  1. there are always "copycats" after big events like the bombing. Newtown was the last in a string of shootings relatively close together. it's the news media's fault IMO
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 18, 2013 -> 08:58 AM) No idea honestly. In Texas, it probably doesn't matter. Most towns literally have no zoning ordinances in that state. I'm guessing that the plant was there first, because a neighborhood would have a fit the other way around. right and THAT'S my point. whichever was there first, regulations should be in place to keep this exact thing from happening. it's common sense. however, in texas... it ain't so common.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 18, 2013 -> 08:51 AM) The idea is to prevent abuses of power by the government. Without that sort of protection, you could have a local government literally legislate your house out of existence, with nothing you could do about it. nah man i get it. but what about regulating where you can and can't build a plant? which was there first?
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 18, 2013 -> 08:33 AM) Most of Texas has no zoning laws. I'm speaking more for places that have real zoning laws even. If you pass a zoning ordinance, you can't make existing structures go back and change to fit the new law. They get grandfathered in until they make some material change to either the existing structure, or to their zoning. but... but... government regulation is bad! ...
  5. f*** this country. it was a bad bill, but it was a f***ing bill. we're useless.
  6. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 09:54 AM) Because it's noteworthy that the authorities have found someone they think is worth guarding? All the major networks (and the NY Post!) reported it. Your rush to blame this on racism, or even worse, fear-mongering, was an overreaction and completely unnecessary. because he's saudi. its BS
  7. QUOTE (Jake @ Apr 15, 2013 -> 09:28 PM) One has to wonder if he's being "guarded" because he in fact needs protection from people who might accuse the Arab man near the scene of being responsible. guards are always posted at hospitals that treat victims of something like this.
  8. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 15, 2013 -> 08:51 PM) slight overreaction. yeah no. what's the point of reporting that if they guy's not in custody?
  9. f*** you CNN - fear-mongering at its finest. Saudi man was injured at the scene. He's not in custody, but we just want to make sure you all know that an Arab person "may or may not" have been involved. Accidental racism my ass.
  10. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Apr 15, 2013 -> 05:59 PM) There is a suspect in custody http://www.nypost.com/p/news/national/auth...29uC2PDGIjYBalO the post is not reliable news information.
  11. if no one's posted: Boston. f***ing horrible. I remember, when 9/11 went down, my reaction was, "Well, I've had it with humanity." But I was wrong. I don't know what's going to be revealed to be behind all of this mayhem. One human insect or a poisonous mass of broken sociopaths. But here's what I DO know. If it's one person or a HUNDRED people, that number is not even a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of a percent of the population on this planet. You watch the videos of the carnage and there are people running TOWARDS the destruction to help out. (Thanks FAKE Gallery founder and owner Paul Kozlowski for pointing this out to me). This is a giant planet and we're lucky to live on it but there are prices and penalties incurred for the daily miracle of existence. One of them is, every once in awhile, the wiring of a tiny sliver of the species gets snarled and they're pointed towards darkness. But the vast majority stands against that darkness and, like white blood cells attacking a virus, they dilute and weaken and eventually wash away the evil doers and, more importantly, the damage they wreak. This is beyond religion or creed or nation. We would not be here if humanity were inherently evil. We'd have eaten ourselves alive long ago. So when you spot violence, or bigotry, or intolerance or fear or just garden-variety misogyny, hatred or ignorance, just look it in the eye and think, "The good outnumber you, and we always will." - Patton Oswalt
  12. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Apr 15, 2013 -> 04:48 PM) Why? Why cant I point out the real truth here? If two teenagers wrapped a V6 Mustang around a tree and got themselves killed it wouldn't get this attention, if two 10 year olds in the cancer ward passed on the same day it wouldn't even make the news. But a couple bombs go off with similar results and we cant help but be enamored by it. I generally wouldn't care about people's reaction to this, but I think it carries a price to immerse yourself so much in these stories. We get scared and we want something to be done to make us feel more secure. So because the first two Americans to be killed by a bomb in this country since I-dont-even-know-its-been-so-long an entire city is on lockdown and people have found a whole new reason to be scared to live their lives. That's really all I wanted to say, I think someone should say it. you're not as great as you think you are.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 15, 2013 -> 05:14 PM) Yeah, nothing earth-shattering, no hints at all about who did this. if it were foreign someone would have taken credit by now...
  14. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 15, 2013 -> 09:23 AM) So the wife and I took a couple we know out on a bike ride yesterday. They aren't like huge or anything, just somewhat out of shape. We did our usual 20-miler - Prairie Path to Great Western Trail and back - seriously exactly 20 miles from our driveway. Holy crap, it's insane how out of shape people really are - given she and I are so active, the bike ride is seriously nothing. A ride that normally takes us an hour and forty minutes took two hours and fifty five minutes. They had to stop tons of times. My buddy had to walk the bike part of the way. His legs were dead. They were both completely f***ed after this effortless ride. It's nuts. good ole America... had a gig out in Dayton OH this weekend... yikes.
  15. QUOTE (Sockin @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 03:45 PM) Konerko defends Quentin. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,6386586.story great points. love me some Paulie.
  16. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 13, 2013 -> 09:09 AM) wtf was that slide?
  17. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 02:34 PM) That's just stupid. Clearly she doesn't only live on ramen noodles as she'd be bloated and miserable. #mediastunt well... she's gonna die from it so... not sure if it's really a media stunt. girl has the health #s of an 80 year old.
  18. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 12:21 PM) Way to go Reddy, your quinoa (pronounced keen-wa) obsession has led to skyrocketing prices, to the point of which the locals that once lived on the staple food can no longer afford to buy it. http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/20...le-truth-quinoa "The appetite of countries such as ours for this grain has pushed up prices to such an extent that poorer people in Peru and Bolivia, for whom it was once a nourishing staple food, can no longer afford to eat it. Imported junk food is cheaper." So for you to be healthier, you're making poor people unhealthy. Good going you fruit baskets. Oh, I'm eating a side of quinoa for lunch today. Full disclosure. It appears my hypocrisy knows no bounds. haha guess what!? I've pretty much stopped eating quinoa anyway. but yeah, stuff like that has me conflicted. do i care about my own health more than the lives of farmers in Peru? ......... kinda?
  19. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 06:54 PM) Steroids. ah yes. that too.
  20. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 04:24 PM) At the gym today, LA Fitness. Saw 2 kids, maybe between the ages of 17-21, standing shirtless in front of the mirror in the locker room popping zits on each others backs. sweet jesus.
