If the proposal was just sent to the players, there obviously isn't an agreement yet. But, this definitely the most optimistic news since...well, since play was halted back in March. Hopefully owners and the MLBPA can keep their traps shut until there is an agreement.
-
But with this coming after Manfred and the MLBPA union chief met, I would think it will be agreed upon.
-
Finally.
-
Late winter/early spring 2021. I'm going to be optimistic that one or several of the vaccines will be moderately effective and available by early 2021.
-
There's plenty of blame. No one is to blame for the virus, but the owners, players, and Manfred have handled getting back on the field very poorly. And their bickering has been public since it started. The most important thing they should be concerned about is the health and safety of the players and staff. Everything else should be secondary. It's all important, but they look like a bunch of buffoons while other sports leagues are setting dates for returning and moving forward. As I saw in an article yesterday, MLB has run out of feet to shoot itself in and has moved on to vital organs.
-
Both sides are now standing in their respective corners with their arms crossed angrily while threatening to hold their breath if they don't get their way. And Manfred is cowering in his own corner because everybody's mad. What a disgrace all around.

No, I agree. Phase 4 is the last phase before a vaccine or otherwise herd immunity. I can understand having challenging goals in order to get there. I wonder, though, if a region with very low positivity shows a slight increase but the rate is still very low if it would still be permitted to move forward. There would have to be some sort of consideration around that.
-
According to the state's website on COVID, all regions are currently meeting the requirements for Phase 4. All metrics beside Percent Positivity Change Last 14 Days are well into the green for Phase 4. The 14-day metric is still green, but a few days of spikes could push it back. Since we haven't seen a big spike yet from the protests, I'm still feeling pretty good about getting to Phase 4 by the end of the month.

The best tests. No one knows more about testing. There would also be a lot fewer DUIs if police didn't give sobriety tests.
-
Shows that the state's plans are working. There were plenty of people who complained, said the governor was out of his mind. Hell, there are still people complaining, not bothering to recognize the results. We're on pace to go to phase 4 in about two weeks. Restaurants and movie theaters can open, schools will be able to open to in-person learning. Two months ago, being here seemed impossible. Gee, imagine if we had a national response similar to the way Illinois and New York responded.

Where's the eye-roll emoji when you need it?
-
They are supposed to decide to either make one more offer or just let Manfred institute the shortened season. I would hazard to guess that a shortened season of about 52-55 games will be implemented.
-
Then I would have him in there in place of Gonzalez or Lopez.
-
Giolito Keuchel Lopez Cease Gonzalez I'm torn, though. I'd love to see Kopech in there. If he's definitely ready to start and go 5-6 innings, maybe he's there instead of Gonzalez. But don't we finally want to see Gonzalez actually pitch for the Sox?
-
MLB has the opportunity to be the first to return, though. Well, at least they HAD the opportunity. It's slipping away by the day.
-
Yeah, that's a no-brainer. No sense to cancel a season and lose on development of some of the younger players (especially with the Sox). 50 games would kind of suck, but no games would really suck.
-
There will most likely be a season, but it's looking more and more like it's going to be the mandated short season at full pro-rated salaries. A 50-60 game season is better than no baseball, but it's not nearly enough games. Plus, the already strained relations between the owners and players could be worsened, and that doesn't bode well for the CBA expiring and subsequent new agreement. Both sides need to give a little here and come to an agreement on an 80-game season that'll start in early July. If nothing happens this week, I think we'll see MLB step in and mandate a short season.
-
I've said this before, most fans won't care which side was right, who was getting screwed more, how much money each side was losing. If the season is cancelled over money, both sides will get blamed, and rightfully so. Right now, it seems as if they are not even considering the fans.
-
What blows my mind is the violence by some police still going on when they have to know everything is being videotaped. Do they feel invincible? Are they not concerned about the consequences? And why aren't the good cops (there are more of them than the bad ones) speaking out?
-
Yeah, but I hate the idea of no baseball more. Let's hope they end up agreeing on 70-80 games.
-
Doesn't help that Tom Ricketts look suspiciously like Ted Cruz.
-
Both sides know they have way too much to lose to cancel the season over money. They'll both give some, there will be baseball, and one side will be more pissed than the other.
-
Getting closer. I could see them setting on a 70ish game season. At this point, I'd be happy with a 60 game season. It'll be a looong summer otherwise.
-
Yeah, I believe an agreement will be made this week. Both offers from each side seem miles apart, but the good news is that they're both making offers. I believe your analysis is probably spot on. We certainly could use some good news right about now.
-
This, hopefully, is one reason why they will come to an agreement. Regardless of who is more to blame (owners), there are essential workers who have been working their asses off for a couple months making pennies compared to baseball salaries who will have no compassion for whiny billionaires and millionaires. We're all dealing with a lot of shit right now, and we'd love to see baseball to help us get through this. But it they want to cancel the season over money, it will definitely leave a bad taste.
