  1. Are pitchers supposed to be jacked like this? I recall Syndergaard and Harvey also bulking up. It didn't work out for them.
  2. You're not getting Realmuto for that.
  3. Meh, but who the hell expected to get anything for Swarzak 3 months ago?
  4. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 02:30 AM) Call me crazy, but what if Hahn and Cashman have been having ongoing conversations about Robertson and it came up as "what would it take for us to get Torres?" And Cashman said Frazier and Kahnle? The Yanks still have Gregorious through 2020 and he's turned into a pretty damn good player. Torres isn't getting moved. Wish it weren't true, but you do not trade Torres for a rental 3B/1B and bullpen arms. That's just highway robbery. Cashman is not dumb by a long stretch.Give me Rutherford, Adams, and Fowler, and I'll say it was a good trade. I'd take Andjujar and/or Mateo as well. Yanks have so many good pieces. Red Sox could never match.
  5. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 11:34 PM) I don't think the Rockies trade for Q. I don't see the true fit. Sadly, I feel the Yankees make the most sense, but I don't think Cashman will do it. Outside of that, I'd prefer Atlanta or the Dodgers.
  6. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 11:22 PM) This is what concerns me about what Rabbit and others have said regarding us being disappointed... I suspect if Rodgers or some of these other headliners were involved, people would not necessarily be hugely disappointed. It makes me think we'll get more of a depth package. I just don't see how a deal could get done with Colorado that would make us fans happy unless Rodgers was included. Who would be the headliner? Pint? Sorry, but that requires WAAAYYY too much projection to be the headliner for Q. Tapia? Like the player, but again, I don't see it as a headliner. Other than Rodgers, I don't see that main piece in their system. I like McMahon and would want him included in any trade, but he's not a headliner.
  7. QUOTE (bobryansson @ Jul 9, 2017 -> 04:45 PM) Watched him live last night. Given the prospects already here, drafts, and others for players that can go, I think the "start to be good" window opens at 2019 and "compete for titles" at 2020. I think Q can contribute in those years more than can whoever the White Sox can get for him. You/we/I all know the arguments both ways and that it's been discussed here a lot already. I just had to put my $.02 in here. He was impressive. Working the curve in Coors? Crazy. I don't think this team has nearly enough depth in its system to consider not moving its most valuable trade asset. We've already seen that you cant win with 3-3 1/2 stars and below-replacement players everywhere else. The essence of the rebuild having a plurality of guys like Moncada, Kopech, Burger, Robert, whoever the main piece in Q trade, and your next 1st round draft pick end up being your "stars". From there, guys like Anderson, Lopez/Giolito, Sheets, Hansen, Collins, as well as the other pieces your getting in the near future via trade and draft picks will make up your supporting cast. That looks to be a much better supporting cast than we ever had surrounding Sale, Q, Abreu, and Eaton. They have to keep looking to acquire cost-controlled assets wherever they can find them. If you throw enough at the wall... If none of these guys end up being stars, your rebuild isn't going to work out, but how would keeping Q change that? Trading Q provides depth within the organization that you don't have. Add enough quality players within the system, and your likely to find a couple who end up being really good.
  8. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 7, 2017 -> 03:40 PM) I get the whole hometown ACE program angle, but Ray has done absolutely nothing in the minors aside from strike out and be a well below average hitter in a league in which he's older than the average age. You CANNOT have Ray be the headliner in a Quintana trade.
  9. And there it is. Replay getting it right as always. Why don't we increase replay, Stone Pony!!!
  10. Here we go again. Stone rationalizing a review that should never be conducted.
  11. I'd have let Q try and get out of this. I trust him more than Swarzak.
  12. QUOTE (harkness @ Jul 2, 2017 -> 07:20 PM) I'm not saying I agree with the rule... it's stupid. But it shouldn't have even mattered if our players just made basic baseball plays that inning. sorry I don't disagree with you that the defense is bad. But it is very frustrating to watch this sport turned into something it's not.
  13. QUOTE (harkness @ Jul 2, 2017 -> 07:13 PM) You guys are misplacing your anger at the umpires. It should be placed at the ridiculously mentally inept decision making and play of our infield. Just one mental midget mistake after another. No. It should be placed at a league that decided that this is what instant replay should be used for. To dismantle the neighborhood play (and get more guys injured) and to have ppl in dark rooms make judgement calls about where a runner would have been at a particular moment in time. It's ludicrous. Baseball is not the sport for full-scale replay. It boggles my mind how ppl like Stone could support it.
  14. This game is an ode to all the morons who have wanted replay in baseball. F U to Bud Selig and Rob Manfred.
  15. I want Adam Engel to be my CF and I don't care what he hits.
  16. Something doesn't seem right about Chance Adams. His numbers are ridiculous. But why would the Yankees call up Luis Cessa to start for Sabathia when they are trying to win the division? Are you telling me that Adams didn't deserve an audition based upon how well he's pitched in his minor league career? To me, he seems like someone the Yankees would prefer to keep in the minor leagues and then trade at the deadline. I don't think they want to risk him possibly being exposed at the major league level. Just a hunch on my part. I can't figure out how a competing team would not bring someone like that up to make a start instead of basically forfeiting with Luis Cessa.
  17. Sheesh, that Yankees system is loaded from top to bottom. Whatever their scouts and minor league instructors are doing, teams need to take notice and follow along.
  18. I've seen/heard on a number of different picks how much the analytics/trackman played a part in that particular selection. For those upset about the lack of upside/projection, I suppose this can alleviate concerns a bit.
  19. I'd have liked to see some LHP taken but it is what it is. If a couple of the RHP make it to the show, you can't really complain. In terms of where to put these guys: they'll go to rookie ball like every other year. The advanced ones will move up to Kanny and as a result, some players are going to get promotions and some players are going to get real jobs.
  20. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 05:15 PM) This can't be right. You're saying they are purposely not drafting the best players available, that could be ranked high, just to have depth? I never said that. They are selecting more advanced players that require less projection.
  21. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 06:04 PM) I think that they're securing the foundation of the system and adding some much needed depth with college guys. So that when they draft that raw prep player, it won't be such a blow if they don't work out. Does that make sense? I think this is dead on. This wasn't a draft where the club was looking to bolster its 1-5 prospect rankings. This draft looks like one that will be used to provide actual depth in the 10-15, 15-20 area going forward. Hahn has talked about this being priority. Rebuilding means you're going to get your fair share of very high picks in the future which will allow you to restock the top of the farm system. The goal of this draft seems to be to ensure that the club is developing real depth in the lower rungs.
  22. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 10:55 PM) 9th round is for indiana. Wasn't jackson glines 9th round too? Dedelow is a great name, doubt he gets out of AZ. I think it was Buddy Bell who was singing Jackson Glines's praises. Another reason why I would want that man as far away from my organization as possible.
  23. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 10:43 PM) Sox Draft Craig DeDelow OF Indiana University Big power, 19 home runs. Only hit .258. College senior. Sounds like the type of pick needed to ensure Abbott is locked up.
  24. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 09:39 PM) Abbott will sign. The Sox aren't going to draft someone in the 8th round who won't sign. Find the last time the Sox failed to sign a Top 10 pick. THIS you don't think scouts within the organization have developed a relationship with this kid and his family? Do you really think the kid is shocked that he was picked? I can guarantee these discussions have been going on for many a week between the family and the organization. The White Sox know that he's willing to sign for a certain amount of money or they would NEVER have picked him in this spot. So unless he has a sudden change of heart, my guess is that contract will be signed in short order.
