  1. I saw that, too, and was wondering why they signed another outfielder. He had a decent 2018. He'll make $900K if he makes it to the MLB roster. I could understand he being a possibility at DH/sub/filler until Vaughn is ready.
  2. Fed up with inaction? Biden hasn't been president for the past four years. Kind of hard to do stuff when he's not an elected official. But, it doesn't matter to morons like this and their followers. They will be screaming impeachment for the next four years.
  3. At a minimum, she needs to be expelled from the House.
  4. I don't like the idea of going into the season with no one in place for DH or the dreaded "DH by committee" approach. The Encarnacion signing backfired last year, but it was the right approach. If Vaughn isn't going to be penciled in as the DH, I think they need to go pick someone up for the role. I like La Stella because he gives the team a lot of flexibility and puts another good bat in the lineup. Honestly, even if they plan on bringing up Vaughn in June and he's ready, I still like adding La Stella.
  5. Certainly looks like Trump will be the first president to be impeached twice. And, if reports are accurate, it's looking more likely that conviction is possible. My prediction is that he'll be impeached, and McConnell will tell Trump he needs to resign or he'll be convicted. Trump will resign early next week, and Pence will be the 46th president...for a day or two. If Trump is convicted, he will not be allowed to run for office again. If he resigns, he could still run again is 2024. I don't think it's likely, and even if he did I don't see the GOP backing him again. He could resign and still maintain his innocence, blathering and blaming all the way.
  6. That would be my concern. He might get some reps at DH, too, but I still don't think he's get enough playing time for development. A veteran signing for someone who can come in and be a serviceable backup now makes the most sense. There are quite a few free agents available. I like the idea of Flowers, Avila, Castro, Molina, Ramos, Chirinos, etc. Most of the top free agents could and should be getting starting jobs. If the Sox do pick up a free agent, I expect someone more like Suzuki, Romine, or Phegley.
  7. *begins refreshing Soxtalk and Twitter obsessively*
  8. I see a lot of comments about this signing being too much money...not so much on here but on Twitter. Colome's salary last season was $10.5MM. Hendriks is going to be paid an average of $13MM a year over the next three years. If the Sox hold on to him for a fourth year, he'll make $15MM. If not, it's $1.5MM a year for 10 years. In my mind, this is not a bad deal at all for probably the best available reliever on the market. To get the best, you have to shell out some dough.
  9. This is a really nice signing. Hendriks is the guy we've heard they've been targeting, and he makes the bullpen one of the best in baseball, especially from the 7th inning on.
  10. Could be a big week. The House will apparently begin impeachment proceedings today if Trump either doesn't resign or Pence doesn't enact the 25th. I don't see either happening, so Trump will most likely become the first president to be impeached twice. I still have my doubts he'll be convicted, but you'd think there would be 18+ republicans who would put the country before Trump. They really have nothing to lose at this point.
  11. Either that or a porno. "I can see that you're not feeling well, ma'am. What you need is a visit from The Ball Doctor." *zipper unzips*
  12. Trump could do something no president has ever done before: Be impeached twice.
  13. Other than the Rate: Wrigley, Progressive Field, Great American Ballpark, Miller Park. Miller Park is nice, but the Great American Ballpark is awesome. Huge concourses, lots of food and beverage choices, and nice views. We had seats about 4 rows from the field just past first base. One of the better times at a baseball game...topped off by a Scott Schebler walk off HR. Progressive Field is okay. Similar to Guarantee Rate Field, really. And Wrigley...well.
  14. Seriously, what do cabinet members and Pence have to lose by invoking the 25th and removing Trump? If they're concerned about being out of the good graces of Trump and his supporters, they don't have their priorities straight.
  15. January 20 cannot get here soon enough. Trump remaining in office for another two weeks is extremely dangerous to this country. Incidents like yesterday will continue to occur. More people will die, more people will get hurt. The 25th amendment is the quickest way to do something, but I will be very surprised if anything happens.
  16. So true. We're already forgetting about the 100+ representatives and senators who signed on to the ridiculous Texas lawsuit. None of them were held accountable. We're already shrugging our shoulders about the reps and senators who continued to object to the certification last night. How long before we remember yesterday as not such a big deal?
  17. I have friends and some family members that have always been conservatives and were Trump supporters, some even posting on social media agreeing with Trump about the election being rigged and stolen. However, I've not heard a peep from them since yesterday. I honestly don't know if I could continue to associate with anyone who still supports Trump after yesterday. There are plenty of good people who are conservative, and there are some of them in Congress. But the Republican party has become the party of Trump, and I don't know how their reputation can be repaired.
  18. The entire Trump presidency has been bad, and history will not look kindly on it. But yesterday was on another level. This will be a day that people will read about 10-15 years down the road and have a hard time believing it happened.
  19. I was listening to this as I was getting ready for work. He's usually loud and brash, but he was REALLY pissed this morning.
  20. A lot more talk last night and this morning on news outlets about the police (or some of them anyway) being involved in the incident yesterday. There's plenty of video evidence of the police either letting the mob in or not trying to stop them. It's frustrating because everyone knew this was coming. The police were either not prepared or the planning was lax on purpose. Now four people are dead and there is a huge black mark in history. On a side note, Morning Joe went on a tirade this morning on MSNBC and dropped the F-bomb, saying that the police just opened the fucking doors for the mob. I'm sure there's a suspension coming, but he's right to be infuriated.
  21. At this point, the only course of action is to end Trump's reign now. Enact the 25th, arrest him, put him a bunker without his phone...something.
  22. Exactly. I don't think we can really be surprised by what is happening. Trump incited this, and he needs to be held responsible.
  23. Probably. The next two years will be critical for the Biden administration to get stuff done. If the GOP is wise, they will need to push Trump out of the picture and start to rebuild some of their reputation. Trump did a lot of damage to the party. If they continue to support his conspiracy theory rantings, they may not be able to regain control of the Senate in 2022.
  24. Most polling and predictions had the Democrats taking control of the Senate and increasing their lead in the House. On general election day, neither happened, and things were looking a bit grim. But winning both Senate seats in Georgia is a massive win for the Democrats. Not only does it give them the majority in the Senate, but the state has effectively flipped blue. I do believe, however, that Trump and his merry band of dunces really hurt their chances in these special elections. The one person at the center of what has happened is Georgia is Stacey Abrams. She has done a remarkable job, and as I saw someone tweet yesterday, Biden should put her in charge of everything: Vaccine rollout, get out the vote, major league baseball...
  25. I see Soxtalk is Soxtalking. Madrigal has played a grand total of 29 games and has had 109 plate appearances at the major league level...and we're writing him off as garbage because he made a few rookie mistakes. He batted .340 in those 109 plate appearances and played a pretty good second base. Maybe we give him a full season before deciding he's trash.
