  1. *checks calendar* Well, it's 2021, and the Rays have the best record in baseball. The banged up Sox with a patchwork OF and IF beat the aforementioned best team in baseball by playing a complete game led by some outstanding starting pitching.
  2. I think we all suspected this. Sucks, but hopefully he'll heal and be ready for next season. I don't see how they Sox don't go out and fill this spot. Frazier or Escobar would be nice fits.
  3. Got my tickets to the 7/18 game against Houston. So excited to get back to the park.
  4. Mercedes is certainly not as good a hitter as he was early in the season, however, I don't think he's as bad a hitter as he is right now. He's going to need to make some more adjustments and stop getting himself into 2-strike holes. I don't know what a full season of Yermin looks like, but we may not get to see that if he doesn't improve pretty soon. Luckily for him, though, there aren't much in the way of better options right now. It seems like Eaton is playing with a bunch of nagging, prolonged injuries. He seems to hobble around in the field and doesn't seem to have much of a base when he's at the plate. Unlike with Yermin, there are several options for RF that are better than him right now (Goodwin, Lamb, Leury). Leury has been hitting better recently. He's still a decent bench piece that is being over-used due to injuries. Vaughn will be streaky as he continues to learn at the plate. I'm not concerned about him, and he needs to play every day so he can continue to get better.
  5. Moncada is either in his own head or his head is not in the game right now.
  6. I was really surprised when I heard that. Arrieta didn't surprise me, though.
  7. This might be the best Keuchel has looked this season.
  8. The starting pitching has been great. The bullpen has been spotty. Last night was a perfect example of why this team will be in trouble if they lose much more in the way of starting offense.
  9. Looking forward to getting to a game. Between the family and some friends, we'll have a decent sized group, and with limited capacity it was hard to find enough seats even close to each other. Watching the games on TV, the crowds have seemed electric. It'll be nice to experience that in person.
  10. Technically a wheat ale. But it has some decent hops to it. Quite delicious.
  11. How many times would he be pulled over in his Rascal at the old folks' home for "cruising under the influence" before he was let go?
  12. I like the idea. He would most likely be heavily sought after and may be too pricey. Who knows, though. The Pirates have been selling for years, and maybe Reynolds is a guy they'll want to hold on to.
  13. I don't think there's anyone who would be potentially traded that would warrant giving up Madrigal or Kopech. I could see the Sox dealing someone like Crochet, Thompson, Stiever, or Dalquist if a really useful player was available. Right now, a very good outfielder with multiple years of control would be the only piece that fits that scenario. Gallo is probably the big prize that could interest the Sox. With one more year of control, I don't know how much the Sox would/should be willing to give up. He's slot in nicely in RF and has a bat that can change the game (see what I did there?). Giving up less than one of those top four, I could see the Sox looking at Adam Frazier with the Pirates. He's having a nice year and can play anywhere. He's a decent corner outfielder and can play the middle infield. Think Leury but probably a better hitter when getting consistent playing time. Santander is another quiet possibility. He's been solid offensively and defensively and is under control through 2024. With the years of control, though, I see him being sought after by multiple teams and may eventually be too pricey for the Sox.
  14. As a primarily fastball pitcher, he probably has more life left in his arm than other 34 year olds.
  15. I just want to see more of Lynn calling hitters names and generally being the ass that he is. He needs to be extended.
  16. This thread is prime SoxTalk. Starts as a recognition for the closer being named the AL reliever of the month, shifts to conversations about his worth, and quickly descends into electronic b****-slapping.
