  1. I never said the Sox didn't look to make those moves or they didn't, they might have considered one of them or all of them. But I have a hard time believing, with KW's agressive nature, that he struck out with everyone else and Hermanson was the best available option. You know thats not right. I also loved your follow up reply, it was hilarious.
  2. It gets frustrating after awhile. :banghead
  3. How many players who grew up in Chicago, rooted for the White Sox over the Cubs, I wish there was some statistic for that question. It would interest me.
  4. I know this great history we have, and are historic 1 championship, you would think everyone would want to come to U.S Celullar Field. I hate the Cubs, but honestly, do you think a huge FA would choose U.S Cellular Field over Wrigley Field. C'mon, be realistic. :fthecubs
  5. When are people going to understand this, IT"S THE RESULTS THAT MATTER!!!, who cares how much effort you put into making a winner, you haven't done it. Whats the difference between us and Montreal since 2000. Together we have a total of 0 playoff appearances. Look at the Mets, over the past few seasons, who has gone out and been more agressive then the the Mets and what do they have to show for it. So they were in th race barely last year at the deadline, they acquired Victor Zambrano for Scott Kazmir; well it's the effort that matters. That's retarted thinking, and anyone who thinks like that has severe problems. We're not the Yankees, and no one's comapring ourselves. We don't need to spend a ton of money and make a ton of moves. All we need to do is make the right moves and we haven't been able to do that. You guys have to get that through your heads. Hey, I've already said I don't like the signing, mainly because of the money, but I'm not here to really grade the move or begin my "fire KW" thread yet. We'll se how it works out during the season. Do I think the Sox should have looked somewhere else, yes. You could have looked to sign Percival earlier, you could have looked at Hoffman earlier, you could have tried to acquire Dotel, or Julio, or Flash Gordon. There were other possibilities, probably better then Hermanson. I hope he does well for the Sox sake, but in my opinion, i'm not too optimistic about the future results; I really hope I'm wrong.
  6. That's a load of crap Southsider, I know you love this team and wan't to see them win as much as anyone else on this board, so for you to play this "entertainment card is pretty much bologna. You didn't answer my question, why shouldn't we have big expectations for our team once in awhile, we didn't have them last season, we have more payroll flexibility this season, and the market is better this season, so why shouldn't we have big expectations. I'm not asking them to spend 100 million, but signing Dustin Hermanson? C'mon. Thats not the move we had anticipated, and to overpay for him makes it even worse.
  7. If, your always going to hve low expectations for your favorite team, then what's the point of rooting for them?
  8. Terrible move!!! Dustin Hermanson? How in the hell is this guy gonna get paid over 2 million dollars a year. Maybe as a long reliever or sport starter, but nothing else, and that title isn't worth over 2 million a year, especially when your name is Dustin Hermanson. I swear if he's the closer over Shingo or someone else, KW can go f**k off.
  9. You guys are missing the point, it doesn't matter what the payroll is, they weren't bringing 20 million dollar players off the bench to fill in. They brought guys like Jeff Davanon, Dallas McPherson, Casey Kotchman to come in for them. It ha snothing to do with payrolls, it's good team battling adversity and we didn't do it. Instead we found excuses and felt sorry for ourselves. Well guess what, NO ONE IN THE LEAGUE REALLY CARES THAT WE LOST MAGGS AND FRANK, THERE'S NO ONE CRYING ABOUT IT AT HOME RIGHT NOW, THERE ARE NO EXCUSES!!!
  10. Jermain Dye, If healthy, could completely light up the cell and be a good pick-up for us.
  11. I wouldn't mind the deal either. We get the best young pitcher in baseball with the best stuff in baseball as well as a power hitter who can play 1st for us. So what the we give those two up, how many of prospects work out for us anyway. Garland needs new scenery as well. The we could trade Konerko away for either some more pitching or some prospects.
  12. On some of Anthrax's points I don't agree on, But I do agree on two things other then the fact that we both want KW gone. 1) I do agree that a good GM and a good organization overcomes injuries and other problems to be successful. The Anaheim Angels had a ton of problems last season. Garrett Anderson was out the first half of the season, Erstad was hurt, Colon was pitching like a dog, they had to suspend Jose Guillen in the home-stretch of a playoff race and Tim Salmon, Brendan Donnelly, and Adam Kennady missed a little bit of time. They overcame that though and got into the playoffs, granted they had Vlad Guerrero but we had Paul Konerko and Carlos Lee, so whats our excuse. There are no excuses because injuries are never excuses, they're used as scapegoats of denial. The fact is, we should have been in the playoffs for two straight seasons and we weren't. 2) I also agree with Anthrax on the fact that for the beginning of the 2004 season, Ken Williams did not put the best possible team that he could of on the field. There was no excuse for Scott Shoenweis being our 4th starter. I can accept him being a 5th, but no way in hell a 4th, and don't give that Robert Person crap because give me a break, Robert Person wasn't helping this ball club. KW is known for his ability to make trades, and maybe he even tried to, to help the pitching staff in the offseason, but the fact is, he didn't help us out. Now no, I wouldn't want him to give up the farm for someone, but it's his job to figure out how to get things done and he failed at that. Pitching was a huge reason for last season's team not making the playoffs, and who's fault is that. Chisoxfn, in one of his blogs proved that the pitching was the most responsible for the failed season, both starting and relief. There weren't any significant injuries, so what was the problem? The injuries to Maggs and Frank hurt, but they weren't the deciding factor in our playoffless season, the pitching was and that's KW's fault becuase I think even he would agree that that pitching wasn't the best that could have been put out on the field.
  13. You people don't get it, you think Kw is a good manager because he brings in a bunch of players and that makes him great. The onlt thing that matter sis the end result, and guys that KW has brought in haven't worked and we haven't been successful at all. We haven't made the playoffs once in his term as GM. The twins make almost no big moves, yet make the playofffs ever year. They don't have to make big trades and expensive signings to be successfu. They bring in what works for their team. They're able to dump payroll (Eric Milton) for what many thought was a bad trade for them. Instead, Carlos Silva was great for them as their #4 starter and for a cheaper price. It is Kenny's fault and nobody else's. He brings in the players and managers and thaty don't work out. Who else is their to balme?
  14. I still see people though saying he's been a good GM because he's very aggresive. How agressive are the Twins? The fact is, a lot of KW's moves don't work out. Todd Ritchie, Both Alomars, Both Everett's, the Baldwin trade, the Koch trade, and the failure to sign Colon after he traded for him. We've already gone through 2 managers and still nothin. As much as people don't think so, I think Jerry would let KW push the payroll to 80 Mill, but that doesn't matter because KW won't bring in the right guys anyway.
  15. So the offseason has started out slow for the White Sox; thats fine, things are gonna turn around for them for one reason: Kenny Williams KW has to believe his job is in jeopardy after his current run as GM. He took over a playoff team and hasn't gotten thme back since. it's a pure disgrace and KW knows that. It started in the middle of last season when KW started to come out with this "win-now" approach. He knows he has to win now if he wants to keep his job. He survived last year, but I don't expect him to survive another playoff-less season. If he doesn't put out the best possible team he can, it could be it for KW as General Manager of the White Sox. I'm not expecting a Carlos Beltran or Randy Johnson, but as your eview the whole situation, I am now expecting either a Nomar, Rentereia, or Cabrera, as well as Jaret Wright or a Derek Lowe. The rumor by Jim, I believe has some foundation to it, and I do beloeve something like that probably was discussed. It wouldn't shock me if Luis Castillo was playing 2B for the White Sox next season and now I can see a resaon for optimism in being a White Sox fan. It's pretty simple, if KW can't do it this season, then he's had enough chances and the Sox should begin to turn in a different direction. I believe the scapegoats are all gone (now that Manuel was fired), now it's time for Kenny to prove his worth.
  16. Think about it; If KW can pull of a deal with NYY for Kenny Lofton, I would be OK with that. You can give up a B-level prospect or even JOE BORCHARD for Kenny. He could lead-off for us AGAIN and play Center Field. Aaron Rowand would then move over to RF. Kenny can still cover ground out there in center but he still does have a poor arm. What do you guys think?
  17. I think by next year you'll see Crede with a .270 avg, 25-30 HR, 85-90 RBI, .350 OBP. It's not great, but it's a step in the right direction. We could use that kind of production for next season. When you talk about his confidence being down, hitting him 8th in the lineup wasn't exactly a confidence booster. I always thought that was a bad move by Ozzie.
  18. I'm off the Jeff Nelson bandwagon, off the Antonio Osuna bandwagon, and on the Kyle Farnsworth and Octavio Dotel Bandwagons. The only reason I think Dotel might be available is because I think they could sign Trevor Hoffman.
  19. Article on the young phenom He's only 24. If he becomes a FA this year, he could be a guy to look at.
  20. This is just hypothetical and not realistic at all but look at the players we offered for RJ. Now would you be willing to give up Konerko, Garland, Anderson, and another prospect for these two? 2) As for Dotel, this is a very telling year for Dotel. I could understand if he had trouble adjusting to the closer role. But now he has the experience and a year under is belt, if he still can't do it, then you know what he is, but he could still be an unbelievable set-up man.
  21. Who Cares about the Cubs, we could of used him. NEW PLAN: Try and trade for Octavio Dotel in maybe a package deal with Huddy, then make him the set-up man and if Shingo falters, put him in as closer.
