To hell with the Dos Equis guy...Gordon Beckham is THE most interesting man alive.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 5, 2009 -> 05:39 AM) Wait, who is this Beckham guy? I thought he was a soccer player? Gordon Beckham has issued a court order to have "the other Beckham" change his name. He was stated as saying, "There's room for only one Beckham in sports, and that ain't a soccer player."
-
He is talking about Carl Crawford, right? Not Frank Crawford or Gary Crawford or Cricket Crawford?

QUOTE (Nokona @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 03:56 PM) I think Chicago will be renamed Beckham, IL. At a minimum, the area around USCF will be known as Beckhamville.

Good stuff. -
QUOTE (Pumpkin Escobar @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 02:16 PM) I like him tossing 84 mph heaters up there. We dubbed him "The Doc" for those of you who have seen Major league 3. "you want me to stick with the offspeed stuff?" "You have anything else?" "Nope" I went to see Major League 3 in the theater. I was the only person in there. Felt like a tool.

QUOTE (Special K @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 02:06 PM) By the way, if you guys haven't realized, whoever started this forum is just trying to make a mockery of this site. It's clearly somebody who made up the screen name and is trying to rip on the "Beckham mania" by messing with you guys... Stop biting on it. Chances are it's one of us current users who created a new screen name to start this now-classic thread.
-
And I don't think anyone pointed out that Beckham is spelled wrong in the user name.

QUOTE (Beckam4thehall @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 12:26 PM) Are you guys even sox fans ? Wtf. do you watch the sox play. have you been to a sox game. are you blind ? do you not watch him get the job done ? i bet you people don't even play sports. Try doing what he does. Being a life time short stop then moving over to third and playing it better than fields right now and in a year or two maybe as good as crede. Go f*cking play the game of baseball. Learn how to play the game and please go watch a week of sox games. You know...throw in some more bad English, toss in some "this kid"s, and this could be a rant by Ozzie.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 12:42 PM) Blasphemy!! You just violated God's 11th commandment. Yeah, but I wasn't as good with the ladies.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 12:38 PM) ??? Are we reading the same thread? It's mostly a bunch of humorous over-the-top posts. I know most posts were humorous (and supposed to be), but I sense some real anger.

Lot of anger and hate and yelling and swearing for a topic about one of the best Sox players.

I find it difficult to believe that there are people that never shave the carrot.

QUOTE (False Alarm @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 12:25 PM) i'm also amused by the idea that peavy is "locked into a deal that pays him more than he would receive on the open market today" and "what [we're] paying Peavy could have bought [us] much more value on the open market." what, would peavy get gil meche money if he were a free agent? Peavy would command a big contract on the open market, and would most likely look for a 4+ year deal. Something the Sox do not do.
-
QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 12:20 PM) And it's not even as if he criticized the deal because Peavy may be ineffective for us. That's why he threw in the Carlos Lee comparison. Peavy may be a sub 3.50 ERA pitcher in the American League, lead us to a World Series, but I'm sure his value wouldn't be worthy of the 16/17 million he's due in '10 and '11. The author believes the production of Carter/Russell/Poreda/Richard, for the respective salaries, will exceed that of Jake Peavy. I suppose it's possible, considering you have four players involved on their end, but how the hell can anyone assemble a championship caliber ballclub unless these types of risks are taken? Anyways, when you add in Beckham, Getz, Ramirez, and possibly Flowers and Hudson, there's certaintly enough to offset Peavy's salary. Right. Sure KW gave up some talent, but the Sox still have Beckham, Getz, Flowers, Hudson, and Ramirez. Oh, and now they have a rotation of Buehrle, Danks, Floyd, and Peavy for at least the next two years.
-
Yeah, I don't get it either. Essentially he said that the trade will help the Sox, and is an okay trade for the Padres, but it still is a bad trade. Let me read it again...yeah, I still don't get it.

QUOTE (3 BeWareTheNewSox 5 @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 12:36 AM) What did Boone Logan used to throw here? I was listening to the Braves-Dodgers on ESPN Radio and they said he hit 97 and such (I don't think I remember him throwing that hard here? May help the US Cell gun theory if so), still didn't really help him tho From what I remember, Logan could throw mid 90's, but not as consistently as Thornton does. I don't think he used his fastball as much, either.

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 10:23 AM) What is your lineup the rest of the way? To me its simple, you give Bacon as many at bats as you can. Hit him 2nd! Pods CF Beckham 3B Dye RF Thome DH Konerko 1B Pierzynski C Quentin LF Ramirez SS Getz 2B This is a potent lineup. If Q can come around and be more consistent and get some power back...wow. Having the speedy Getz at the bottom does a lot, too. Look at the speed in the 8,9,1, and 2 spots.
-
I feel better about Beckham in the 2-hole. He has shown that he can bat there well, and has shown great plate discipline. Moving Alexei down adds a threat to the bottom of the order and takes a little pressure off him. Maybe he will thrive a little better there.
