as big as your head for like $2. After a night of drinking, nothing tasted so good. Back to the game, Lynn's performance overall wasn't bad. If you just look at the stats, you'd be satisfied with it considering it's his first game back from surgery and the IL. It just looked uglier watching it, manly due to the first inning. His blowup at McEwing seemed to energize him and the team. Glad to have the big bastard back. Abreu continues to own Detroit, and that's good to see. Mendick, McGuire, and Leury all had nice games. And the bullpen, against a bad offensive team, did what they needed to do. We'll take the win, and two more against this team would be great.
  19. If you just look at Lynn’s stats, you’d be okay with that for his first game back. Watching it though looked worse.
