  1. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 6, 2012 -> 12:09 PM) Not a good idea...the Yankees are one of the teams that are willing to take on contracts. nah, if the yanks have a need and the mariners can help them with it, they'll still talk. it would be even dumber not to.
  2. QUOTE (MAX @ May 6, 2012 -> 11:06 AM) I added him to my fantasy team for a spot start. Hope he picks up where he left off last year. that must be a hella deep league... axelrod against the tigers? scary.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ May 6, 2012 -> 10:51 AM) Cubs just DFA'd DeWitt. Give me him over Escobar as a back-up 2b/3b or over morel. jeez.
  4. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 6, 2012 -> 11:05 AM) Sorry couldn't wait any longer. Maybe Axlerod gives us hope for the Sale situation. i sure as hell hope so
  5. QUOTE (MAX @ May 6, 2012 -> 11:03 AM) I think so. I know he won the recent poll on who should take over for santiago. My point is that a lot of posters take issue with kenny's foresight, saying he is wrong for everything in the world, even though its yet to be determined if he is wrong or even behind the move. Then in hindsight they say what happened, certainly happened because kenny did something, even though we don't know if that is the reason it happened, or if he was even behind the move. Its giving me a headache. i've been a huge kenny williams supporter. i've never been one of those who likes to bash him at every turn. if the search function worked i could prove that, or you could look it up. however, at this juncture, a huge mistake is being made.
  6. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 6, 2012 -> 10:59 AM) When do you think Cashman will be interested in dealing with Seattle again? who cares they got Jesus Montero
  7. QUOTE (MAX @ May 6, 2012 -> 10:56 AM) I mean no offense, but if Reed failed, posters such as yourself would likely be complaining that kenny (the devil) rushed him into the closers role. versus that kid from A ball? what was his name?
  8. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ May 6, 2012 -> 10:50 AM) What should they have done, DL him with an "oblique strain?" This team doesn't operate like that. Sale still has value because he still has upside. There's a team out there that thinks they can fix him. There's a team out there that will give value to have a potentially dominant closer. We'll know in a couple months how valuable he is. hahaha no other team has Don Cooper. They realize that if Coop can't fix him, no one can. and he doesn't have upside as a reliever. there's a reason he fell to us at 13th in the draft. mechanics, frame, injury concerns.
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 6, 2012 -> 10:44 AM) You posted yesterday that closers aren't valuable. Now they are wasting Reed not using him as a closer. closers are not worth the money they get. how many have already gone down or lost their closing spot this year alone? it's in the double digits already. literally any shortstop can become a closer. however, if you've got a guy playing for the minimum who's pitching lights out, given up no runs with an 11 k/9 - your BEST reliever - why not make him the closer and leave your best starter in the rotation? to have him stay as a set-up guy does strike me as a waste when you look at all the other potential around him.
  10. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ May 6, 2012 -> 10:46 AM) That's part of what I'm saying, it's fluid. A week ago this board would have been in full meltdown if we traded Sale for Montero straight up. If Kenny decides to move Sale at the deadline, he might get a king's ransom. I wouldn't be shocked. Let's wait and see. he WONT because we already told the world "HEY THIS KID HAS A MECHANICAL FLAW AND HIS ELBOW HURTS" how are we gonna get a kings ransom for THAT?
  11. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 6, 2012 -> 10:43 AM) I agree...but let's see what we have first before we chalk all those games up as losses...
  12. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 6, 2012 -> 10:43 AM) I agree...but let's see what we have first before we chalk all those games up as losses... totally. i'm just saying, a lot of the prospects we rotated through the 4th/5th starter spots were also considered "decent prospects" just like the guys we have now. every one of our potential rookie starters next year still has glaring issues that need to be worked out. Sale was the closest thing we had to a cant-miss prospect since Gordon Beckham. ruh roh.
  13. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ May 6, 2012 -> 10:40 AM) Having depth is a good thing. Why can't they trade Sale or Reed? I still think Sale has a ton of value. Teams overspend for relievers all the time. There's a team out there who would go crazy for a 23 year old lefty reliever that throws 100 and might possibly become a starter. We're 1 month into a rebuild. Give it some time. but you're not getting Jesus Montero like you could have a couple days ago. The Pineda situation mirrors this PERFECTLY. A team that saw a flaw, unloaded the guy, and walked away looking like a genius.
  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 6, 2012 -> 10:41 AM) I respect Caufield. But go look at his posts over the course of the last two weeks or so...he's like a pregnant woman right now. this is my point. maybe there's a reason.
  15. QUOTE (MAX @ May 6, 2012 -> 10:40 AM) Why are people acting as if resigning either Floyd or Peavy or *gasps* another one of the dozens of free agent pitchers out there is impossible? True. You could spend a lot of money on a marquee free agent even though you've got Sale at the minimum. Yep. You could do that. We all know how well Kenny's signings pan out.
  16. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 6, 2012 -> 10:38 AM) I don't think anyone is happy about it...I think some of us are trying to point out that this shouldn't make or break the entire team... one more spot in the rotation for a felix diaz, danny wright, or jon rauch CAN make or break a team. that's a lotta losses.
  17. also. caulfield knows more about baseball than 90% of this board, me included. if he's freaking out - i think it's legit. just sayin.
  18. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ May 6, 2012 -> 10:37 AM) How are they wasting Reed? He was drafted 2 freaking years ago. He's way ahead of schedule. So far, we've gotten more production from that draft than any team in baseball that didn't draft Bryce Harper. he's obviously a closer. what the f*** is the point in having two ace closers?
  19. QUOTE (Tex @ May 6, 2012 -> 10:26 AM) Correct. Of course not many people would like to think about how nice it will be if it works out. can you paint the scenario where it works out for 2013? jeez guys i love the white sox as much as anyone here - people were literally b****ing that i was being TOO POSITIVE a week ago. but i just don't see how some of you can see this as anything but a negative in the short and long term - we now have two vacant starter spots going into next year. - we're wasting Addison Reed - we can't trade Sale now - relievers blow out their arms too (see Brian Wilson) - we don't have a deep enough minor league system to trade for good starters or develop them in time for next year i guess i just felt given the positive results this team was getting this year, that we could viably compete both this and next year. maybe not for the WS, but easily the division. now we've at the very least given up on next year. this year we've still got a decent rotation, but if both Floyd and Peavy depart, we're left with an ugly set of circumstances come 2013. did the nats turn strasburg into a closer because he was an injury risk?
  20. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 6, 2012 -> 09:49 AM) Over the course of the past 7 years or so, when has starting pitching ever been the problem for the White Sox? were you around for 02, 03 and 04?
  21. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 6, 2012 -> 09:56 AM) because it isnt impossible. Just a change of direction. but it is HARDER than it was 2 days ago! jesus
  22. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 6, 2012 -> 09:35 AM) Of course you dont, you think they are done for a long time. I think they will remain competitive, throughout this season and into the future. It isnt hard to understand, you just dont want to WHY
  23. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 6, 2012 -> 10:20 AM) That still doesnt change the fact that talent can be acquired. And the Jury is still out on Peavy. Obviously he has a lot of ground to make up, but his start has been nothing short of awesome. i honestly dont think Jackson was that bad either, he had some really stellar starts Plus, there have been diamonds in the rough like Loaiza, Contreras, and Humber that have shown up and provided some really good innings for the Sox. My point is there is a lot of "OMG we are done forever and it will never get better" posts that are all based on the decision to move Sale to the bullpen right now. It hasnt been decided for the duration of his career, just right now. And who knows, maybe there is an about face on Sale and he comes back to the rotation sooner than we think. the white sox are looking at sale as their permanent closer. permanent. not starting. he spent this WHOLE OFFSEASON preparing to start, and the sox brass still wasn't ok with it. what's he gonna have to do to change their mind? There's nothing he CAN do. This is his new job. He's never starting again. If he DID, we'd be having a Joba Chamberlain situation, and we know what happened there.
