Chris Sale is now the CLOSER?!/Until he's not (Update)
Reddy replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 6, 2012 -> 04:46 PM) Its being assumed that there is nothing that needs fixing now, but if they continue on the same path, something real bad will happen. He might still get hurt, but its probably safe to assume his chances of avoiding the knife is best served coming out of the bullpen. The White Sox have more information than we have. They also would rather have Sale as a starter than reliever. They didn't make this decision on a whim. They very much DID make this decision on a whim. They could've DL'd him and had 2 weeks to talk about it!!! lol -

QUOTE (jamesdiego @ May 6, 2012 -> 02:52 PM) I don't think the book is just yet closed on Strasburg, we'll see how long he can last. Found a really good article breaking down Strasburg's mechanics and Tommy John surgery. Rizzo doesn't believe his mechanics caused his injury and are not gonna change anything. Verducci brought up other pitchers with mechanic issues who had TJS Read more: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/writ...l#ixzz1u7nj1Pvb I don't think it's a given Sale can come back from TJS without any future issues without working on his mechanics. totally. it's obviously not a GIVEN, but my opinion the risk of an injury is worth taking if the benefit is having an ace starter. he could still blow out his arm as a closer. -
QUOTE (Jake @ May 6, 2012 -> 02:53 PM) WHAT? god this team confuses the f*** out of me...
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 6, 2012 -> 03:47 PM) I've seen enough of Axelrod. this is also ridiculous. he pitched fine.

QUOTE (Jake @ May 6, 2012 -> 03:28 PM) You just don't intentionally waste a year plus of a pitcher's career in hopes that he will come back from the injury better than before. Too much risk involved, not to mention you are getting a year or more of zero production from that player. You also don't usually change a pitcher's mechanics at this point in his career, you take a huge risk of ending their effectiveness. He is what he is. then why do you intentionally waste a dude's entire potential career as an ace starter on a hunch? lets see... 40 innings a year or 200... which is more valuable...? at this point in his career? he's 23... there are pitchers who have changed their mechanics in their 30s. see Fatolo and Freddy Garcia. you hear of guys changing their arm slots all the time. -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 6, 2012 -> 03:19 PM) Through 12 f***ing innings. If he strikes out the side in his next outing, he's right back to 9 K/9. I mean, I'm pissed about Sale too. It's stupid and there are so many reasons I'm upset. You don't have to take it out on Matt Thornton. He's just fine. i mean i agree. i think he's great as a set up guy, always has been, always will be. now having Sale just makes it so damn crowded back there. it's stupid.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 6, 2012 -> 02:58 PM) I don't know where you get your information that TJ surgery is no big deal and everyone comes back stronger for it and isn't subject to the same injury occurring again. See Liriano, Francisco for one. If it were true, teams would have pitchers undergo the surgery the day they were signed. you've got liriano, i'll raise you a stephen strasburg, erik bedard, chris capuano, chris carpenter, jaime garcia, tim hudson, phil humber, Izzy, josh johnson, shaun marcum, jamie moyer, john smoltz, billy wagner, edinson volquez, CJ wilson, jordan zimmermann, brian wilson, ryan voglesong. -

QUOTE (knightni @ May 6, 2012 -> 03:12 PM) Wainwright is struggling coming off of TJ. 7.0 7 1 1 1 7 line today. he'll get it together. he's just rusty. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 6, 2012 -> 03:16 PM) 8 for his last 17 coming in to today, 2 HR. but he does things like that.
-
that's something you don't like hearing. "it's up to beckham"
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 6, 2012 -> 03:11 PM) You've forgotten. This is a game thread. Every action described during a game thread represents exactly what that hitter/pitcher will do during every other outing every other point in their career. gah. i'm sorry i forgot.

QUOTE (God Loves The Infantry @ May 6, 2012 -> 03:09 PM) The guy has given up five homeruns in ten innings. He's not a major league pitcher. maybe not at this juncture. but the kid is not garbage by any stretch.
-
QUOTE (God Loves The Infantry @ May 6, 2012 -> 03:03 PM) A starter?! This guy is barely functional in basic relief. We have no need for him on our team anymore, anywhere. He's garbage. I'm at the point where I'm ready to root for him to fail each and every time to get the point across. He needs to go away. that's ridiculous.

QUOTE (jamesdiego @ May 6, 2012 -> 01:09 PM) I completely understand the reason for people being very disappointed with the Sale news. But what I don't understand the theory that the Sox brass are only doing this only to stabilize the closer situation. Or that some feel this is just a bad option the Sox are taking, that they don't really have to do this. At this point, I think the Sox feel that there is no other option. I will keep faith in Herm, Coop's and the rest of the Sox brass knowledge and opinion here. I'm sure there is some more info to this than we know, but I believe they are telling the truth in that they feel Sale is doomed to injuring himself very soon as a starter. It's just ridiculous to suggest that the Sox would not prefer to have Sale being their darling ace of the future. They just feel he can't. I don't fault them one bit for thinking that Now I would be very pissed if they don't try and change Sale's mechanics some so he may have another shot at starting in the future. they don't feel he can without risking injury. my feeling is that if you have to build up arm strength by risking injury, then so be it. if you lose a year Chris Sale to TJ surgery with the benefit having 10 more years of dominant post-TJ pitching, you take it. Every time. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 6, 2012 -> 12:54 PM) Secretly he wants Stewart to get hit hard so he can rip KW, lol. As it is now, it's hard to even notice he's on the team or get anyone all worked up about him. someone earlier said you were posting like a pregnant woman and it's true... you've been b****ing about KW non-stop yourself. what a weird post.

QUOTE (Jake @ May 6, 2012 -> 12:29 PM) Got away with one there, but overall Axelrod's done pretty well today. I'm pleased, he is beyond his years. Weird looking face though i know. i want my baseball players to be at least decent looking.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ May 6, 2012 -> 01:05 PM) Are you mad you read my Game of Thrones spoiler and it ruined the books for you? are you 12?

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ May 6, 2012 -> 12:02 PM) Italics denote lack of caring. Bold denotes, Have I? pretty sure you caused an entire thread to be shut down so it could get "cleaned up"

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ May 6, 2012 -> 11:44 AM) sorry man, i didn't realize part of sox fandom was being a baby and being a pessimist who says every move the sox make sucks. my bad you obviously have not read any of my posts over the last 8 years i've posted here. i was getting ripped for being too optimistic a week ago. you showed up two days ago and have been flaming people and inciting arguments left and right

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ May 6, 2012 -> 11:40 AM) With the mood the way it is, 92 becomes 89. If we start going good and everyone's happy 92 becomes 95. It's the way of the internet. sorry man, i didn't realize part of sox fandom was being a homer who supports every move the sox make. my bad

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ May 6, 2012 -> 11:37 AM) http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/p...id=molina001nes Seems that he is not pitching as bad as some have made it be on this forum? And his control apparently is there. Unless Axelrod is pinpoint he's going to get shellacked 3.72 era in AA is not super great. the jury's out
-
QUOTE (Baron @ May 6, 2012 -> 11:32 AM) Molina lollerz. all this talk of not wanting to rush guys - he's been in AA for a month and has a 3.72 ERA. consider me not quite sold.
-
QUOTE (Baron @ May 6, 2012 -> 11:29 AM) Not if he plays poorly who else we got?
-
QUOTE (Jake @ May 6, 2012 -> 11:21 AM) Sorry about the game thread guys, go Dunn! lost track of game start time it's your fault
