  1. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 30, 2013 -> 02:29 AM) Well, back in the late 1700s, you were either Christian or you were hated, mocked, or beaten...something along those lines. yeah no. most of the founding fathers were Deists
  2. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Apr 30, 2013 -> 07:09 AM) I guess from your list I would choose Brad Pitt or Johnny Depp. If the list was expanded I would choose Crowe, Norton or DiCaprio. Or from the younger generation, JGL or Ben Foster. Ben Foster has got some serious acting chops. absolutely agree re Foster and Norton. Ed Norton is just amazing. amazed Tom Hanks is getting no love. no Clooney? Johnny Depp is overrated. Show me something he's done in the last five years where he didn't have pale white makeup and gesticulate all over the place using the same jack sparrow voice
  3. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Apr 30, 2013 -> 02:42 AM) What??? yyeahhhh, the Rock is not the most popular actor today. you don't see many movies do you?
  4. me and i'm officially pissed at the rest of you.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 29, 2013 -> 10:01 PM) You have to remember, ESPN has a huge demographic of Christian viewers as well. His rant was the equivalent of the Tea Party's genesis...sort of a call to arms. I even wonder now if an overtly Christian broadcaster is fired for his viewpoint (based largely on the Bible) that he can now consider himself a "protected" class and file a wrongful termination lawsuit for discrimination based upon his religious beliefs. It's definitely a slippery slope...so many of the Founding Fathers were overtly Christian. I can't imagine they would support a country where the pendulum has swung so far back the other direction that Christians were almost being persecuted for their beliefs (not in a the Roman Colisseum, thrown to the lions sense...but the modern day equivalent). He wasn't stating you should condemn Collins or spit on him or attack him (hate crimes), he was just saying he disagreed with his homosexuality...not even getting into the argument whether it's a choice/decision or based on genetic predetermination. And I say all this never once having dreamed of voting Republican. proof please.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 27, 2013 -> 09:10 PM) Worst start to a season with injuries in a long time for the Sox. Our luck has been ridiculous over the last decade, it was bound to run out at some point.
  7. QUOTE (Jake @ Apr 26, 2013 -> 10:14 PM) They all said Rally Crede was silly too... i need a hero...
  8. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 26, 2013 -> 02:24 PM) They need to make TWTW the team slogan for next year. Brooks Boyer would be stupid not to use it. f*** that they should just rebrand THIS year, it's early enough, and make an impact is terrible. Hawk is awesome.
  9. yeah no where did i say he doesn't deserve everything he gets and that he isn't a horrible, horrible excuse for a human being. doesn't mean his story can't also be tragic.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 23, 2013 -> 02:53 PM) The Boston Globe ‏@BostonGlobe 26m BREAKING | Source: Marathon bombing suspect admitted that he and brother detonated bombs, killed police officer so... saying i feel bad for the younger brother isn't exactly what I mean... obviously he deserves every BIT of what he's going to get and then some, but ... damn man I feel like this is just a kid who was obsessed with his older brother, whose parents were back home in wherever, and he just... got f***ed up and corrupted by his only father figure and idol, who it seems was the real mastermind. f***ed up stuff. ugh.
  11. Please watch this. This guy is an elected official. Holy crap. (says he would torture Tsarnaev) http://www.cnn.com/video/?hpt=hp_t2#/video...t-greg-ball.cnn

  13. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 22, 2013 -> 01:17 PM) Because as long as we give the worst of us the same rights as the best of us, we will stay a free society. When we are presented with the most terrible acts, that is when we must be the most vigilant in protecting rights. Because why does (insert) deserve the same rights? Part of the price of being an american is that we believe in innocent until proven guilty. And regardless of how guilty the person may be, until that moment, they are guaranteed the same rights as anyone else. You dont let them change you, thats what they want. boom. exactly.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 21, 2013 -> 12:36 PM) I strongly disagree with the number of posts you view per page. you can... change that? lol
  15. that's ok, the whole Mets-Rockies series got "colded" out and they had to completely rearrange the game times so that they weren't playing late at night. It was in the single digits a couple of the cancelled nights, and the game they did play it was in the 30s.
  16. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Apr 19, 2013 -> 10:47 PM) I say put him in general population. I see romance in his future. a friend of mine suggested putting him in a yankee jersey in the middle of fenway park.
  17. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Apr 19, 2013 -> 08:11 PM) i kind of expected this guy to surrender rather than suicide/final gun battle. i mean, he ran over his own brother to get away at one point. i thought he was gonna kill himself
  18. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Apr 19, 2013 -> 05:40 PM) He's in the boat. True standoff going. Who knows how this ends. Why not flashbang him?
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 19, 2013 -> 05:23 PM) NO chance of that really. Yeah. Either we killed him or he killed himself. Those were the only possible endings
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 18, 2013 -> 10:21 PM) By withholding their 15 minutes of fame, can you prevent the Hinckleys and James Holmeses and Timothy McVeigh's and David Koreshes? How can you do that in country that believes so strongly in freedom of the press, and where there will always be an overpowering interest in knowing the who and why in these situations? We can get carried away blaming movies and video games for real life violence, but there are links to be made...just like it's pretty clear these types of shootings and terrorist events come in bunches, usually. As a fan of the two NCIS shows, it seems that "real life" is no longer distinguishable from the plot of a t.v. show. It used to be that crime shows inspired copycats...now, they just reflect the reality of the random chaos and violence which has become a party of everyday existence since 9/11. It's the same argument about memorials/monuments, Freedom Tower, etc. There is a very memorable and poignant memorial in Bali to the nightclub bombing victims...some would argue that building these things only glorifies the perpetrators of violence, whereas the opposite argument is that non celebrating and memorializing the victims and stressing what they contributed to the world is giving those who sow violence even more power than ever. maybe. from the dawn of free press through the 80s, how many terrorist attacks or assassinations, etc, happened on American soil? two assassinations, and .......... how many bombings/mass shootings/etc? I can't think of any. now they happen every other week since the invention of the 24 hour news cycle and the sensationalist media. kids have been playing toy soldier since the dawn of time. whether that's with sticks or video game controllers, i'm not convinced THAT'S what causes anything, and science supports me on that. the news media, on the other hand? the glory it gives these kids? makes sense to me.
  21. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 18, 2013 -> 10:05 PM) Then lets just not f***ing show it? We'll sweep everything under the rug. I'm talking about balance, and ditching the sensationalism. a few years back you NEVER would have seen this picture on a website. it would not have been allowed to be shown. fast forward to 2013, and this was on CNN's front page all day Monday:
  22. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Apr 18, 2013 -> 11:00 PM) Oh God not this ridiculous argument again. haha it's not ridiculous man. the types of people who commit crimes like this do it because they want to have power in their lives. more than that, they want to "mean" something, and be "remembered". when the news shows the types of images it has this week ad nauseum, it just shows other crazies that this is the way to find that meaning. it gives them what they want and adds fuel to the fire.
