  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 11:47 AM) You mean like telling people they shouldn't care at all about the favorite players on their favorite team, even after 11 years? you really are a republican. let's get back to baseball, though, k?
  2. I'm not sure, but recently looking over Mark Buehrle's career it makes me wonder what should and should not qualify as a hall of famer. I mean, numbers wise, of course buehrle doesn't get in. But the list of things he accomplished has been matched by very, very few pitchers. I mean, is it the hall of the best players in the game? or is it the Hall of Fame To me, Roger Maris is one of the most famous names in baseball history, yet he's not in the hall of fame because his career numbers didn't live up to the standard. I'm not suggesting he SHOULD be in the hall, nor Buerhle, I just think it's interesting to think about - that a guy like Maris who's surrounded by and created baseball lore - isn't in the hall.
  3. QUOTE (sunofgold @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 11:21 AM) This is right move by both sides. Buehrle too expensive for the White Sox as his numbers would probably worsen in the AL. However, in the NL, he will have new life and getting to face the pitcher 2-3 times a game will help him. I think that the Marlins overpaid for him however it will help him to move to the NL. And having Ozzie manage him only helps Buehrle. Ozzie knows him well and also knows when to protect Buehrle (like limiting spring training innings, giving him an extra day of rest here and there). Of course if the White Sox didn't have the contracts of Dunn and Rios, then we could have overpaid on Buehrle. We also lost Buehrle in 2007 and we gave him a big contract then. Grateful for all that Buehrle did with his time with the White Sox. Especially 2005. Opening Day 1-0 win (first appearance in 2005) and then the save in Game 3 of the WS (last appearance in 2005) damn if that didn't set the tone, huh? good stuff.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 11:13 AM) It ain't personal, its just business. your business is trolling a message board? ugh. I'm sorry for the life choices that brought you to this point. alright, you win.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 11:06 AM) Why it is only business, right? It ain't personal, right? Kind of odd to have such an emotional reaction, don't you think? haha yeah ok you keep at it and try and rile me up. That will TOTALLY prove your baseball-related argument. this is pretty silly don't YOU think?
  6. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 09:50 AM) I'd like to add that, once you rightfully add Gingrich into that list, the Republican base seems insistent on nominating one of these nuts. exactly. it goes to show just how nutty the entire republican base in this country is. it's g-d scary.

  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 11:01 AM) Right. Remember "it ain't personal" when you are one of your loony left wing rants. wow that's a completely different context and not at all related to the topic we're discussing. and kinda odd and inappropriate for a mod such as yourself to bring the 'buster into a PH thread dontcha think?

  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 10:51 AM) Over a "business decision"? lol that's all it is. I'm in the same industry. I work in the entertainment industry and that's exactly what sports is. It's no different than an actor leaving a long running tv series to go do movies ala Steve Carrell and The Office. Getting angry at him is just pointless. Yeah sure it's ruining your favorite show, but he's got other things he wants to do with his life, and that's just the way it is. It ain't personal.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 10:49 AM) Orioles close to announcing a trade today. Could very well be with the Sox or it's Dana Eveland from the Dodgers. lol jonmorosi: Source: #Orioles acquire Dana Eveland from #Dodgers. [via Twitter]
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 10:44 AM) That is just an excuse to come off a preachy when you want to, and still be able to throw a temper tantrum over essentially the same thing. hmm. show me where I've thrown a temper tantrum about a player leaving?
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 10:37 AM) Which is impossible. that means no reactions to trades, no reactions to signings, no reactions to drafts, no reactions to firings etc. lol you can have your reactions, but you also HAVE to realize players don't do this stuff to spite the fans, and they don't do it because they're "hypocritical" or "shady" or whatever. They don't OWE us anything. Baseball is their job. And they treat it just like you and I treat ours, as a business. And we need to realize that.
  14. QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 10:36 AM) What an awful contract.....$25-26M/yr for 10 years? To a 32 yr old? Madness. I read where STL offered him 9 years, anyone know the dollars? That's kind of shady for him to leave STL if it was only over 1 yr on his deal. and a lot more money. STL was around 200M or so. s*** I'd wanna live in LA over STL also. Aint nothing wrong with that.
  15. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 10:23 AM) Pujols signing with the Angels makes both Kendry Morales and Mark Trumbo expendable - which is going to make it harder to get a haul for Paul Konerko. good point on Trumbo though. Unless they do some RF shenanigans for a couple years and then move Albert to DH
  16. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 10:16 AM) I wonder what they do with Kendry Morales now. first prove that he can play the game again
  17. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 10:07 AM) Holy sh*t the Angels DID get Pujols... A-Rod money right there
  18. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 02:13 AM) Who knew 11 years later, I'd feel so sad to not see some no-name 38th round pick be on our team. Damn it Mark...damn . that's wacky. I'ma miss that guy.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 09:49 AM) If you are taking emotion totally out of sports, there is no reason at all for you to be watching it. also I guarantee that's not what he meant. you have to take emotion out of the business side of the sport.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 06:58 PM) 1.) Why? Letting the best pitcher in White Sox history (arguably) go? 2.) What I'm trying to say is it's now easy for Jerry to go cheap again. Team is not going to win anything and he'll gladly strip the payroll to shreds IMO. 3.) Thank u el rockin. Guys like milkman act like nobody agrees with me. Listen to the talk shows. You don't think fans are going to express outrage? Just because I have a different opinion of you doesn't mean my opinion is not shared by others, Milk. I CANT BELIEVE many of you think this had nothing to do with Mark loving playing for Oz at all. Yes, he ONLY picked Florida because of the offer. Sure. the people who call in to talk shows honestly don't know a thing about baseball 90% of the time
  21. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 06:48 PM) Did what? fail to see that most of us can be respectful of others while disagreeing or making our opinions known? mostly just in response to what J4L said.
  22. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 06:39 PM) OK, that's argument. Fair enough. But, let's just hope we don't keep sucking. Agreed? I did it!
  23. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 06:37 PM) Did I miss something on the offer? Insane for what reason? MLB reports was that it was simply a small raise over what he was already getting from the Sox and for four more years. Did we think he was going cheaper? Maybe folks were convinced his skill level was diminshing and so that makes it insane? Apparently a lot of team didn't see it that way. Not criticizing your commenst here just trying to wrap my head around the reason we didn't seem to want to keep MB. we didn't have that much money and he's not WORTH that much money. There's no way a 33 year old pitcher is worth MORE for the same number of years as a 29 year old pitcher. End of story! How do you not understand this stuff?
  24. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 06:34 PM) And I won't say we don't have or not have the money. I don't know, but I really think we do and wouldn't have made the commitments we did last year and before in salary if we didn't. I understand your argument it's just that I am not sold on it maybe this will sell you. owners make money by selling tickets. fans buy tickets. when teams suck, there are no fans. no fans, means no tickets sold. no tickets sold means no money for owners. no money for owners means no opening up wallet to INCREASE payroll. NOT. EVER. GOING. TO. HAPPEN.
  25. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 06:29 PM) Complaining about what? Did we not spend a lot of monery and get told we were all IN. Apparently that didn't last long. I can see the Marlins are spending a lot of money. Spending money is what you do to sign quality right? What is the plan here? We thought we might go yound in 2010-2011 but instead we were ALL IN. Now we are all OUT or so it seems. The direction the Sox maangement is going is confusing. I think being ALL IN for one year is a bit crazy. You should have some kind of a long term plan. Apparently we didn't have one. Why don't we think of that instead of this bashing of Soxtalk fans, who want to see us keep our veteran performers together and compete while building up our farm system or signing free agents that can help us. Spend your money on known quantities. Maybe the team management knows something about Mark Buerhle or Sergio Santos that we don't? Maybe MB's arm is going to fall off? Regardless I am a loyal Sox fan. I will be there supporting the Sox, but I do want to have a competitive team. Maybe Dunn will resurface? Maybe Rios will finally perform to expectation? I want to hear more than "It's just time to move on." Sorry if we have negative people here that think all 25 Sox team members are worthless. We have some folks that just seem to want to criticize and ostracize other posters with their smart ass comments attacking people who don't see it their way. I just don't see myself or others as being that negative when we ask the question of where is this team headed. You can get younger, but that doesn't mean we will get better. WHEN YOU GO ALL IN AND LOSE YOU HAVE NOTHING LEFT. WE HAVE NOTHING LEFT. WE LOST. NO MONEY. CANT SPEND ON PLAYERS WITH NO MONEY.
