  1. How many do I get with Mlb.tv. This is my first year with MLB.tv. I've always had Extra Innings. 70 bucks cheaper and now I get HD. Hopefully we're competitive for awhile so that I don't try to kill myself while I try to watch.
  2. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Feb 11, 2014 -> 10:35 PM) My predictions: Avisail will end up looking like the best/most complete position player. Abreu will look elite at times, end with decent numbers for a slugger, but overall will impress. The contract won't look out of sight. Davidson will not break with the team, will K a lot when he gets here, and will end 2014 almost as much of an uncertainty as he is now. But still part of the picture. Eaton will impress when he's on the field. He'll hit the DL at least once and will constantly battle little injuries. Johnson will hit a wall mid-season but finish strong. Will look like a 3/4 in 2015. Gillaspie if he gets playing time will continue to improve. I think we might get some big things out of Viciedo this year. Adam Dunn will continue to suck my ass. Q will be awesome. I think you hit the nail very much on the head.
  3. I know we don't have that many choices, but I just do t think its ideal for Avi to have him starting the season in the 3 hole. That's a lot of pressure on a very young kid. Ideally, you'd like to have him in the 5 hole. Unfortunately, we just don't have many other options. We could put Abreu in the 3-hole, but he's also going to need time to adjust to the league. I still think by mid season that we're going to have a strong 3-4-5 in Abreu-Dunn-Avi
  4. I don't have a problem with it. We are rebuilding the roster. It's going to be on Robin and his staff to help shape and gel this new, young core together. There are expectations for this team to improve this season and get back to playing fundamental baseball. If the staff can;t make that happen, it's on them, but I'm not going to judge Robin on the aging, flawed roster he inherited.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 24, 2014 -> 03:56 PM) Keep in mind that in terms of how the system is ranked...the latin american spending, Adolfo, and so on, won't really have a chance to make much of a positive impact for probably 3-4 years. Those guys are being signed at 16 and 17, they're years away from making a dent in the national level lists. No, I understand that, my point is basically that they are starting to throw more darts at the board and as each passing year goes by, the odds of hitting on a couple of them increase. I'm not speaking about their actual chances for ML success, instead I am speaking about their perception in the scouting world. If your system looks good, it gives you the opportunity to close the deal on a trade when someone like Miggy is available. It seems likely that they will keep Adolfo in the US, considering his ability to speak English helping to ease the cultural shock. Him being in the US should enable him to be considered among our prospects, especially if he plays in rookie ball at some point. By next season, guys like E. Johnson and Abreu will be off the list (and possibly Davidson), but at the same time we will be bringing in the #3 and #43 picks in the draft, not to mention we now have the opportunity to see guys like Danish, Hawkins, Semien, Bassitt, Olacio, Engel, Michalczewski, Adolfo, Ravelo, Barnum, Sanchez, Montas, May, Micah, Beck, etc. have good years in the minors and improve their stock within the system. The difference in the up-side of our prospects now, from a year ago is night and day. We didn;t even mention guys like Trayce and a healthy Keenyn, who still have a shot to turn it around.
  6. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 24, 2014 -> 02:31 PM) Sometimes they don't start playing right away, he was barely 16 when signed, which means he turned 17 during the 2013 season. 16 year olds rarely play DSL, they are more typically put in "camp". I'd be surprised if he failed to play in 2014 though, in his 17/18 season. I think this is something being undervalued by the fans about our farm system. At this point next year, we have the opportunity to take major steps forward in how our system is evaluated. Having the 3rd pick in the draft, Adolfo's professional career beginning, another summer of increased Latin America spending, where we should conceivably be able to sign 2 highly ranked kids, plus another year of pro ball for the guys we signed when Paddy was hired. There is a burgeoning possibility that our system could be considered middle of the pack by this point next season. We're starting to throw a lot of stuff at the wall, increasing our chances that we'll be able to get some of it to stick.
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 24, 2014 -> 03:07 PM) Most have played some DSL ball, none have put up numbers that stand out, except maybe Rodriguez. Rodriguez also played briefly at Bristol, didn't do so well. They are all still very young and raw, and it is too early to say how they are doing. There may be a better read in some scouting reports, but those reports from the DSL are hard to come by. A couple of us ranked Ortiz in the T25, some did not. Walker is an impressive athlete with serious speed, but there's no power there, and he couldn't hit for average either last year. He strikes out a ton. There is potential there, but he needs to hit for a high average to be successful. Hopefully he does in 2014 - he is still somewhat raw and fought through some injuries last year. Were you surprised at all that Castillo did not play in the DSL last season? it seemed he was their biggest signing in 2012.
  8. Does anyone know anything about the development of guys like Antonio Rodriguez, Victor Done, Luis Castillo, Johan Cruz, Hanleth Otano, etc. Are they coming to the States this season?
  9. Howie seems like a guy we could move in the off-season or at the '15 deadline for a prospect.
  10. QUOTE (dayan024 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 06:08 PM) Nick Piecoro ‏@nickpiecoro 30s As @SteveGilbertMLB said, Dbacks would get two prospects in this proposed trade. I'm told one from Angels, one from White Sox. I really don't get this. I think giving up a young lefty with good stuff is just enough to get yourself a young leadoff hitter without a track record in the majors, but promising minor league numbers. Why should we include a prospect?
  11. I like the move as long as it's contingent upon trading away Kep. Also like the move to get Eaton. Getting on base should be the primary focus this off-season. If he can get on at a good clip ahead of Avi and Abreu, I'd feel a little better about our offense.
  12. QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 05:58 PM) Its 2 years..... It's not something you need. You are supposed to be going younger. You already have a veteran at 3B with Kep for another 2 years. Just seems contradictory to everything else you are hearing. Unless they are confident they can move Kep or Beckham, it's odd.
  13. Love Juano, just don't understand the fit. We made one mistake with Kep, why compound it with another 2 years of Juano?
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 05:27 PM) If he trades him over the winter instead of just letting him go, the Sox will have paid $4 million for the prospect or prospects they receive. I hope they actually have a shot of being successful in the big leagues. It doesn't seem as if management is all that concerned over that aspect of it or they would have given him away already.
  15. Not all that worried about. Hahn will surely shop him over the winter. The odds of Rios being here in April 2014 seem slim.
  16. Don't believe Hahn for a second, yet, for some reason I'm still pessimistic that we make another move.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 03:30 AM) Teahen? That is your comp? That is just awful. Did you read it? I never compared the two players. I compared the situations upon which they ended up here
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 03:24 AM) Detroit getting beaten like a red headed stepchild in this deal Maybe, or maybe Detroit is just very confident that Garcia will never develop any power. If so, there isn't much value in it for us. To me, this smells of a KW deal. A guy who seemed to tear us apart last year (I.e. Teahen), who we then become infatuated with. If he develops power, it's a greAt deal, if not, and his discipline doesn't improve, he will be of very little use to us. I'm afraid that Detroit knows their player a lot better than we do. Hope it isn't the case though
  19. Good progress for the Sox in L.A. regardless of how Zapata pans out. Does anyone know if we are in on anyone else of worthy note with our remaining pool money?
  20. It's not Robin's fault, although I wish he would harder on guys making these mental mistakes. The fact of the matter is why would Robin want to be here through a rebuild that could take 5 years before we are competitive again. The way I envision it, Robin will leave, we will bring in a manager to get us through the rebuild, then we will have another manager come in to manage when the talent is in place and mature.
  21. Please Please Please Ventura come out and start pulling guys off the field!!!!!
  22. Until Ventura grows a pair and starts embarrassing these guys, I don't see it changing. This isn't a hiccup, it's an epidemic.
