  1. This is not fun to watch. This team is playing like they don’t care.
  2. I'll eat my left shoe if TLR is fired or steps down this season. I don't see it happening, regardless of the rumblings that the clubhouse is in shambles. My guess is we're going to hear, like last year, that everyone loves Tony and what we're hearing about there being issues is BS. That being said, what happened in the 10th inning yesterday is a fireable offense in my mind. Especially considering the horrible lineups, over-use of Leury, and general poor in-game decisions that we're already seeing. No one, not one damn person, looked at the situation with runners on second and third (who got there after a wild pitch), one out, and Buxton at the plate and would have pitched to him. Well, one person did, and he cost us the game. Arguably, he lost the series for the team...hell, lost the road trip. I know the players are adults and need to play better, but when you have someone disconnected from reality steering the ship, it's going to sink. And it's already listing seriously to starboard.
  3. Holy shit terrible throw by Leury, and a phenomenal play by McGuire.
  4. It's like praising a bad employee that the boss somehow loves while all co-workers hate. "Came to work today, drank a cup of coffee, filed a few things."
  5. Well, the good news is that the Sox struck out 21 times yesterday. The OBP should be rising as we speak. In all seriousness, it was a very non-competitive day of baseball. Keuchel looked absolutely terrible once a few mistakes were made behind him. I could easily be convinced that he purposely threw a meatball to Ramirez that led to the grand slam. The defense was as bad as it gets in game 1. Truly little league bullshit. And the offense was...non-existent. The only bright spot was the bullpen for the most part. Banks did exactly what he needed to do and saved the Sox from rolling a position player out to pitch. Lambert actually pitched okay...and was rewarded by being sent down. It's very early in the season, and I think we can all agree we can just erase yesterday. But it was not encouraging at all to see a veteran team that is purportedly championship caliber play like they did yesterday. I doubt TLR will do much to correct the performance, so it's going to be on the guys on the field to get their heads out of their asses right now.
  6. One of the least competitive baseball days by the Sox. Atrocious all around.
  7. I wouldn't be surprised to see him up with the club by the end of the month or the first week of May. He most likely won't go out and throw 5 innings, but being an "opener" or coming out for 2-3 innings of relief would help a lot right now.
  8. Moncada is a much better 3B than 2B, and he's a much better 3B than Burger is. I like Burger, and he's doing great things right now. But he doesn't have a spot at 3B unless Moncada is hurt. I firmly believe he will be trade material.
  9. It just happens to be true for the Sox right now, so it must be true for all of baseball. It's assuming that the majority of balls put into play will be outs, and if the hitters work counts instead of trying to, you know, hit the ball, they COULD end up walking...but will still strike out a lot.
  10. You'd have to expect hitters to end up walking more often because they didn't put more balls in play, therefore having a higher OBP. But to say less strikeouts leads to a lower OBP is assuming a lot. You're essentially saying more strikeouts leads to a higher OBP. A higher OBP results from getting on base more often. That could be from hits or from walks, but to hope that by NOT putting a ball in play you'd have a higher OBP because you might walk is a stretch.
  11. Strikeouts are meaningless outs every time. A groundout or flyout could be a productive out if it moves runners over or even scores a run. So, I'm okay with the Sox are not striking out often.
  12. The family and I (and some friends) go to one game a year. For that one day, I don't worry about buying a couple beers and getting something to eat. I know it's expensive, and I plan accordingly. We still bring in water and some snacks. If I end up going to another game or two with just the wife or one of the kids or with a friend, I might get a beer. That's about it. It's crazy expensive to go to a game. The price of the ticket is the least of the cost, especially if you're sitting in the 500 level. Even going to a minor league or independent baseball game is expensive if you want to eat and drink a few adult beverages. It's nuts to see the park filled on TV and realize that the majority of the fans are buying food, water, pop, beer, etc. I know there are a lot of costs for the team, but they have to be making huge profits on concessions.
  13. I'm pleased with the performance so far, especially considering not having Lynn, Moncada, and Kelly, and missing Giolito and Pollock early. The team has won four games without Lynn and without Giolito for a start. A rotation of Giolito, Lynn, Cease, Kopech, and Keuchel is much better than what we rolled out recently. The bullpen, which has looked good so far, will be even better once Kelly arrives. The offense will improve dramatically with Moncada and Pollock returning. Now if only we can keep Leury out of most games...
  14. That's a good point. He's a nibbler that uses location vs. speed. He was locating pitches well last night, and some of his changes looked great. He got into trouble last year because he was missing his spots...a lot. If we can get last night's Keuchel all year, I'll be more than satisfied.
  15. Keuchel looked good for most of his start. He did seem to hit the patented Dallas Keuchel wall in the 5th, but up to that point he looked better than he did for much of last season. Loved seeing the back-to-back HRs from Tim and Luis. As long as Robert can stay healthy, he's going to be an absolute monster. The bullpen once again looked solid. I'm not worried about Hendriks, but he's got to get past whatever he's doing to give up the big hits on the fastball. This is an exciting team, and that's without some key players. At full strength, this team could be one of the best in the league.
  16. Luis Robert is going to be a real pain for opposing teams this year. Graveman is going to fit in very nicely. McGuire>>>Collins
  17. Baez is going to be loved and hated in Detroit, but they’re going to end up hating that contract.
