Ryan Sweeney - loved him. Came from my neck of the woods in Iowa

i don't get interleague. we haven't played the mets in 10 years.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 09:54 PM) There was nothing Ozzie could have done differently in the three games to help the Sox win. Tigers are just flat out better at almost every position, that's all that matters. except that he went into the series expecting to lose. i think that's something he could have done differently.

And that, my friends, is a White Sox season

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 07:11 PM) Considering a lot of people around here want to give up on guys after a bad month, I really don't think most who want a total re-build have any idea what they are actually wishing for. i know exactly what i'm wishing for. i'm wishing we had traded our pieces at the trade deadline for prospects, let de aza, lilli, viciedo, flowers, beckham and whomever else we acquired play and see what we have. it's a lot better than this dunn/rios/pierre bulls*** that ran us into the ground this year. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 06:00 PM) KW needs to clean out his locker. thats what you glean from this? really?

get rid of kenny, get rid of ozzie, get rid of everyone and lets start over. I'd LOVE to straight up rebuild for a year or two. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 10:01 PM) Hopefully 20 more years. The guy speaks the truth and people blast him. Some of you won't be happy until we get a grumpy ol manager like Ned Yost who won't say anything except "we take them one game at a time." Then you'll all be happy I guess. I applaud anything negative Ozzie has to say about these losers. You think talk means anything to these millionaires? They just go out and play every day. This Sox team doesn't deserve any long Ozzie speech about how we are still in the race, we can beat Detroit, blah blah. I love his colorful comments. They are way better than the cliches the rest of the managers spout daily. Detroit is not going to be any more fired up against us because of anything the Sox say. If the Sox hit home runs and pitch well they will win. If they do not hit home runs they will lose. And some of you really are gonna be mad cause look for Flowers to sit soon and look for DeAza to be sitting as well. i hate everything about this post.

God i want him gone. i'm so sick of his arrogant self centered bulls***. he thinks he's above the team - it's extremely clear. we don't need any part of that anymore.

what a wuss of a storm. psh.
-
honestly i'm less worried now - it'll only be a tropical storm by the time it hits NYC hard. sure flooding is still an issue, and we may still lose power for a bit, but it's not looking near as bad as it was yesterday. First waves of rain are hitting now though. and i'm only on the 4th floor - should be good.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 26, 2011 -> 03:25 PM) And then imagine that the ocean rises up 10 feet and swamps every street so that you can't get out. fortunately I live far above the hudson river - though i can see it from my apt. I'm probably a good 50-100 feet above, with a highway below, closer to the river, and then a cliff. Plus I'm on the west side of the island, so if there's a safe place in manhattan, it's my apartment. Just gonna batten down the hatches, cover the windows, and I've got a few days worth of water+food. I'll letcha all know how it goes.

I'm sitting here debating whether to leave or not. It'd have to be tonight, since tomorrow will be impossible with the subway closing down. I never imagined I'd be having to make these decisions while living in New York City. But I'm gonna head to the store in a bit to get non-perishable food, batteries, flashlights, water, etc... cuz I'm pretty certain we'll be without power for a while. This city is just NOT built to handle 80mph winds. It'll be very interesting to see how this all plays out... i can see the on-ramp to the George Washington Bridge from my apartment and its at a standstill. Crazy stuff.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 14, 2011 -> 12:52 AM) UM, OK, perhaps I should have put that in GREEN, but I thought that was pretty obvious. An ARAB guy posts a pic on yfrog of people protesting, with no caption or evidence who is protesting or where they are at, and it gets linked into a story claiming that Christians are being mean at the Arab Fest. honestly it wasn't obvious coming from you. you have zero concept of other cultures/religions, so when you discuss them we have to take everything you say at face value.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 10:40 AM) Really? Is that how the mind of a cheater works? Because I assure you, I have never cheated on a person even a little. If you're talking about a board game, then yes, I've cheated. If it's something for money, I never cheat. I don't cheat when another person can be hurt by it. If it's just a fun game of checkers and the other person isn't paying attention, I may make an illegal move. It's really not hard to not cheat. "the mind of a cheater" what defines someone as a "cheater"? doing it once? does one misstep a cheater make? is it like the scarlet letter that brands you the rest of your life? no. no it was just a temporary lapse in judgment - something from which we all suffer. sure, if someone like tiger goes and cheats over and over, that comes from something much deeper - an inner insecurity, a weakness, a character flaw - and then maybe you can condemn him. but not for one bad choice. one mistake. this is a shades of grey issue

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 09:17 AM) FIne, I'm greatly concerned that Palin will be on the ballot. Conservatives swear to me she has no chance but the liberal media keeps saying that conservatives love her, so it must be true for all. i don't know how this came up - but she's not gonna run. she's making way too much damn money doing book tours and "trying to decide" to run to actually do it.
-
ugh. we've all been cheated on, most of us have cheated. do any of you feel MLK jr was a bad person? even if he did act rather lasciviously with women? can any of you honestly say that? the two ARE NOT mutually exclusive. you can be a great man, a great leader, a great hero, accomplish great things, and still have a vice. all of us do. none of us is perfect.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 09:40 PM) Alpha's really not that kind of person, he just gets really worked up about politics. oh yeah? then explain the avatar? i'm sorry, but that gives a pretty good idea of what kind of a person he is.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 09:06 AM) At what point does 'most' matter? If it is 20 million, but that is only 5%, does that make it ok? After 9-11 you saw mass cheering in Muslim communities around the world including here in the US. As for Yahoo commenters, they are 99% trolls anyway just looking for a fight. well no s*** because that's what the media and the government wanted you to see. of COURSE they're not going to show you the people who disagreed with it, and felt that it was an atrocity. That doesn't sell papers.
-
there's no point fighting this fight - Alpha's views are the kind of views that are just plain hurtful to decent human interaction, and do nothing to move us forward. People like him haven't learned tolerance, even though we've gone through human rights upheavals time and time again with slavery/women/blacks/gays... people just don't learn because they're still scared of what they don't understand. Alpha's one of these people. No point trying to fight him, but you can sure as hell pity him.

Mysterious company dissolves after giving $1 million to pro-Romne
Reddy replied to Texsox's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (farmteam @ Aug 10, 2011 -> 09:53 PM) Flysox (or whatever your name is today), I do have a legitimate question for you. Obama is your Commander-in-Chief, right? If he walked up to you right now in his official capacity and gave you an order, you'd have to follow it, correct? From what I understand, grousing about the incompetency of one's superiors is quite commonplace in the military, much like in any organization or company. But if I'm in another organization where I vehemently disagree with everything my superiors are saying -- not just thinking they're incompetent, but that they are actively making bad decisions and making it an organization I don't want to be a part of -- then I leave that organization. Plain and simple. Because of this, I'm having a very hard time reconciling how you can apparently loathe everything about the upper apparatus or your organization (military and government), yet still actively be a part of it. Perhaps you can elaborate on this for me? hot damn this is a good post. -
QUOTE (God Loves The Infantry @ Aug 10, 2011 -> 09:50 PM) Thank you. In spite of our differences, I sincerely appreciate you being able to say that. As for A Few Good Men, I have seen it. Not sure what you're getting at. eh, it was a kind of snarky remark on my part (shocking) and i could've just left it out. it's basically about a military court martial where the commanding officer at guantanamo defends certain military practices that led to a soldiers death, but that he claims are necessary to make the unit as a whole stronger. ie: good of the whole at the expense of the weak kind of thing. Paints things like codes of honor to be ways of manipulation etc. at the end of the day though, as you obviously well know, the truth is that in order for your units to operate effectively, there need to be things like codes that you adhere to - and a certain amount of blind faith is part of the job description. so go ahead and do your damnedest serving our country, and wait till your done to watch it.

Mysterious company dissolves after giving $1 million to pro-Romne
Reddy replied to Texsox's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (God Loves The Infantry @ Aug 10, 2011 -> 08:47 PM) When have I done that? I hate Romney and his kids, I couldn't care less about GWB, and there's no other chickenhawk that I would ever support. Draft dodging, chickenhawking, those are absolute no-goes. Think whatever you want of me, but I despise chickenhawks. so then... to whom DO you lend your support? -
QUOTE (God Loves The Infantry @ Aug 10, 2011 -> 08:38 PM) I'm in the infantry, you arrogant ass. if that's the case then thanks for your service. really do mean that. but if you ever get a chance to see "A Few Good Men" I'd recommend taking a watch.

QUOTE (God Loves The Infantry @ Aug 10, 2011 -> 08:34 PM) Navy SEALs killed Osama. Obama did not do that. Disrespect towards the military? How about confusing Medal of Honor winners SFC Jared Monti and SSG Sal Giunta? And then not referring to them by their ranks? That's just one, and you'll think it's small because you're a raging leftist who hasn't served. To me and to my brothers in arms, that's not small. people make mistakes. you haven't? i'm sure with your hectic schedule you'd find the time to sit down and memorize every soldier's name and rank, but Mr. Obama has a country and world to run... and sorry, but that's the truth of it. No four star general would argue that. Would it have been better if he hadn't slipped up? sure. of course. but lets get real here...
