  1. I wouldn't be surprised if several players contracted it while hanging around outside of the stadium or team hotel. It will be interesting to see what is found out.
  2. Ferfucksake, let's ignore 2019 and state that Giolito is not an even close to being an ace because of one bad game. Knock it off.
  3. Kind of hard to frame pitches that miss the zone by a foot or more. This is not on Grandal.
  4. I'm going to pick up a 12-pack of Goose Island Sox Ale for the game. Then I'm going to commandeer the largest TV in the house and declare that only those who will actually watch the game will be allowed to enter.
  5. I would argue that having a good season is more important now, especially for teams that would be expected to win 28-32 games. There's going to be a glut of teams around .500, and an extra win or two could be the difference between being in second place and third place in the division.
  6. ...and the bartender said, "You are out of here!" *cue laugh track*
  7. With the expanded playoffs, I'd say 31 gets you in. Hell, 29 or 30 might depending on how each division shakes out.
  8. I'm in the minority, I think. I love the idea of expanded playoffs. Even after this year, I'd like to see it. What would make it even better are some rules around tanking. If every team was somewhat competitive, we wouldn't be seeing teams essentially eliminated in June. It's a big ask and would require salary caps for minimum and maximum. Selfishly, though, I like the idea because it increases the chances of the Sox to make the playoffs. The AL Central will be a tough division for a few years, and I'd hate to see the Sox finish with 90+ wins (in future seasons) and miss the playoffs.
  9. It certainly should be for Sox fans. This is a team that should compete in a 162 game season and should be playoff bound in the 60 game season with expanded playoffs. Every game, however, will be critical. There will be plenty of excitement, cheering, swearing, and beer-drinking over the next two plus months.
  10. HollywoodTim hates Madrigal as much as Ron hates Abreu. This shortened season is the perfect time to get Madrigal the ABs he needs to get used to MLB pitching. I imagine that he will start at Schaumburg before making his way to Chicago, but I wish he would break camp with the Sox. I wouldn't be surprised to see Leury as the starting RF with Mazara on the IL. That would mean someone else starts at 2B. Wish it would be Madrigal, but I expect it to be Mendick. When the team gets down to 26 players, I expect and hope Madrigal to be on the team and playing 2B every day.
  11. I like Jason, and I think he and Stone together are good. They do get sidetracked at times when Jason tries to be funny (and actually is), but Stone doesn't seem to either get it or care to get it. However, I do enjoy listening to them. Jason doesn't have the calls like Hawk did (HR call, "he gone", "gas!", etc.), but he may develop those over time.
  12. Not really surprising. Some of the umpires are older and some probably have some health conditions, too. One of the highest risk ones (Joe West) is rolling the dice, though.
  13. First of all, it's not Wuhan Flu, it's COVID-19. Secondly, 130,000+ people did not die from a hoax. This virus is very real, and it can be very dangerous to some folks. The worst thing about the virus is that it is a novel coronavirus, which means we don't know much about it. We're learning every day about it, and the actual experts (CDC, Dr. Fauci, countless doctors and scientists) are doing their best to pass on their learnings to the public. It just sucks that we have people in charge who refuse to believe and will go so far as to muzzle the experts. I personally know several people who have had COVID, and most experienced mild symptoms (like a bad flu). One guy, though, was hospitalized and was out of work for a month. He was healthy and didn't have any underlying conditions. Not a hoax. It's real, and it's getting worse because people aren't taking it seriously.
  14. The next four Sox intrasquad games are being aired. Today @ 1:10 - MyTeams App Tuesday @ 10:10 AM - MyTeams App Wednesday @ 7:00 PM - NBC Sports Chicago Thursday @ 7:00 PM - NBC Sports Chicago
  15. Tornadoes and hurricanes could also be eliminated if we got rid of all radars. It blows my mind that he (and others) believe that if we don't test there won't be more cases. True we won't have confirmed cases, we'll just have some mystery disease making lots of people sick.
  16. Has anyone checked in on hi8is to see if he fell down and smacked his melon on something?
  17. Regardless of who on the Sox tested positive, the good news is that they are asymptomatic. That means, hopefully, they will be able to return quicker. There is some concern about the asymptomatic positive tests, though. After reading reports from other teams, it seems as if there are more players who are asymptomatic than not. This is why testing will be very important in addition to the other health protocols in place. Makes me wonder how many people out in the general public are carrying the disease but are showing no symptoms. Wearing a mask and social distancing seems like a no-brainer.
  18. That would be pretty cool. But I doubt any name change is coming any time soon. It's got to be quite the undertaking.
