QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 6, 2015 -> 01:16 AM) Is there any other type of politician, lol? Yeah, the crazy ones. They are the most entertaining. The middle-of-the-road ones are usually the most corrupt. -

5/5 Tigers at White Sox

I love this team. -
I wouldn't say this team has tons of pitching up and down the system. They do have some intriguing guys though. Guys like Danish, Guerrero, Fry, Martinez, Rodon, Wheeler certainly have upside. I'd much rather they draft and develop pitchers and trade for young hitters,
-
I don't believe either. Its not the record or the losses that bother me. Its the fact that they are losing in a very similar fashion to the way they lost the previous two seasons. Its one thing to be sloppy for a stretch, its another to be sloppy for 2+ seasons.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 4, 2015 -> 03:53 PM) This guy gave the White Sox an 8% chance to begin with and now feels the need to pat himself on the back. There is no question the team has been terrible, but as I pointed out yesterday, during the course of a 6 month season, stretches where you lose like this happens to just about everyone. And I would guess if you looked at numbers during these stretches, players numbers are generally awful. I looked and Detroit and KC last year, the 2 teams that made the playoffs. Detroit had a 7-17 stretch, KC had a 9-17 stretch. The 2005 White Sox had a 5-12 stretch and a 7-12 stretch. If the team truly is as bad as they are playing, they have no chance anyway. But to think a team that hasn't homered in almost 2 weeks and has 1 starter with an ERA below 5.00 is what it is, well, I don't agree. Its the way they are bad. Terrible situational hitting, terrible fundamentals, terrible base running, awful defense, awful at-bats, questionable decisions by the manager. it would be considered a fluke if we hadn't seen it before. Fact of the matter is that aside from the bullpen, this is the exact same way this team has been losing since 2013. That's systemic.

QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ May 4, 2015 -> 03:30 PM) If we're having this discussion at the end of May then it would make sense to me. Yeah, we suck right now but again: it's been a month. April at that. The 2005 Sox were picked to finish fourth; granted, they came out blazing and never looked back (until September) but people were excited about this team for a reason, including the players themselves. I'm not giving up on them just yet. People were excited about 2011 as well. People can be dummies.

Jared Mitchell released, Tyler Colvin signed

QUOTE (LDF @ May 4, 2015 -> 04:16 PM) well you do make an excellent point. however i am seeing an improvement in the hitting, is it b/c the hitting philosophy is coming from the sox hitting coach in the majors??? i think it is.. but it is going to be a long time to see the change. I've seen guys get by and hit well in the minors before. I;d really like to see these guys come up to the big leagues, have a solid approach, and learn how to adjust. I NEVER see that from guys coming up in this system. I hope its changing, but us as fans, shouldn't really believe otherwise until it happens. -

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 4, 2015 -> 03:20 AM) Yes. I actually much prefer the high ceiling high bust rate shots the are taking in recent drafts. I do however have concerns about player development in the hitting side in recent years. This is what it comes down to for me. At the end of the day, regardless of who you bring in as a manager or a general manager, regardless of who you draft or sign internationally, you have to have confidence that you can develop players. I have no confidence that this organization can develop a position player. There is no evidence that they can. So how can I get excited about anything? -
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ May 3, 2015 -> 09:48 PM) I don't know if Reinsdorf cares about winning or not. All I know is that he doesn't win. If the Sox do not make the postseason again this year, that will mark 30 of the 35 seasons during which Reinsdorf has owned the team that they haven't made it to the playoffs, and with it no semblance of a winning culture built whatsoever. The futility has been sickening. For me, it's going to take far more than just replacing Ventura to turn this thing around. All we'd likely get as a replacement is another guy Reinsdorf either loves or is loyal to. That seems to be a higher priority than hiring the best baseball man for the job. No, what this organization so desperately needs is new ownership and a completely new and fresh vision from the top. Otherwise, it's just going to continue to be more of the same of what we've seen the past three and a half decades from the current ownership and management team - losing. I like this post. The problems run much deeper than RV. He's just a symptom at the surface. This team hasn't developed a position player since Joe Crede. How is that possible? How is that accepted?

thats fitting

This was the only way I thought Robin could be fired after today's game. I've never actually seen anything like this. They've actually quit in April.
-
Bye Robin. I'll always love you as a player, and I wont hold this against you after this is over, but its time to go. You and your staff haven't been able to cut it.
-
QUOTE (Mike F. @ May 3, 2015 -> 07:03 PM) If Ventura doesn't get fired after this season, something is seriously wrong. Season? Try evening.

QUOTE (Mike F. @ May 3, 2015 -> 06:48 PM) Maybe Avi, Melky, or Flowers. No one else will even come close. I think Flowers' AB's will dwindle a bit with Soto, but yes, barring injury he has a CHANCE. Avi has a lot of work to do if he's going to get to 12 HR's. I'd like to think Melky could, but at this point last year, he had 4 HR's. He has 0 this year. His season looks more like 2013 than 2014.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 3, 2015 -> 06:43 PM) Power will come. I'm already figuring Abreu for 30 HR's and LaRoche for 25. Where else in this lineup could do you see 12+ HR's?
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 3, 2015 -> 06:37 PM) Yeah, only 140 games left after today. It is over. You're right but this team as constructed has black holes at Catcher and 3B. That wont change. As it is now, they have liabilities at SS and CF. That could change. This team also has liabilities on 3/5ths of the rotation. More than likely, the best they will be able to do is have liabilities at only 2/5th of the rotation. Add in the fact that there is little chance of developing any power within this lineup and I don't see where this team can make the improvements needed to become a consistent winner. Enlighten me if you do.

QUOTE (Mike F. @ May 3, 2015 -> 06:35 PM) I wouldn't mind tanking to get a high pick at this point. It's obvious that they won't be contenders this year. More than getting a high pick, I'm talking about mega changes within the organizational structure. Obviously, I'm aware that Reinsdorf is unlikely to do anything of the such, but isn't there more of a chance as opposed to the team rebounding to finish 81-81? Lets face it, we all know this team isn't on the level of a true contender. Way too many holes and flaws up and down the roster.
-
This is sorta getting funny. Is it wrong to root for rock bottom if you believe it could achieve a greater good for the franchise?

Why should Robin Ventura have a MLB manager job

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 3, 2015 -> 02:13 AM) Gardenhire seems to be the flavor of the month since fathom started saying it. What ever happened to Dave Martinez ? Everybody was hot for him at one time when he was Maddons bench coach. If you're intent on bringing someone in mid-season to salvage 2015, you bring in someone with previous managerial experience. -
Entire Coaching staff needs to go. That includes Coop. Buddy Bell also needs to go. Entire minor league staff needs to go. You cant go over a decade without developing a position player and expect to keep your job. This is like clown college.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 2, 2015 -> 10:45 PM) Maybe he will retire after this year? Yeah right. Just like Dunn.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 2, 2015 -> 10:44 PM) I agree. I think he gave it a shot because like he said he values his family and he didn't want to uproot them. if he doesn't have final say he should move on he's a bright young mind well under 50. He could be a GM before then easily even if he falls on his face in Chicago. And, future employers will def be curious about what exactly his role was relative to KW in Chicago. This organization is so f***ed. I just wish KW would finally leave so that we can begin to understand the hierarchy once and for all. The fact of the matter is that I'm staring at a last place team who disrespects the game with its play. Everyone involved bears responsibility. I'm not letting Hahn off the hook just because we all know KW is a moron.
