ZZZZZ Sorry, I fell asleep reading the same thread that gets created every few months. Bad trade. Horrible trade. Shields sucked. Tatis is a future superstar. Blah blah. Let's move on.

Accountability Starts Monday, August 10th, 2020

I'm glad Keuchel called the team out. I wasn't able to watch the game since my power was out, but I saw enough over the last few days to see that this team is flat. No energy and it seems like they just don't care. I hope this lights a fire under their asses. I will agree, though, that Anderson and Madrigal being out has hurt, as they are high energy guys. This team looks so good on paper, and they've been playing like shit for the most part. The leadership, or lack thereof, is certainly a cause. -
I don't know who will be the next manager, and I like some of the suggestions so far in this thread. But, something needs to change with the leadership of this team. I am tired of seeing talent wasted by bad managing/coaching, dumb decisions, and lackluster leadership. It's really amplified this season with so much talent AND a short season. Every win counts and every loss counts.

Lovecraft Country is starting on HBO next week. I'm intrigued. I read the book and liked it, so I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the interpretation. Early reviews are pretty favorable, so that's encouraging. Otherwise, I did a deep search for streaming shows to watch since many shows normally released in the fall will be delayed. Just finished Home Before Dark on Apple+. It was enjoyable, if not particularly deep. Probably going to check out the second season of Homecoming next.

Please, gentlemen, obtain a jolly good win in today's baseball contest.

Madrigal leaves with injured shoulder - separated - out a month

There were a few immediate Twitter posts that said he broke his wrist. I'm glad that this isn't the case. Hopefully he'll only miss a few games and be back. I wouldn't be surprised to see an IL stint, though. -
Maybe this team responds well to being treated like crap. Continue swearing at them!

Foster looked really good last night. I was concerned when Rodon was done after 2, but the pen saved the day again. Jose continues to do Jose things - you know, drive in meaningless RBIs. Robert is just a damn good ball player. And as a side note, anyone who continues to b**** about the season being played should sign off SoxTalk until 2021.
-
I wasn't talking about Aaron Judge. I know he has been hitting home runs like most hitters hit singles. My point was that if a guy like Robert was on the Yankees, he would be getting a lot more attention than he does. Same goes for Eloy and Moncada. It's nice to have a team like this. It's been a long-ass time since we've had a team this exciting. The Sox, and their players, will not get the attention they deserve until they win a World Series. And judging by the fact that ESPN repeatedly forgets that 2005 was a year, they may still not get the attention they deserve.
-
Could you imagine how much coverage guys like Robert, Eloy, and Moncada would be getting if they were on the Yankees, Red Sox, or Dodgers? It's so refreshing to have a team like this.
-
Okay, Nicky.
-
There's a much higher likelihood that the season finishes. The Marlins situation was a wake up call for the league. We'll still see positive tests, but I don't think we'll see another Marlins situation. There are no players, coaches, or owners that want the season to be cancelled. It's in their best interest to abide by the rules to keep everyone healthy.
-
Bullpen did a great job, but they were used heavily. Hopefully they won't need to dip into those resources as often going forward. Last thing we need is to deplete the bullpen because the starters can't go more than 5 innings.
-
Pitching, aside from Colome’s agonizingly slow and sloppy ninth, was excellent. Grandal and Eloy with nice at-bats when needed. And Robert’s 2 RBI single was huge. Nice win.
-
Robert is so much better than I bet many expected. That was a great AB. Didn’t try to do anything crazy. Just hit the ball.
-
Where's Nicky? ?
-
Hopefully there's enough time for him to become awesome. I'm optimistic.
-
Yeah, the 1-4 start in a 60 game season is the equivalent of a 3-13 or 4-12 start in a 162 game season...considering 10% of the season gone. Time for this team to get serious.
-
Moncada, Anderson, Abreu, Robert, Detwiler (shiver), and Keuchel have all looked good. Eloy looked good at the plate and lost in the field, especially after smoking his coconut on the wall.
-
Ozzie influencing the team to not bring back Thome should keep him from ever managing the Sox again. He was right about last night's puke-worthy lineup, but pretty much anyone with an ounce of baseball knowledge would see how bad it was.
-
Horrible lineup for the second game yesterday, and we don't need Ozzie to tell us so. Unfortunately, I don't see any managerial firings during the season. Renteria has proven that he can't put together a quality lineup, even with a 30-man roster. Nicky Delmonico has more at bats than Grandal. Speaking of firing, Cooper needs to do something about the starting pitching. How can four of the five starting pitchers look so bad? They either had no control or just threw BP fastballs.

7/28 Sox/Indians Double Header thread
hogan873 replied to southsider2k5's topic in 2020 Season in Review
I see we're melting down like there's only 57 more games to play and the Sox are near the basement, and the pitching looks terrible. Oh, wait... -
Best case scenario at this point is that the outbreak is contained to the Marlins, and the league begins enforcing the rules already in place and establishes new rules to keep this from happening again. I'm not optimistic that this is the case, though.
-
This seems likely. Anyone watching the games over the weekend saw a lack of masks and/or social distancing. Plus, we don't know what has been going on outside of the game. Are these guys going out and exposing themselves to potentially infected people? If they (and we) want this season to continue, rules need to be followed and maybe new rules need to be instituted.
-
I wouldn't be surprised if several players contracted it while hanging around outside of the stadium or team hotel. It will be interesting to see what is found out.
