  1. Good for him. He deserves a longer term deal. It'll be interesting to see how he performs as the primary catcher. Remember we saw two different guys, offensively, in 2019. However, what he does behind the plate for the pitching staff easily makes up for any offensive liabilities. Regardless, the Mets are getting a great catcher and a great guy.
  2. Hell, he could've traded for Snell with Yermin as the headliner. Needs to do a much better job.
  3. Colome has the ability to make every safe situation a nail biter but not give up many runs. He was actually very effective for the Sox, but he made us plenty nervous.
  4. Adding Hendriks would really shore up an already decent bullpen. It will be interesting come spring training to see who ends up making the team to fill out the pen. There are quite a few options, both RH and LH.
  5. Trump stacked the Supreme Court...to get a one sentence denial. That's awesome.
  6. We were worried that the winter meetings would be a non-event based on the fact they were slow last year and they are virtual last year. And, they are pretty slow this year except for the Sox. I expect/hope at least one more move this week.
  7. We don't need no stinking birthday parties. We have the Food Accounts!
  8. We won't know until the season gets underway, but I do feel that he'll have a better year than 2020. If he has a 2019-like season, it's a great addition. If he struggles mightily, it's a cheap add that can be subtracted. If he's an asshole in the clubhouse, Lance Lynn can sit on him.
  9. As a player, I'm okay with this. If he can stay healthy, RF will be well-covered. And at only $7M, it leaves room for BP help and possibly another starter. I think the clubhouse as a whole was a shitshow when he was here last, and although he was a part of that, he's coming to a great clubhouse with respectable leaders.
  10. Proof that fans-all fans-think they should something for nothing, or very little anyway. Texas fans were probably salivating thinking they could get Kopech or Vaughn for Lynn, and Sox fans wanted to ship a B prospect for Lynn.
  11. Still need a right fielder and another BP piece or two. I think at least one of Cease and Kopech break through this year, but I still wouldn't mind one more SP. But I do think that the Sox have to be one of the favorites and certainly a favorite in the AL Central.
  12. So, if I'm catching the drift of the thread correctly, the Sox will barely make the playoffs (if they even do) and will then be swept in the first round for the next few years...because they traded Dane Dunning. I get it, and I do think Dunning will be solid for Texas. But he was one piece, and Lynn drastically improves the rotation.
  13. NSC tweeted last night that Joc is next. I assume he's the outfielder they've been working on signing. NSC and the food accounts grabbed some credibility last night. Let's see what happens...
  14. I like Dunning a lot, but this makes the Sox so much better in 2021. If Katz can help Cease with his control and guide Kopech back to where he was, There are no holes in the rotation. I still think the Sox sign or trade for one more SP, so things will look even better. I understand the dislike of the trade because it's for one year of Lynn. If the Sox can extend him for another year or two on a friendly deal, the trade looks better. What Lynn is getting paid next year is a sweet deal and allows the Sox to spend elsewhere, whether it's for another SP, a bullpen piece, or a RFer. This is what I look at to make me feel even better about this trade: Giolito Lynn Keuchel Cease/Kopech/Lopez/Stiever Add Quintana or Musgrove, and that's a rotation that gives you confidence every start.
  15. He'd probably be better at DH than in the OF...either corner. If Vaughn is indeed being shopped, it would have to be as part of a blockbuster.
  16. What's the biggest concern with Brantley? Defense? Seems to be a good hitter. I gather from other's comments that he wouldn't/couldn't play RF. That creates an issue by having to move Eloy. Question is, how would Eloy be in RF?
  17. A Joc/Engel platoon in RF would be nice. Would also free up money for pitching. Provided the team plans on spending...
  18. I believe there will be a full season with gradual increasing attendance allowances. Hopefully to 100% by August.
  19. Actually start today, but everything is virtual. The Rule 5 draft is on Thursday at the end of the meetings.
  20. Yeah, we're discussing whether it's right or wrong to separate children from their parents and then lock them in cages, to camp outside a secretary of state's home with rifles demanding an election be overturned, to say it's okay for a cop to kneel on the neck of a black person for 9 minutes... Remember when the discussions around politics were about gun control, the death penalty, foreign affairs, reproductive rights, etc.? Because of Trump and the GOP's encouragement of him, it seems their policies are: unless you are an unborn child we don't care about you and if you look different than me I hate and fear you.
  21. I would imagine there still might be some action next week. Even though everything is going to be virtual, team should be exploring trades and FA signings, and next week is the timeframe we see things starting to heat up. It'll be interesting to see what happens.
  22. Blake Snell has huge value, especially with the very friendly contract. I think the cost would be huge, probably too much for the Sox. However, if it take one of Kopech or Vaughn along with some other pieces, it's quite possibly worth doing. Is Tampa not projected to be a contender for the next few years, though? Seems like Snell would be someone they'd want to keep.
  23. Now we know why Frank Menechino said "World Series or bust!" Kidding, but the tweets insinuating that this is the biggest news the Sox will have this off season are either misinterpreted or irresponsible. Hopefully...
  24. I'll agree with that. I think a lot of is is because he was the Cubs announcer, and this was really unexpected. If we're getting this excited about a radio announcer, imagine the excitement when (if) the Sox sign a big FA or swing a major trade that significantly improves the team.
