QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 9, 2012 -> 08:53 PM) Gotta start somewhere, Brad Pitt held up signs for Polo Loco. this is true!

thanks. yeah i auditioned yesterday for the casting director, got the call today, and am going in again tomorrow to audition for the executive producer/lead writer/creator Terence Winter very small part - a paraplegic WW1 vet - but damn if that wouldn't be awesome.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 9, 2012 -> 03:55 PM) This would actually have been a real awful week to just "Skip his start" because we not only didn't have Mr. Offday, we had a double header. Skipping a start this week means a ton of roster moves and means something is seriously wrong with a guy. which is... what... we did...

I just got a callback for Boardwalk Empire. soooo f***ing cool!
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 9, 2012 -> 01:32 PM) But he was supposed to start on Sunday. If that's skipped, you have to say something. If he goes on the DL which some are advocating, you have to say something. DL stints are typical. Putting your BEST YOUNG STARTER in the bullpen out of the blue is atypical.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 9, 2012 -> 01:25 PM) They did their "due dilligence", and here's where you are wrong. If they say nothing and Sale misses his start or goes on the DL and they again say nothing, how exactly is helping his "trade value"? Silence would have only made the speculation worse. there was no speculation prior to our announcement.
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 9, 2012 -> 01:13 PM) ... Screaming in ALL CAPS, saying that a move to protect his arm is "a horrible, horrible decision in every baseball sense", suggesting doing a quick trade of a guy with an arm issue, and somehow miraculously knowing they need 15 days... you're kind of making my point for me. it was only all caps because fathom and i have been banging our heads against a wall saying the same thing for days. i'm just saying we didn't do our due diligence in assessing the situation completely before making a press statement about it. that's it. you honestly disagree with that statement? hell Chris didn't even know this was a possibility till they laid it on him.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 9, 2012 -> 01:54 PM) WHY DL HIM IF YOU DON"T NEED 15 DAYS TO FIGURE EVERYTHING OUT? um... we obviously DO need 15 days...
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 9, 2012 -> 02:01 PM) Obviously you have no scruples and would trade Sale if you thought he was hurt and would do everything you could to keep that information from your trading partner. Pulling crap like that gets you into a lot of trouble like getting the Mariners Jesus Montero?
  10. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 9, 2012 -> 01:30 PM) Please tell me you don't think this trade will take us to the top? it would be an exceptional trade for us. Youk is an .850-.900 OPS guy and we'd be giving up, what? one of our 400 lefty relievers? you do that every day of the week if it were actually possible.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 9, 2012 -> 01:40 PM) You have no idea what is going on in the training room. How can you classify it as good, bad, or anything? PLUS. Chris was just as confused and blindsided as we were. That doesn't seem right to me.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 9, 2012 -> 01:40 PM) You have no idea what is going on in the training room. How can you classify it as good, bad, or anything? SO DL HIM WHILE YOU FIGURE EVERYTHING OUT! don't just publicize to the world "hey we think his arm's gonna fall off!"
  13. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 9, 2012 -> 01:17 PM) Ranger just said that Cooper told him, on-air, that it was permanent for the rest of the season... a few days ago. That's the smoking gun I was looking for. So while the reactions on here and in some parts of the media are still hilariously overreactive, it appears it is true that the Sox gave one signal earlier, and are giving another now. I was wrong on that one. will you stop. it's not a hilarious overreaction to say that taking our starter of the future and putting him permanently in the bullpen without a DL stint, MRI, or looking to trade him, was a horrible, horrible decision in every baseball sense.
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 9, 2012 -> 11:25 AM) I love PTATC Secondly, if it is his UCL, let him f***ing tear it while he's in his early 20's to get it out of the way now IMO. Maybe thats the wrong way to think but if you want the kid to have a career, shielding him from a predictable starter's load doesnt seem smart to me. The kid is an excellent starting pitcher as well, very valuable. agreed one thousand percent
  15. what an idiot. can we change the thread title. Youk is a 900 OPS guy for a middle reliever? gimme a break
  16. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 9, 2012 -> 09:53 AM) I was thinking someone who makes decisions, but that's definitely from "The Sox", you are right. Sale seemed to think, at least in the heat of the moment, it wasn't happening this year. and it means someone who makes the decisions gave him that impression... so he was operating with the same info as we and the beat reporters were. i'd say the reactions have been appropriate.
  17. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 9, 2012 -> 09:47 AM) Guys, look at what is happening with the other members of the bullpen...the elephant in the room is ADDISON REED. I think they finally realize they need to turn the closer role, permanently, over to Reed. Which means Sale is going to be a setup man and now there are 4 lefties in the pen until they do the smart thing and send Santiago back down. Sale is not going to be happy as a setup man, and neither is Kenny, since it reduces his trade value. They are trying to figure out what makes Sale the most valuable not only to the Sox, but also to other organizations, as well as what will keep him from blowing his elbow out and keeping him happy. And Chris's agent is obviously going to tell him that priority one is starting and two is closing...those are the two positions which will maximize his earning capacity. But now the closing role is being taken by someone else...so where does that leave us...back to starting... if they cared about preserving Sale's value on the market, they'd never have DONE this to begin with. they destroyed his value by waving a big red flag and pointing at Chris' elbow.
  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 9, 2012 -> 09:39 AM) WHAT QUOTES? No one has posted a quote from the SOX (not a writer's tweeted interperetation) that says its permanent. If someone finds one, great. Show me. All I've said from the beginning is, I have yet to see that. The ONE QUOTE that talks about permanence or not, from the Sox, is the Cooper one saying "never say never" and "for now", which clearly say nothing of permanent. "Some can and some can't," Sale said. "I wouldn't say I can't, but this year just isn't in the cards."
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 9, 2012 -> 09:39 AM) This was the only way Chris Sale was going to be a member of this organization. He wanted top 3 draft pick money. The only thing that changed his mind was the chance to prove himself at the major league level, and to start his free agent/arb clock ASAP. The Sox weren't going over slot for him, which means they weren't going to draft him without this compromise. also, re: starters coming up as relievers, see Buerhle, Mark
  20. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 9, 2012 -> 09:35 AM) Its definitely confusing if you look at it on the surface: Sale is a starter when drafted, he comes up as a reliever with the Sox, they say he's going to start in 2012 and does, then they say he's back to the bullpen. To me, the criticism here shouldn't be about putting him in the bullpen at this point, since it obviously is needed to save his arm. I also fail to see how its bad that the Sox are attempting to do something other than have him go from 70 straight to 200 innings - I think that only make sense, and so does this move. The criticism I have is that they made him a reliever at all, if they wanted him to start. That is what caused all this. That all said, I still think the media, and many here, ran with an interperetation they made, and that the confusion is purely in the swirling media/fanbase talk. Unless, that is, someone can show me where the Sox said definitively that the move to the bullpen was permanent. you just keep ignoring the quotes. or do you not feel that "rest of season" = permanent.
  21. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 9, 2012 -> 09:27 AM) I think the media had a hard time deciphering what was going on, and tried to interperet things into an absolute. Sports media doesn't do grey very well, they need black and white. But the Sox clearly were not thinking in absolutes on this. right they're jerking this kid back and forth just like the yanks did with Joba.
  22. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 9, 2012 -> 09:21 AM) Well, Merkin is certainly all over the place with that tweet: It's a never say never sort of attitude on Sale returning to the rotation, but he will be closer for the rest of 2012 at the least WTF does that even mean? He contradicted himself in the same sentence. it means he's in the bullpen for 2012 but may have a shot at the rotation in the future. not that tough to glean. and yeah... the high and mighty thing... not a good look on you.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 7, 2012 -> 07:23 PM) Technically the Rays have also made the playoffs 3 times in the last 20 years as well. Oh, and 4 times for the Sox. 93, 00, 05, 08, and would have in 94 had there been no strike. cept the rays were an expansion team... and haven't EXISTED for 20 years...
  24. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 7, 2012 -> 05:17 PM) Whoa whoa whoa, I never ripped the program. If anything I'm extremely impressed with it, and I use certain aspects of it in my workouts, and as I said, I use Ab Ripper X almost daily. We get that you love the program. What you don't seem to understand is that it is not the holy grail of exercise. Again, it's "silly" to you, but clearly that is a pretty popular opinion of video workouts. You asked for feedback, we're giving it to you. Take feedback and use it constructively, don't try to persuade others that it's wrong. There is no right or wrong. It's a great program, NO ONE will ever say otherwise. I like some aspects of it, I dislike others. You must not have read all my subsequent posts.
  25. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ May 7, 2012 -> 02:21 PM) well, for the last week at least...
