  1. at the end of the day, moderation moderation moderation. we've always known that, and it will always be true.
  2. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 10:15 PM) http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/elections/ In Ohio Romney is winning in the more urban areas. of course he is. what we're watching tonight is the exact same thing that happens in the general if you substitute Romney for the democratic candidate.
  3. QUOTE (WSoxMatt @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 03:20 PM) Izturis out 4-3 Bad team or not, watching this has me all sorts of giddy. Baseball!
  4. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 10:20 AM) The nanny-staters always have to have a boogyman. Can't mind their own business, got to get all up in everyone else's. F*ck off, I will eat a steak if I want to, and enjoy it. My buffalo burger for lunch Friday was awesome. And a bone to the vegheads, I had bacon-wrapped asparagas over the weekend. Mmmmmmm, bacon. buffalo's actually a lot better for you than beef.

    Best regional chains

QUOTE (The Baconator @ Mar 4, 2012 -> 06:13 PM) Portillo's, Jimmy John's, and Potbelly. Never knew how much I loved those three until I can't have them anymore. And may I just say, I don't want to see Five Guys anywhere near this list. It's a trashcake chain; you only like it because people WANT you to like it. Sit down and actually eat one of those burgers and you'll realize that it isn't nearly as delicious as people claim it is, especially for the price. potbelly aint regional no mo! they're in NYC now. SO EXCITING!
  6. QUOTE (The Gooch @ Mar 5, 2012 -> 08:56 PM) I asked for it. It will be nice to have a 2nd favorite team. Yeah I know, theyre ugly. you can still like buehrle et al. without becoming a fan of one of the most sleazy and worst run franchises in baseball. but to each his own.
  7. QUOTE (sunofgold @ Mar 3, 2012 -> 10:01 PM) Time to make this harder. Pick your ultimate favorite White Sox player. #1, Numero uno. Only one choice, one player. No ties. Like the Academy Awards, you all made some great nominees and now pick your winner. Managers and coaches are in play. This is hard. My ultimate favorite White Sox player is Ozzie Guillen. Like his humor, craziness, unpredictability..but at the same time he loves the game and respects it. Brutally honest even if I don't always agree with his opinion. Getting us to the promise land in 2005. And of course enjoyed watching him play defense at SS. What a character. Whew, that was hard. So many other White Sox players that I had to turn my back on. haha! Easily Frank. He's the guy who got me into the sox when I was a kid.
  8. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 1, 2012 -> 04:22 PM) But you don't have to be a douchebag about it yourself. Sure, but that doesn't preclude the former from being true
  9. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 1, 2012 -> 04:19 PM) I don't agree with your claim that any criticism of the someone who died is off-limits. lol exactly. Hey SS2k5 Osama and Il say hi.
  10. You're allowed to not be sad when a douchebag dies.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Feb 29, 2012 -> 09:11 AM) Citi field is more fun than Yankee stadium. More of an open stadium and laid back atmosphere. At Yankee stadium everyone is so anal about everything and it's not as enjoyable. And if you wear white sox gear prepare to get heckled. A lot. Yankee fans are the worst. I still go to all the Sox games tho.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 28, 2012 -> 07:01 PM) Is there another kind in attendance at the Oscars? I can see maybe the role players and newbies, but if you've been there long enough you're bound to start believing the "movies save orphan children" stuff. Best example of this is the nominee intros for best actor/actress. Ugh, their farts smell good. You seem like an unhappy person.

this is turning into a silly argument. and we should probably stop it now. I'm not racist, you're not racist, none of us are racist. the civil rights movement was a great thing led by amazing people and lets just leave it at that. aaaaaand back to the oscars.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 28, 2012 -> 05:58 PM) jesus christ, no. .... obviously the civil rights movement was started by black people, but the lawmakers at the time were white... the ones to changed laws... were white... to stop racism, white people had to stop being racist... thus ending racism... this making sense?

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 28, 2012 -> 05:54 PM) It's actually a black woman. to be fair... white people caused racism and were the perpetrators... so didn't it HAVE to be white people that fixed it? (ie: changed laws, attitudes, etc)

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 28, 2012 -> 05:17 PM) Not to make this a debate about whether she worked hard or not, but 90 appearances in 15 years is an average of 2 per month. That's gotta be like a max of 2 weeks of work per month. Is that really a lot in the grand scheme of things? you and Steve - you just have no idea about working in the entertainment industry so you should both keep your mouths' shut on the issue. You have no idea how hard it is. You have no idea the hours that go into it. You have no idea how many auditions she went to that she DIDN'T book - so to book two gigs per month means she has been working her ASS off. The gigs ARE NOT the work in this field. The work is the auditions. Day in and day out going in sometimes multiple times a day and having to prove that you're the right person for this gig - putting yourself on the line - is incredibly difficult and takes a LOT of work and preparation. You sometimes have to learn almost an entire role, just to be told they're going in a different direction. Let me explain it from a personal experience. Jersey Boys. Great show - y'all should see it. I'm perfect type-wise for the Frankie Valli track. They brought me in to what they call "Frankie Camp" where you spend a week learning the songs, the lines, the dances, the character - EVERYTHING. Then at the end of the week they say "alright guys you were great. Some of you will hear from us in a couple months, some in 2014, and this might be the end for some of you too". After pouring everything you've got into it, you have to move on and forget about it and go back to your day job and just keep on auditioning. And you tell me what we do isn't hard work? You have no idea.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 28, 2012 -> 04:42 PM) Come on, when you saw that you didn't get the sense at all that they were basically smelling their own farts? That an entire industry of white people who passed over some legitimate black actors/actresses over the years are suddenly now genuinely happy about a black woman winning one? You mentioned earlier how she was in the business for ever before getting a decent role. How about a guy like Christopher Plummer that went an entire career (decent one too) without winning? He got half the reaction. yes. and re: Christopher Plummer, he got a standing O as well. he was amazing in Beginners. why is it so hard to fathom that Octavia Spencer may have deserved it?

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 28, 2012 -> 04:30 PM) Yeah, that's the Academy! http://www.npr.org/2012/02/23/147291130/mo...le-out-of-touch and the last handful of posters ripping on the movie/selection/reaction to black actors winning awards
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 28, 2012 -> 04:23 PM) They may push him to 175, but I said "150 good innings". I think he'll be breaking down past that. They'll still give him starts to keep him going, like they did with D1 back in 2007, but he'll clearly only have so much left. And I reiterate, I don't think Molina belongs anywhere near the big leagues this year. Especially with other options like Castro, Stewart, and Axelrod who can clean starts up if we need to. i bet you Chris Sale has an ERA under 4 - in fact - I'll go so far as to say bet he has the best ERA of our staff come the end of the year.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 28, 2012 -> 02:56 PM) Not to turn this into anything that might sound racist, but... Yes, black actors and actresses have won the award before. But I don't think you can sit there and tell me that the crowd doesn't make a bigger deal out of it whenever it happens. Go back and watch when Denzel Washington or Halle Berry won. halle berry was the FIRST black actress to win! that's a big deal!

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 28, 2012 -> 02:50 PM) It's a gigantic circle jerk is what it is. If it was all about friends getting together to congratulate themselves then do it in the Bel-Air Hilton ball room and shut the door. Instead it's an industry created slobfest that is broadcast to the world. It's made worse by the continuing reminder about how important it is. sounds like you dont wanna watch. great thing about this country? freedom to not watch if you don't want to.

    2012 Oscars Thread

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 28, 2012 -> 02:31 PM) I see what you're saying and I totally agree. When Octavia Spencer won the Oscar, and the crowd (98% white people) gave her a standing ovation, I just busted out laughing. She may well be completely deserving, I have no idea since I didn't see the movie. But the whole scene had this subtext (read in aristocratic english accent): "Oh! Look at us. We made a film about African Americans, and I dare say she was quite good. Yes, yes. Let's congratulate ourselves her for the work we she did. We're so forward thinking unlike the rest of the uncivilized masses in this country! Bravo!" Maybe if Hollywood stopped the pretentious, arrogant bulls*** every year people wouldn't think that way. But it's hard not to when people like Clooney talk about movies single-handedly starting every minority rights/acceptance movement in the country's history. Or when they beat you over the head with "movies are what make us live from one moment to the next" crap. wow. so here's the thing. actors and directors and filmmakers think their industry is important? what??? how dare they! Jenks do you think your job matters? do you think your job makes a difference? should we yell at you for saying so? come the f*** on. and they were not giving her a standing ovation because she was black. Black actresses have won awards before. No longer is it groundbreaking. They were applauding because she's a friend who'd been working in the industry for 20+ years who FINALLY got offered a role that wasn't filled with fart jokes, and she delivered in a huge way. I thought it was awesome. that's what you don't get. the oscars are a party for this big group of friends to celebrate the good work they did in the last year. it's just like an end of the year office party, just televised on national tv. you don't like it, don't watch it.
