  1. and how did Jackson and Vazquez turn out for us? and i seem to recall a lot of b****ing about peavy (and it taking 3 years for him to turn in any good results) listen, maybe the sky isn't falling, maybe we'll be competitive, i don't know. all i'm SAYING is that the path to competitiveness is now MORE DIFFICULT than it was two days ago. ALL I'M SAYING is that this was a horribly handled situation, and you cannot argue that. If a kid has injury potential, don't TELL THE WORLD about it by doing something so drastic like this, completely destroying his trade value. You've literally taken yourself from having a plethora of options with the kid (start him, DL him, bullpen, trade) and now having no other option besides having him in the bullpen. How can anyone say that ISN'T a horrible business decision?
  2. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 6, 2012 -> 08:23 AM) I dont know Marty, it is really hard to tell within this large vacuum that everyone is making predictions from we have no minor league system from which to cultivate two starting pitchers we have no minor league system from which to deal for two starting pitchers we have no major league pieces with friendly enough contracts to deal for two starting pitchers we have absolutely zero track record on drafting decent players, and even if we did, that would be a couple years off. the reality is, we're not going to be competitive for the next couple years. and that bums me out.
  3. So lemme get this straight. We're going to continue on with Hector Santiago in our bullpen. Addison Reed in our bullpen. Chris Sale in our bullpen. and Zach Stewart in our bullpen. who the f*** is starting for us next year? Danks, Humber, Axelrod, ________, _________ if the plan were going to be either one of Stewart and Santiago, why the f*** haven't they already been sent down to work as starters? I hate everything about white sox baseball right now.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 5, 2012 -> 09:31 AM) Matt Thornton can't miss bats? The stats prove otherwise, but you are on a roll. his K/9 this year is at a career low. so... the stats DONT prove otherwise, and it is you, sir, who is on a roll.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 5, 2012 -> 09:57 AM) So the season is lost now? Last I checked they aren't 10 GB. Apparently you are in the mode of trading everyone when their value is "peak". That's a nice way to build a team that will never win because your organization will be full of guys who aren't playing as well as they should because you would have rid yourself of all the "peak performers". To expect this roster to win is silly. Stranger things have happened and they still have a shot, but expecting it is just someone trying to be pissed off. lets be clear. they do NOT have a shot with Sale in the bullpen.
  6. so i'm honestly in a state of shock and mourning at this. i really haven't ever been this upset about sports before in my life. it's weird. but it's because we had hope of replacing a guy like buehrle with a phenom kid like chris sale, and with this one single move we've now taken ourselves out of contention not only for this year but for the foreseeable future. as someone posted earlier, a rotation of Danks, Humber, Axelrod, Stewart, Santiago, Molina (take your pick) puts us on the level of Kansas City or Minnesota or Houston or any other bottom dweller team. It's just depressing. and with OUR anemic offense, mediocre pitching like that is too much of a challenge to overcome.
  7. QUOTE (Jake @ May 5, 2012 -> 09:30 AM) Since we're going to talk about Kenny Williams as if he's never made a good move, let's just go ahead and mention all the good moves so we remember that he's actually done some good. Aaron Rowand, Gio Gonzalez for Jim Thome Freddy Garcia for Gavin Floyd, Gio Gonzalez Chris Carter for Carlos Quentin Esteban Loaiza signing Esteban Loaiza for Jose Contreras Joe Borchard for Matt Thornton Chris Sale draft pick Signings in 2005 - AJ Pierzysnki, Jermaine Dye, Tadahito Iguchi, Bobby Jenks Extending Paul Konerko 2x Brandon McCarthy for John Danks Alexei Ramirez signing Phil Humber signing TBD: Dunn signing Peavy trade (didn't lose much), especially if insurance payouts were had Quentin trade (injured, who would guess that) Ozzie Guillen compensation players? (lol, not entirely serious) this is all I can remember off the top of my head. There are some non-moves, like non-tendering Jenks, that stick out as well of course he's done some good, but the position we're in, right now, in 2012, is also entirely his fault.
  8. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 5, 2012 -> 09:09 AM) I think Taylor's got the MLB draft confused with the NFL draft. this
  9. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ May 5, 2012 -> 09:07 AM) Are you serious? How many teams draft based on what they'll have in the majors 2 years down the line? They probably do what most teams do and draft the best player available. You don't draft on "need" in baseball, development is too fluid. that's the point of a draft. 2 or more years down the line. 10. QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 5, 2012 -> 09:00 AM) With due respect, I don't think it is worth pointing out. The White Sox are privy to information specific to their organization's short and long-term plans that no expert or message board poster commenting on the pick has. For instance, did they make Reed a reliever because they figured they had Sale as a future starter in their hip-pocket? holy f*** i agree with you
  11. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ May 5, 2012 -> 07:06 AM) You want KW to hide the problem, run the kid out there and further risk ruining his career, and then, trade damaged goods. Great f***ing idea. Step away from the computer, dude. you have no idea how baseball works.
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 5, 2012 -> 07:04 AM) The Sox can have Sale close and Reed work in the 7th and 8th innings. You're making no sense BTW. You claim the Sox need Sale in the rotation to be any good, yet you seem more concerned with what other teams would be interested in giving up to acquire him. Who cares what other teams value him at? Closers are extremely valuable. The giant RED FLAG would have been Chris Sale undergoing surgery. this is the opposite of true. the very. complete. opposite. of. true.
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 5, 2012 -> 06:56 AM) Stone went over this last night. As a starter he throws 4 or 5 different pitches. He really only needs to throw 2 as a closer. Its hard to understand how people can be up in arms the White Sox have decided to protect one of their players. Doesn't everyone realize the White Sox would rather keep him in the rotation and have him throw 200 innings every year? The bottom line is they don't think, like many other teams thought, he'll be able to hold up, and pushing it to find out for sure could ruin the kid's career. Let him be a great closer. Its not a wasted draft pick. hahahaha this MAKES HIM A WASTED DRAFT PICK! you don't draft closers in the first damn round and rush them to the major leagues. you just don't. and if all those other teams saw it and Kenny Williams DIDN'T, well then he deserves to be gone. Last straw, camels back, all that. and you know what? TJ surgery wouldn't ruin his career. go take a look at mr. Strasburg's stats and get back to me.
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 5, 2012 -> 06:40 AM) While we're at it, we might as well take the Pujols contract from the Angels. We wouldn't want CJ Wilson. i wouldn't put it past our joke of a GM. yep. I've been a KW supporter all along, but I'm done with it. He needs to be gone. Reinsdorf needs to be gone. We need to blow it up. Yes, the sky is falling.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 4, 2012 -> 10:37 PM) "Some can and some can't," Sale said of the transition. "I wouldn’t say that I can't, but this year it’s not in the cards. It’s something I’d like to get back to doing. Sounds pretty darned definitive that this is not just a temporary situation. Maybe he's been talking to his family and they suggested he do something before he suffered the same fate as Peavy. you mean the best pitcher in the AL this year?
  16. this is the first time, in my 15 years of sox fan-dom, that i'm officially angry and pissed at the management. it's an idiotic decision from every standpoint. You think they moved Strasburg to the pen because of injury concerns? No. They let him get hurt, fixed it, and now he's super strasburg. If that had to happen with Sale so be it. We're not competing this and next year ANYWAY. Moving him to the pen destroys whatever value he had, because now what do we do with Reed? Waste HIM as a set up guy? Relievers are a dime a dozen. Ace starters to replace your face of the franchise guy who just left don't come along very often. And lastly if you KNEW he was prone to injury, why not TRADE THE f***ER instead of destroy his value like this? You could've gotten a HAUL for Chris Sale, but no. This organization is run by a bunch of idiots, and now I'm really not interested in watching us this year and especially next year. The return of Danny Wright.

    2012 Book Thread

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ May 4, 2012 -> 10:12 AM) Yeah, I kind of said those things in jest. I thought people might catch on. My fault. i was actually really pissed for a second because they did NOT happen in the fourth book and i thought you'd ruined those plotlines for me. be more careful...
  18. i've now combined your shredded shoulder workout with this chest-killer, to give myself a nice day of doubles when I pair that with Kenpo or Yoga 3 moves, repeat for 3 sets, no breaks 1. max pushups 2. lying down dumbell flyes 3. lying down dumbell press Repeat. Repeat. So i do 1 set of the Shredded Shoulders, the whole 3 sets of the Chest-Killer, then 1 more set of Shoulders. brutal. and quick.

    2012 Book Thread

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ May 1, 2012 -> 10:34 PM) I'd read it. Even though it's slow, there are a lot of details that you'll need to know for some of the upcoming twists. You're going to miss out on a lot of Bran stuff and he's developing into a major character. As others said, the Ironborn and Dornish are playing a huge role now. IMO, Storm of Swords is like the final part of Act 1 and Feast of Crows is the beginning of Act 2. Also, there's a ton of s*** in the North you won't want to miss. Actually, just read the damn book. this is not true. none of these things happen in book 4.
  20. Come the f*** on guys. BECKHAM! SALE! BASICALLY EVERYBODY EXCEPT HECTOR! we won the friggin' game.
  21. QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 30, 2012 -> 07:49 AM) He's on my fantasy team and he's also on the Tigers, so yes, I do watch quite a few of his games....he just smoked a ball off Sabathia yesterday for a home run...he's fine..this is how he is...just wait...sooner or later he'll go crazy and hit 5 home runs in a week and you'll look up and he'll have an OPS over .900. this is true.
  22. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Apr 27, 2012 -> 10:32 PM) I tried. But him and Trout were taken. Hoping to snag Trevor Bauer soon. shhhhhh
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 28, 2012 -> 02:34 AM) Two run deficits, Guillen said, "feel like we're down 20." "That's how it feels like right now," Guillen said. "And I want to get that feeling out of this area." Asked if he might shake up the lineup, Guillen said he might -- but not because any one in particular is struggling. "You cannot lose confidence in those guys," Guillen said. "As soon as you start losing confidence and being negative, bad things happen. I always say you can't win a pennant race in the beginning, but you could lose a pennant race in the beginning. "We're not winning now. We've got to pick it up and play the game right, now. Believe me with the experience I have, I've been through it before. We have to keep fighting. If we had a bad club I would say it would be tough. But I know in my heart, my soul we have a good team. "You can lose confidence early in the season, or grow up and play better. But you're not going to play worse than this. We're not going to be worse than we are right now." Read more here: http://miamiherald.typepad.com/fish_bytes/...l#storylink=cpy this is LITERALLY an article from any one of the last few years with the sox. Verbatim.
