the whole argument of "we shouldn't ban guns because they'll make bombs instead" is just ludicrous. basically that's like saying, "here kids, we don't want you killing 100 people with a bomb, so we'll make it easier for you to get semi-automatic rifles with which you'll only kill 10 to 30 people, how's that sound?"

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 10:19 PM) So it would be okay if we passed the following bill because the front cover of it read Aid and Sandy. Resolution for Quick and Immediate Aid for the Victims of Superstorm Sandy Article 1. ) 75 million in aid to X. Article 2.) 100 million in aid to Y. Addendum 7083d.) 4 F-35 Jets for overwatch. Because here is some of the pork that was part of the bill... •$2 million to repair damage to the roofs of museums in Washington, D.C., while many in Hurricane Sandy’s path still have no roof over their own heads. •$150 million for fisheries as far away from the storm’s path as Alaska. •$125 million for the Department of Agriculture’s Emergency Watershed Protection program, which helps restore watersheds damaged by wildfires and drought. •$20 million for a nationwide Water Resources Priorities Study. •$15 million for NASA facilities, though NASA itself has called its damage from the hurricane ‘minimal.’ •$50 million in subsidies for tree planting on private properties. •$336 million for taxpayer-supported AMTRAK without any detailed plan for how the money will be spent. •$5.3 billion for the Army Corps of Engineers – more than the Corps’ annual budget – with no statement of priorities about how to spend the money. •$12.9 billion for future disaster mitigation activities and studies, without identifying a single way to pay for it. most of that sounds pretty good! also there's pork in every bill that's ever been passed ever.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 05:24 PM) The world doesn't revolve around NY and NJ. Surprised you didn't throw 'children' into the mix as well. They had a Sandy bill up. Half of it was pork, so it got turned down. Then the NY/NJ contingent proceeded to eat their own in selfish rants about how they are being ignored, when they know full well that if it ws a bill for relief in Texas or Idaho that had that much pork in it, they too would be asking lots of questions. Nope, the world doesn't revolve around NY and NJ, but when Katrina and Joplin victims got money immediately and we're still waiting? That's a little messed up. You don't think so? Or is this what we get for being blue states?

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 12:57 PM) Ban guns -> Fascist government -> Lots of slaughtering by said government, wait wait wait, the US Gov't wants to ban guns!?!? HOORAY! that's news to me!

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 12:53 PM) Go organize a militia and attack some federal buildings about it. Until then, you're not resisting s***. Boom. Goes. The. Dynamite.
-
QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 12:53 PM) Nah they dont want to kill us yet, but clearly the current administration and the past few before it have had a real lust for indefinitely detaining us. on this, we agree. it's f***ed up and disturbing.
-
QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 12:48 PM) Yes you do, I mean I'm reading it right now. The State = God. Were all powerless to stop it and instead of resisting it we should accept it into our lives. Its f***ing religion dude, stop deluding yourself. You're acting as if it's a given that the government wants to kill us... which... ya know... aside from the Republicans scrapping the Sandy bill, is not the case. You're funny.
-
QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 12:45 PM) You know what, keep worshipping the state. If that's what makes you feel better about your dim views then go right ahead. See where it gets you when you give them a sole monopoly on the use of force and they turn around and f*** you harder than you thought possible. You talk about them like they're God. Like they chose who lives and dies and who gets what; like we have no control over our own lives becuase why would we? That's what the government is for. Its pathetic, but its right in line with your wimpy views on providing mental health and feeding welfare $$$ into the south side warzones. I can only imagine what it would be like if any of you actually had to resist something or display any token amount of personal responsibility. Unprincipled losers, it pisses me off just thinking about you. 1) none of this is true 2) i don't believe in God 3) Seriously guys? I get flamed for making jokes but this guy says stuff like THIS and we're like "yeah ok that's cool" hilarious.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 12:38 PM) And somehow I get the feeling you're OK with that. I really am not going to say much more than that, we all know where this leads. lol I'm ok with it because there's NOTHING WE CAN DO ABOUT IT! haha what do you suggest sir?

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 12:33 PM) Might as well watch the Walking Dead as a justification for owning a gun. You should stop posting. nothing about what i'm posting is any more ridiculous than what you're posting. you're talking wacko conspiracy theories, and the reality is this: if the government wants you dead, you'll be dead. no matter WHAT weapons you own.

Even if we all HAVE guns, please run to your Netflix and watch Jericho.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 12:29 PM) Government needs to be afraid of us. *sigh*

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 12:19 PM) Definitely not new here...as I expect this to happen a few times over the course of an argument, and actually use it quite often myself -- but after you've used it about 50 times in a row -- it's time to admit you have nothing left to add to the conversation and to stop clicking reply. oh come on, it's only been the last two pages. everyone else gets to be snarky and flippant now and again but I don't? please. it's better than another all out RAGE from Duke every 10 minutes.
-
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 12:15 PM) It's just reached a point where you're posing The Sheldon Cooper Offensive at this point. As Sheldon put it: You're now engaging in reductio ad absurdum. It's the logical fallacy of extending someone's argument to ridiculous proportions and then criticizing the result. While I do this myself, I think you've all made your point now. i'm pretty sure that's all this thread has been from day one - on BOTH sides of the aisle.
-
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 12:09 PM) Yes, because using a credit card to defend yourself against a criminal with a gun will do wonders. Just hope you and BS never find yourselves in that situation, because if you do...you won't be here to tell us about it. If anything, that dynamite blew up in your face. If you guys can't actually have a meaningful conversation, don't have one. Because all the bulls*** you've added to the conversation as of late is just that...absolute nonsensical bulls***. come on dude, we've gone through 90 pages of this. everyone knows where everyone stands. we're just rehashing the same damn arguments. what's the point anymore?
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 11:47 AM) I don't find that funny. You're pretty bad an interpreting my feelings. Besides, people could use anything as a weapon to defend themselves. Credit cards, hammers, pencils, you name it. boom goes the dynamite.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 2, 2013 -> 10:19 PM) I would say Billy Blanks' TaeBo would be more useful in this instance. I'm doing Les Mills Combat right now. I'm good to go.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 2, 2013 -> 08:23 PM) Tyranny of the majority. Happened with Bush, happening with Obama. The one way to really stem the tide of it is leaving more up to state and local governments, but the liberal obsession with forcing others to do what you want them to has prohibited that. then you would literally have Civil War 2... which ... i'm not actually all that opposed to...
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 2, 2013 -> 07:56 PM) Funny now the position on mandates has changed in six years... to be fair, the margin for Obama's win was WAY bigger.

State trying to make sperm donor pay child support
Reddy replied to BigSqwert's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 2, 2013 -> 06:58 PM) A Kansas man who donated sperm to a lesbian couple after answering an online ad is fighting the state's efforts to suddenly force him to pay child support for the now 3-year-old girl, arguing that he and the women signed an agreement waiving all of his parental rights. via Personally, I feel that this guy should get off, no pun intended. um... obviously. -
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 2, 2013 -> 05:25 PM) In what world do the Dems control Congress today? Why should Republicans lie down when they control the House? Only because of gerrymandering. Dems got 2 million more votes. The people support Obama and democratic policies. Deal with it.
-
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 2, 2013 -> 03:48 PM) So again, to the point you never responded to the first time you made this argument -- 2 years ago Obama should have laid down and signed any Tea Party bill that crossed his desk, right? Meaning we shouldn't have Obamacare as law right now. in what world did the tea party control all of congress? the tea party is just loud, they still weren't the majority

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 2, 2013 -> 02:32 PM) I will welcome you with open arms. It's not that hard of a change. Plus you live in the most vegan friendly city in the US. I think Portland would give us a run for our money.
