Gamethread: White Sox vs Pirates 7:10 PM CSN+

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 18, 2015 -> 02:46 AM) Do you read what you respond to? My first words "I'M ALL FOR TRADING HIM". I'm talking down the inevitable "Hahn sucks because you didn't turn Robertson into Joey Gallo" post. I'm not arguing with you, I'm saying I could care less about what you get back. If you can get all (or even most) of that contract off of your hands, you do it. -

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 18, 2015 -> 03:41 AM) I'm all for trading him, as he's worthless on this s*** team, but he won't get much. He'll get as much as Papelbon probably, which is a B level prospect and maybe another intriguing arm thrown in. Who cares? You are no where near ready to win. Best case scenario is that by the time you are good enough, Robby's abilities have diminished. Get rid of anything you can (except Sale because these idiots will completely miss on all players they acquire for him) and start over again. -

Should the Sox make an example out of someone?

QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 17, 2015 -> 03:11 AM) I'm the last person that will give him a pass. Especially if we become sellers. But he needs to do something to fix it. Right now it doesnt seem like the players realize they have a manager or an authority figure. I'm not sure if I want him "fixing it". I'm sorry but his tenure as a GM hasn't been filled a bunch of great moves that would make me think he's the guy for the job. He signed Abreu, he traded for Eaton, but with the way Santiago has pitched this season, the trade is 50/50 at best. He got good extensions done for Sale and Quintana. He traded for Avi who has been okay, while only giving up Peavy. On the other end of the coin, he signed Keppinger, laRoche, Melky, traded for Shark, got nothing for Addison Reed. -

QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 17, 2015 -> 02:58 AM) Easy the manager. This team is lifeless right now. Right now they are playing like s*** and nothing is happening to him. Hahn needs to get rid of Robin and get more involved. I'm not sure that I want him more involved. I don't quite understand why everyone is so apt to give Hahn a pass while denigrating KW as an incompetent. I agree with that assessment, but who was his right-hand man all those years? Where is the future? The big league squad is horrible, the farm system is better (compared to what it was), but its still not really having a very good year in terms of seeing prospects elevating their games and improving. The entire franchise needs an overhaul. If that included telling Hahn and KW to go grab a begging cup, I wouldn't lose too much sleep. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 12:48 AM) Let's just put it this way, his 1 WAR as a part-timer is putting Flowers and Soto to shame, and he's actually improved defensively from what we saw in Chicago. Players improving AFTER they leave. Very comforting.

I like this Ricky Mota. Obviously about 3 years too early to even discuss him, but so far, so good in the DSL.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 31, 2015 -> 04:45 PM) I would guess that means he is extended spring training and getting ready to go to short season rookie ball. Wouldn't he be almost 20 by now? I don't think he's there.

Doe anyone know what happened to Luis Castillo, the 3B that Marco Paddy signed out of the DR? Didn't he receive a fairly substantial signing bonus (by White Sox standards)? I'm going to assume that whole thing fell through...

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 30, 2015 -> 10:40 PM) You fix the mess by having a farm system that produces Major League Baseball players. Until we have that, get used to suckiness to mediocrity. Unless you can go out and give $100 million contracts to the best free agents, the building of a consistently contending team must be done through the farm system. I guess my answer is simple: Fire Buddy Bell and clean house in the rest of the player development side at least the "hitting" people. This is the truth. Wieters is not going to make this team a contender. This team doesn't need more free agents. It needs minor league instructors capable of developing players the right way. Until that happens, the Sox will NEVER be a consistent contender.

It is what it is. To think I was mildly excited one week ago.

QUOTE (Dizzy Sox @ May 26, 2015 -> 12:35 AM) At least they blew this one quickly so everyone could go on and do other things with their evening. Hell yeah!

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 21, 2015 -> 01:00 PM) He's definitely a catcher, that's basically all he's played in the org and that's what they signed him as. As you said though, big college hitter at a small school. He's a backup, so he's an org guy and I wouldn't invest much there. That said, its worth noting that the org released or traded a whole bunch of other backup C's and even some guys that looked like starters earlier, during the offseason, but kept Plourde. And guys like Zac Fisher are still unassigned. So they clearly think more of Plourde than some others. Why was Jose Barraza released? I guess I could ask the same of Ayala in 2014... For a team with almost zero in the way of catching prospects, they sure are quick to release guys whop were supposed to have "tools"

Can someone explain why Ynoa is in W-S? Wouldn't Birmingham be a more suitable place for him?

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 10, 2015 -> 05:13 AM) My new position is it doesn't matter. Somehow Minnesota is five over .500 with all no names plus Mauer. We can hit lightning in a bottle just as easily with young guys who click. Now that I'm not emotionally attached to any players, I say (if Sox continue to suck) go ahead and trade them all and try to get some superstar younguns. They can't play any worse than our teams of the Robin era and the late Ozzie era. I say give a new manager some youth and speed and defense. You would then have to have confidence that this organization has any capabilities of 1. developing its own position players (no evidence) and 2. locating, acquiring, and further developing other teams' young position players (limited evidence of varying results- Gillaspie, Eaton, Avi) Its just not as simple as you write. Not for this team, at least. I wanna get excited about guys like Engel, Tim Anderson, Sanchez, Hawkins, May, etc. but lets face it, as fans, with this team's recent (and not-so-recent) history of developing position players, I have absolutely no reason to. I don't trust guys like KW, Buddy Bell, Capra, Laumann

This organization is embarrassing from the top-down. And no one is exempt from that distinction.

I think tonight is (should be) the night this ends for Ventura. Its that bad.
