  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 24, 2012 -> 01:54 PM) H. Christ. The story now is saying that the shooter probably set the fire to draw them in. Thats immediately what I figured when I heard. Only thing that makes sense.
  2. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 24, 2012 -> 03:46 PM) Hey, if anything I've actually calmed down over the years...but I'm still an over the top version of myself online. At least, I like to think that. Haha I feel the same way
  3. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 24, 2012 -> 11:24 AM) Don't you know me at all yet, Reddy? I'm always right, and you should do as I say, not as I do (unless I say you should do as I do, then do that). You know, almost exactly how you feel about most things. I'm trying to expand my mind on that actually.
  4. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 24, 2012 -> 11:03 AM) Yes, I do realize that. They're designed that way for a reason. Which is?
  5. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 23, 2012 -> 11:46 AM) Of course I think that opinion backed by rational thought and consideration is worth somewhat more than an opinion based on ignorance. However, you being the person that gets to decide what's rational is a different story altogether. Ignorance IS easier...and it's ignorance that leads people to believe their way is the only way. In some cases they may even be right...but the second they start thinking that, it takes on a life of it's own. You've done a great job proving this yourself with your last few posts. Well done!
  6. QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 23, 2012 -> 10:52 AM) Being able to have any opinion you want and me wanting someone to have any opinion they want are two different things. Duke can have any opinion he wishes, but I'm still going to want him to agree with me. i don't even want him to agree with me, i just wish that his opinions were well thought out and rational and that he could argue them without jumping the shark in every post.
  7. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 23, 2012 -> 09:43 AM) Well, well...aren't you intolerant of others? While I may agree that some of Duke's posts are a bit over the top, saying things like your ashamed to live somewhere because of "extremists" like him, and implying that he shouldn't have as much political say as you is pretty extreme in and of itself, and goes against everything this country stands for. Personally, I think it's awesome we live in a place where people can have unpopular opinions, but that's a different post for a different time. Back to my original point, you love cherry picking things he says, such as calling Chicago a war zone, and then telling him it's insulting to others that actually live in areas with high gang activity...but it's ok for you to call him an "extremist"? Watch as I do the same thing to you as you: Extremists drive planes into buildings and kill innocent civilians, and it's a f***ing insult to the men and women of our military that face *actual* extremists on a daily basis when you compare a forum poster to one of them. See how easy that is to do? As for a few of the things you said, you can always leave this embarrassing country that gives others a voice you deem inferior to your own, since it seems as if you've missed the point of being here in the first place. ...and second, and more importantly, he deserves equal say in policial matters, regardless of what you or others may think of his opinions. What makes your opinions more important than his aside from nothing? What's funny is you don't even see how intolerant you were being with this post, not to mention condescending, because you actually believe your opinions are better than this and that his opinions have no insight, and should carry no weight whatsoever. This country was designed with the very thought of keeping people such as yourself at bay in the case they rise to power. To prevent people from forcing their opinions on others because they "know" they're superior opinions. Now, before you start with an angry retort, do understand that I understand your thinking here...I've been there...it's easy to reply to a position you find extreme in an angry fashion on a forum such as this, especially during a heated political debate. you don't think that an opinion backed by rational thought and consideration is worth somewhat more than an opinion based in ignorance? so if I have an opinion because I've looked at the data, done the research, and thus I've decided to believe A, that it's worth EXACTLY the same as someone who says "screw all that, I believe B because that's what my daddy told me to believe." or "that's what this 2000 year old book tells me to believe" or "that's what Glenn Beck tells me to believe"? because the problem with this is that ignorance is EASIER, so more people are going to be ignorant than not. giving them equal voices is probably what's led us to dive headfirst into the crapper like this the last 15 years, because major corporations, news media and pundits are choosing to FEED the ignorance and misinformation to create support for certain parties and platforms. the fact that we have instantaneous access to information would - theoretically - help people become MORE informed, but unfortunately it's done just the opposite, and strengthened and increased the amount of ignorance in this country... and it's really a shame.

Ugh I hate when you paint yourself as the angelic middle man who is holier than everyone else on the board.
  9. QUOTE (YASNY @ Dec 23, 2012 -> 02:55 AM) No disrespect intended, but suicide is a very selfish act. and it's not usually done by someone who is in a stable state of mind... you're not thinking rationally in that moment. selfish or not doesn't really play into it. more evidence that this country is sorely lacking in mental health care.
  10. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Dec 22, 2012 -> 03:55 AM) Nah, you just make the whites feel really guilty about something that happened 150 years ago and exploit that to funnel a bunch of money into the drug trade and housing projects. When that system implodes and gives us places like contemporary Chicago (aka a f***ing war zone) you won't blame the policies that disarmed good citizens and acted as a stimulus check for gangs. But as long as it furthers the expansion of The State, which is about the only god you're willing to tolerate our kids being indoctrinated with at your mind control camps, innocuously referred to as public schools. Also, you brought up identity politics. I didn't, so don't get all whiny on me. You're right. We poor white people have really been through a lot... why do people insist on persecuting us? Life is SO HARD! If only we made more money than women and minorities... if only we had more opportunity.... if only the members of congress really cared about the issues that matter to white America... *sigh* PS, the 60s we're 50 years ago. Your math is off a bit.

    QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 22, 2012 -> 12:06 AM) Can you explain a bit more? I've seen it in 3D (Chinese), online and read the book, just curious what you mean "challenges everything you believe in" as it was a work of fiction, in the end. As someone who doesn't believe in God, it gave me the best argument I've ever heard that I should. And it did so with one sentence. More than that, it WORKS because the movie doesn't preach. My reaction isnt really the POINT of it. The point, to me, is that -

    QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 21, 2012 -> 10:24 PM) This is exactly how I felt after "Elf".
  13. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 21, 2012 -> 09:31 PM) I'm biased, but nothing will ever beat J4L's transcript of him calling DCSF. I'm just saying it should be in the running. PS, isn't the anti-video game argument the same as the anti gun argument? Guns don't kill people blah blah blah video games don't kill people, regulations bad, freedom good, just except for those Hollywood types right?

    Life of Pi was easily one of the most impactful films I've ever seen. It's life affirming, while simultaneously challenging everything you believe in (or in my case don't believe in). World view, consider yourself shifted.
  15. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Dec 21, 2012 -> 05:57 PM) You know what, I'm finally starting to realize that has never been about preventing tragedies. You want guns gone because all you useless, lazy liberals have been on a 40 year mission to eliminate property rights in this country. Unfortunately so many people are armed that you cannot do that. So you work everyone into a frenzy over the dangers of made-up things like assault weapons hoping you can convince the government (who is all too willing to assume control over all private property) and disable our defense against your attempts at theft. Then you'll be free to loot and pillage all you want, build you little collective hellscape. Some of you probably dont want to admit that this your goal, others probably are just along for the ride and would be horrified if what you're clamoring for actually came to fruition. You cede our rights to defend ourselves and we'll be slaves to the federal government. Greatest. Post. Ever. POTY contender?
  16. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Dec 21, 2012 -> 11:28 AM) I kinda agree. just go over the stupid cliff. i'm sure any compromise will be the worst of both sides. haha the one thing that will unite people from both parties.
  17. LaPierre calls on Congress to immediately appropriate money to put armed officers in every school in America. The conversation on this idea has to start immediately. He says the NRA has 11,000 police training instructors willing to help out.
  18. Wayne LaPierre of the NRA: "The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun."
  19. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Dec 21, 2012 -> 10:50 AM) They want to shed salary, but nobody wants to take on Thornton's. Do you think they could get more for Veal or Thornton in a deal right now? How on earth do you know all these things? Your source must be really good. *sigh*
  20. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 21, 2012 -> 08:29 AM) If you really want to change it up only do eccentric or negative work. This type of activity is the strongest type of contract and will increase muscle mass the fastest. It is also the only way muscles gets sore. Really? I didn't know that. That's a super useful bit of information. Interesting...
  21. QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Dec 20, 2012 -> 07:56 PM) A team with no identity or personality just became even more bland. The competitive attitude of AJ wont be replaced and I am glad he was on my side all these years. Blaaaah on this Hahn. All you looking for drop off will be disappointed meh, Pierzynski lost all his personality after Burls left anyway... remember how fun this team used to be? AJP, Burls, Crede, Rowand bein' all rowdy... those were the days.
  22. dude's never been on the DL - I mean sure maybe it'll happen some day, but he's not significantly more likely to get hurt next year than he was last year
  23. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 20, 2012 -> 06:53 PM) Love how people are so happy to move on from him. We have Tyler Flowers now as a starter. Tyler Flowers is an awful f***ing baseball player. Someone we all wanted cut at the ASB last year. Now he is the future. Great. seriously...
  24. man... this sucks. I always loved AJ through thick and thin...
