QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 7, 2012 -> 10:32 AM) What opposite candidate? You are locked into a this or that system. Me voting for Stein in cook county gave Romney zero boost whatsoever. None. It did however boost the support financially for one of the more viable third parties. well not ZERO. popular vote still matters in the framing of the election

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 7, 2012 -> 10:27 AM) so why are you saying what you're saying to people living in Indiana and Illinois? These states were secure for each candidate. because... this is the message board i frequent?
-
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Nov 7, 2012 -> 10:26 AM) THAT point is view is more logical, yes. But it doesn't apply to most states. I think putting your voice into the system, even if it's "wasted" sends a message of protest. Yes, I used my vote to protest. I thought that was the point of the system...the point of having a voice, even if it's a small one. it literally just means we value two different things. you value your individual voice and opinion and the future over the good of the whole right NOW. there's merit to both, but the one thing that I won't back down on is that a vote for a third party candidate gives the opposite candidate a little boost.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 7, 2012 -> 10:24 AM) This is pretty much how I see it. i was also just about to type that in response to Rock

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Nov 7, 2012 -> 10:21 AM) A vote for a 3rd party candidate is not wasted. Just like a vote for Mit Romney was not wasted last night, despite him losing. You have a twisted vision of our voting system. But I get it. So long as everyone votes exactly like you, their vote isn't wasted. Yes, logic. that's not at all what i said.
-
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Nov 7, 2012 -> 10:18 AM) First you need to be logical before people can see your logic. You aren't being that. Northside pointed out your hypocrisy pretty well, too. disagree.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 7, 2012 -> 09:53 AM) You can't out of one side of your mouth say you want out of the two-party system, and say out the other side that a vote for a 3rd party is wasted. If you want other parties or independents to have greater voice, then you need to support them when a candidate appears that better matches your beliefs. yes... you can... because you're a pragmatist who sees the greater good. my views line up with Jill Stein's, and I would've voted for her if she had a chance in hell, but it's MORE important for me to have a president in office whose views align more closely with mine. how are you all not getting this?

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Nov 7, 2012 -> 09:49 AM) Someone on my Facebook wants to move to Europe now that Obama won. Uh.. I just don't have the heart to tell them. it's amazing. they wanna move to canada too... pretty hilarious how dumb some people are.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 7, 2012 -> 10:10 AM) It would not have been. I would have written in someone sooner than vote for Romney. And if Steve Bartman hadn't reached for that ball, the Cubs would have won it all! lol ok. see this is the reason this country is so divided. people like you won't see logic and reason if it smacks them in the face.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 7, 2012 -> 10:00 AM) Someone else closer to my point of view. lol exactly. and that person would have been Romney whether you want to admit it to me or not. Here's the reality. There will NOT be a viable third party until a candidate comes along who has the same "rock star" persona of Obama in 2012. Ron Paul is the closest to that right now. Had he run as a third party candidate this time around, I bet he would've been really close to 5% Until the green party gets a candidate like that, it does NOT make sense to vote for them, because a vote for a green party candidate is taking a vote AWAY from the democratic candidate, who aligns CLOSER with my views than the alternative - which is the republican candidate. Thus, a green vote, helps the republican party. See how that works yet? Or is it still too simple for you to understand?
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 7, 2012 -> 09:54 AM) That is the same kind of simple interpretation of election that lead people to believe that Steve Bartman cause the Cubs to lose the World Series. hahaha nope. tell me. if Johnson hadn't been on the ballot, who would you most likely have voted for?

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Nov 7, 2012 -> 09:08 AM) The worst part is, from what I know of him, Reddy is a good guy...as are most people here. But this attitude that unless you vote for a D or R (or a winner), is wasting your vote is absurd to me...and unless he was kidding, I find it kind of sad. I've been having this debate with Jill Stein supporters for a while. what it comes down to is what's more important? your ideological principles, or the greater good. I would absolutely LOVE to get out from the two party system, but the only way for that to happen, is if a third party candidate is someone like Ron Paul who has a huge personality, is loud, and forces his or her way into the national discussion. the problem with most third party candidates is that theyre too damned reserved and nice, and play by the rules. As for your vote not mattering, essentially, a vote for a third party candidate is, at this point, a vote for the candidate who you disagree with the most. a libertarian vote is a vote for Bam and a Green vote for Romney. Thems just the facts.
-
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Nov 7, 2012 -> 08:29 AM) I believe he needed 5%. I also voted for Gary Johnson. how's it feel to waste your vote?

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Nov 7, 2012 -> 01:40 AM) Who exactly is the boogeyman? i assume he's referencing latinos

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 7, 2012 -> 12:42 AM) Marriage equality passes in Washington State! good. night.

QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 7, 2012 -> 12:37 AM) Any estimation as to when Obama will speak? i hope he does it BEFORE romney. it would send a helluva message. unfortunately he's too nice.
-
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 7, 2012 -> 12:35 AM) Now that this godforsaken election is over, I fully expect all the loudmouths who claimed they would move out of the country if their guy wasn't elected to pack their bags and leave. Or, you know, they can nut up and shut up and just deal with this "abomination" (Obama Nation), as they'd probably call it. Barack Obama is our president again, and you are an American. Support him or get out. word.
-
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Nov 7, 2012 -> 12:20 AM) Well, anyway, I have to go eat some frozen yoghurt and go to sleep shortly thereafter. Three cheers for Obama, the President of the United States. Whether you stood with him or against him...stand by him now. He's my your our President. Respect that. To everyone who believes their guy won, congratulations. To everyone who thinks their guy was cheated, grow up and respect the office. Goodnight!

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Nov 7, 2012 -> 12:17 AM) I actually don't know...I wonder if anyone here could shed some light on this. Personally, I think ALL drugs should be completely legalized. Enough of this black market s*** that kills more people than the drugs do. well that's a poor idea.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Nov 7, 2012 -> 12:06 AM) I stand corrected. Maryland contains people that are not ignorant f***ing dumbasses. Too bad the other 49 states do. Maine just did too!
-
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Nov 7, 2012 -> 12:01 AM) Rejected and no. People are still dumb. Maryland voted to legalize gay marriage. First state to do so by popular vote.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Nov 6, 2012 -> 11:46 PM) Practically everyone on this site made the same exact predictions. *sigh*
-
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Nov 6, 2012 -> 11:37 PM) Shut up with the Nate Silver s***, guys, seriously. Practically everyone witha brain predicted Obama. Stop pretending this guy is smarter than everyone else that said the same exact thing. he is smarter... his polling models are pretty much perfect
-
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Nov 6, 2012 -> 11:32 PM) I thought he predicted 313 or something like it. he listed 332 as the most likely result. scroll down: http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/

the real winner tonight? Nate Silver. predicted 332 as most likely result. Obama's gonna get? 332.
