  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 22, 2012 -> 05:28 PM) If Rios or Dunn play their way to the point another team would take their contract KW shouls be willing to accept a minimal return. on Rios maybe. you hang onto Dunn.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 22, 2012 -> 05:20 PM) Which by definition means it's not just random baseball luck. You're now talking issues of physical and mental preparation. Yes coaching helps. Yes it can make small amounts of differences. But besides Coop and his pitchers, coaches don't usually make bad players into good players. I completely believe in the law of averages in baseball. looking at his career stats, the probability that he has a better season this year is VERY high, because decent ballplayers don't just turn into awful ballplayers. and for the last two seasons to even out into his career averages, he's probably going to be much better this year.
  3. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Apr 22, 2012 -> 03:58 PM) They're certainly likable. I'm even warming up to AJ. ... it took you 8 years?
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 22, 2012 -> 04:12 PM) Because the probability of each individual guy going from near all star level to worst in baseball by random luck is very low, out of the hundreds of thousands (millions?) of seasons in MLB history. So your chances of it happening to 1 guy randomly should be on the order of 1 in 100,000. The odds of it happening to 2 guys, independently, would be that number squared, so 1 in 100,000,000,000. The way to change that math is to have it not be independent/random. of course it's very low. but if the odds are 1 in a 100,000 (or whatever you decide the number is) and Adam Dunn had the worst season ever, then he WAS that ONE wasn't he? Rios was terrible, but i'd say his season wasn't as much a statistical anomaly based on the fact that he's always had streaks of awful.
  5. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Apr 22, 2012 -> 04:11 PM) There is still plenty of time for KW to get Figgins when he's like 38. lol truth.
  6. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Apr 22, 2012 -> 04:09 PM) God, you are annoying today. personal attack?
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 22, 2012 -> 04:06 PM) 2 separate guys don't go through 2 of teh worst 20 seasons with the bat in MLB history by normal random probability. why not?
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 22, 2012 -> 04:04 PM) Meanwhile, Alex Rios is all the way up to a .318 average. Who'd have thunk it? Manto has to get some credit there for stabilizing both Dunn and Rios from career freefalls. or it's the law of averages coming into effect. but, yeah, Manto too.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 22, 2012 -> 03:54 PM) Looked like he got a terrible jump and wasn't exactly running hard. he's adam dunn. he's not brent lillibridge. paulie would have been dead too. but who the f*** cares because TIE GAME!
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 22, 2012 -> 03:52 PM) Ugh, just one of those games. Dunn has been caught half-assing it on the bases far too much this year. uggghh i knowww people don't want me defending the sox, but how was that, in any way, adam dunn's fault?
  11. QUOTE (chiguy79 @ Apr 22, 2012 -> 03:50 PM) speaking for all of soxtalk, thank you.
  12. QUOTE (Baron @ Apr 22, 2012 -> 03:49 PM) Wrong...I simply said the defense wasnt the only problem. Im sorry that you couldnt see that. ok we're done.
  13. QUOTE (Baron @ Apr 22, 2012 -> 03:46 PM) Did I ever say that? You told me I wasnt watching the game when I said Danks wasnt pitching well. haha you were blaming that inning on danks. I blame that inning on the defense.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 22, 2012 -> 03:45 PM) Not really, again I don't know about the early season velocity last year, but Danks has had these stretches over and over in his career, and the worst of them was to open the season last year. exactly.
  15. QUOTE (Baron @ Apr 22, 2012 -> 03:44 PM) So now he isnt looking great? So I guess I do watch the games? is there a single point at which i said danks was pitching well?
  16. QUOTE (jeffro2525 @ Apr 22, 2012 -> 03:39 PM) Seattle has 7 hits. Six of those were scorched. I know your thing is defending everybody, but I don't think I'm being overly critical of a guy who has allowed 4 runs on 7 hits in four innings against a team that didn't even come close to getting a hit yesterday, and is one of the worst offensive teams in baseball. I'm not saying I want Danks hanged and quartered at the town square. I'm saying it would be nice if our number 1 starter could sport an ERA under 5.50 at this stage. Oh look...another walk. He has 3 of those too. haha listen man obviously danks isn't looking great. but he's had periods like this in every season of his career so far, and he still manages to string together solid seasons come the end of the year. I'm just saying lets back away from the ledge. he's in a rough patch, so it's nice that Peavy and Humber are picking up the slack
  17. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 22, 2012 -> 10:47 AM) Hope Sale brings his best stuff, because TBD always seems to kick our behinds. it's entirely possible it's Jarrod Parker - in which case we're f***ed.
  18. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 22, 2012 -> 03:34 PM) I don't know what you are talking about with "poor Danks" either. He has been awful today, and just like usual he gives a lead back and then some. Yeah the errors by lilli and beckham sucked, but the guys on base when those errors happened were all on Danks. he gives up a single, and the guy ends up on 3rd base by no fault of Danks. Where was the other hard hit ball that inning?
  19. QUOTE (jeffro2525 @ Apr 22, 2012 -> 03:31 PM) Other than that ball to right it's been Danks getting hit hard, walking guys, and throwing the ball into right field. what about gordon's heads up play? what about Dunn not paying attention to snag the throw? That's 3 plays man. Yeah fine, Danks isn't crazy sharp today, but his defense is NOT helping him.
  20. QUOTE (Baron @ Apr 22, 2012 -> 03:29 PM) No Ive been watching another team called the White Sox. are you 12?
  21. QUOTE (Baron @ Apr 22, 2012 -> 03:27 PM) Why poor Danks? He hasnt been good at all today i'm not sure this warrants a response. have you been watching the game?
  22. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Apr 22, 2012 -> 07:56 AM) I like when poster's old comments are brought back. oh no you di-int
