  1. Very cool idea. I wonder how tickets will be sold. With only 8000 available, it would make sense for at least a portion of them to be sold via lottery giving people a chance to buy them.
  2. Advanced stats are MUCH more important to front office folks than TV announcers. And that's really the way it should be. Whether announcers are talking about a hitter or a pitcher, they're going to talk about the information that appeals to their audience. As far as ERA, I think it's still a very good indicator of a pitcher's performance; especially starting pitchers. I hear Stone say often that ERA doesn't matter as much for closers. I'm not sure I 100% agree with that, but I can understand it. For a starter who may throw 180-210 innings in a season, a low ERA is a true indicator that they are a good pitcher. Wins and losses are too often controlled by bad defense and/or no offensive support.
  3. With Robert up and Kopech back, that's two holes filled. Madrigal could very well be up next year, and that would be a third filled. They would still need to add at least one more starter, hopefully a difference maker, and a right fielder/DH. They could and certainly should be ready to compete in 2020, but a few moves would be needed to make it more likely.

  5. For starting pitchers, ERA is a more indicative stat than W/L. All of the winners you listed had low (even very low) ERAs to go along with their nice W/L records. I don't agree that wins and losses are the most important stat for decision makers. GMs and other front office folks are smart enough to look at at everything about a pitcher. To say that they care about wins and losses primarily is a great exaggeration.
  6. This is such a terrible take it has to be trolling. Announcers are not going to talk about the impact a home run has on the player's WAR or wRC+. The advanced stats are for looking at a player's value based on history and potential future impact. As many on this board have said to you many times, advanced stats do mean something, especially to the decision makers. Just because they don't make sense to you doesn't mean they don't mean anything.
  7. Jose goes on a run hitting well...crickets. Jose struggles...I told you he sucks! He's in a slump. He'll rebound...then probably slump again...then rebound. He does the same thing almost every year.
  8. Yeah, I was being sarcastic. The Jones trade, however, may likely be the only Sox move today.
  9. Yeah, I don't know if either one would clear waivers. Aguilar has had a nice July after a rough start, and Faria has plenty of upside.
  10. Well, Nate Jones was traded so... I agree, though. I don't expect anything. Which is fine if they're not getting the asking price for who's "available".
  11. He'd be under team control for 3 more years than Leury, too.
  12. Is he a better option than Yolmer at second? He would at least provide more flexibility by being able to play the OF, too.
  13. He got himself in trouble early with the walks, and you could almost sense the grand slam coming. But, as others have mentioned, he's very calm and collected out there. Afterwards, he came out and pitched much better. He's got great stuff and a very good demeanor on the mound. The rest will come over time, but he needs to keep doing it at the ML level.
  14. Why make up shit like this? I mean, I sort of got it when people were claiming to have seen Machado on a plane or at the Bears game, but we're talking about Zack Collins.
  15. Yeah, it's frustrating. He's having a very good year, and compared to last year he's having an amazing season. Part of the lack of recognition is the jersey he wears.
  16. Greg's emotional rants aside, I'm still in the school of thought that Jose is more valuable than he's given credit for. And that's both on and off the field. He's certainly more valuable to remain a Sox player vs. being traded now. There's not huge demand for power hitting 1B/DH guys with 1/2 year control. I don't see the Sox getting much for him if they were tempted to trade him. The real question will be whether he is a White Sox after this season. I believe he will be, and a 2 year deal at $12M per or so seems reasonable.
  17. I don't watch much Cubs baseball, but in the games I have seen Schwarber looks pretty bad out there. Eloy, to me, looks more like he gets bad reads and doesn't move quickly enough to get to fly balls. Schwarber hustles after getting bad reads and then dives/falls short of fly balls. So, I think Schwarber may look worse, but neither are very good. Hopefully Eloy can improve a bit and actually be serviceable out there.
  18. I’ll be there. Hopefully will witness in person the Sox getting to .500!
  19. Wish I could watch the game. That curve is disgusting.
  20. Announcers usually only talk about traditional stats because most viewers are only interested in the traditional stats. I'm not saying most viewers don't appreciate the advanced stats...some do. But when you're watching a game, you're concerned about BA, HRs, RBIs, OBP...that's about it. Benetti and Stone have talked advanced stats on occasion, and Jason usually takes the time to explain what the particular stat means. WAR, wOBA, wRC+ - These stats don't win one game. A home run or an RBI wins one game. And a guy who is hitting a bunch of home runs and driving in a bunch of runs gets a lot of attention because chances are he's won a game or two. The traditional stats are what fans look at when voting for all stars. Traditional stats are what most of us look at when seeing how well a player is doing. The advanced stats are what baseball insiders and the front office folks look at when analyzing how valuable a player is and what value they could add to a team. All that being said, I still think Abreu is more valuable than he's given credit for. I'm not saying he's a guy you ignore advanced stats about, but he's definitely a guy that you can't ignore the traditional stats. He's a decent hitter with a ton of power, and he's having a good season in that regard. He's a good DH candidate going forward and a good bridge to Vaughn.
  21. Next year, the original post said. I agree that Colome would be nice to have next year as they should be competing for the division/wildcard. It all depends on what they could get in a trade. If the return isn't great, you hold on to him.
  22. Colome's value has gone up since he was traded to the Sox. He's proven to be a very effective closer, and he has performed well in high pressure situations. You can't look at what a player was traded for and say "that's his value now." Look at the, ahem, Shields/Tatis trade. I'm not saying Colome is going to net a superstar. But if a contending team is in dire need for a very effective late inning right-hander, they'll pay for Colome. Keep in mind, too, that he's under control through 2020. That'll help his value to an extent. He'll still be likely to make decent money next year...and that might hurt his value a bit. My point is, he should net a player better than Narvaez. If not, you hold on to him.
  23. Excited to see him pitch. As luck would have it, I bought tickets to Thursday's game a while back. But, hey, I get to watch Nova pitch live.
  24. Any credibility you had regarding your analysis of Jose is gone with this post. Did he kick your dog or something?
