QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 08:33 PM) Yea I understand EJax, but people are being very shortsighted on Thornton. Dude is one of, if not the best left handed reliever(s)/set-up guys in the game prior to this year. Now do you make the deal? Absolutely, but don't sell Thornton short. I could see him thriving in the NL, bailing out St. Louis alot in later innings. People also are ignoring the fact that elite relievers come and go. Linebrink used to be elite, what's happened to Jonathan Broxton? Brian Wilson wasn't always this good. What happened to Bobby Jenks? George Sherrill was good for 10 minutes. Joe Nathan. Cliff Politte. I could go on and on and on and on and on. Relievers are the MOST unpredictable players in baseball.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 08:22 PM) In my best Peter Griffin impersonation...What!!!? Jackson is GONE after this year. Thornton is a reliever who failed miserably as a closer and will be making almost $6 million dollars next year. For Rasmus? See ya! exxxxxxactly.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 08:17 PM) Because that is overpaying for a guy who is struggling and in LaRussa's doghouse. Is it too much to ask Kenny to win some of these trades decisively??? you can't get rasmus cheap. you just can't. he's got elite potential. how many years did it take kemp to become elite? Ethier? I'm just saying, he's a huge talent, and to only give up a FA pitcher, and RP, and a prospect, is amazing. If it's only one of the first two and that spec - even better. I don't see how anyone can really argue that.

QUOTE (Real @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 07:55 PM) that's my point, if quentin is traded, this move is epic fail rasmus IS NOT BETTER THAN CARLOS QUENTIN, RIGHT NOW. All IN implies THIS YEAR. ugh. if you can trade carlos quentin for someone of beachy's caliber you do it in a heartbeat because we ALL KNOW how CQ can be god one year and trash the next. you have no idea what you're getting. if you can sell high and get a great arm/whatever else - I say you do it. Especially with us out of contention (which - lets be honest - we are)
-
Reed and EJax? I'd do THAT in a heartbeat.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 12, 2011 -> 01:43 PM) In 2008, King Felix went over 100 pitches in 22 of his starts. In 2009, over 100 pitches in 30 starts. In 2010, over 100 pitches in 29 starts. He's had 14 starts this year and gone over 100 pitches in 12. I think he's well past the "Be careful and develop him" phase. Pitch him. there's "going over 100" and then there's going 125+ every time out.
-
5-3 Mariners now Why Seattle keeps running Felix back out when he's already over 100 pitches is beyond me. Did they learn nothing from Dusty Baker's idiocy?

are. you. f***ing. kidding. me?

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 28, 2011 -> 01:26 PM) He was facing a lefty in Patterson. Just strike him out. why don't you go and "just strike him out" ok?

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 26, 2011 -> 11:39 AM) Yeah, something like a rule change would be f***ing terrible, IMO. If a player chooses not to block the plate, that's fine (although he'll deservedly get crap). But to make the action illegal? Ugh, that would lead to even more pussification of this sport. The last thing I want is for baseball to become more like basketball, a sport where you have almost zero chance of getting hurt unless you cause the injury yourself. One of the things I hate most about basketball is the cockiness of the players that seemingly believe they're the toughest guys on Earth, although they play the least physical (in terms of collisions/bodily harm) of almost any sport in the world. answer me this: fair catch in football. what's the difference here? there should be a rule against blocking the plate. might suck when you lose a game like that, but it could save careers, and that's more important in the long run.

i think pk's play was just a tick below buehrle's, but not by much. As far as betancourt is concerned - he's a shortstop, he's supposed to make flashy plays. when's the last time you saw that kind of play from a 1B?

QUOTE (OilCan @ May 11, 2011 -> 05:11 PM) It's called getting older. Seriously, I can relate to some points. Ever since 2005, there's a little part of me that says "I saw my team win it all, and really why watch anymore?" I'm guilty. Then there's the most part of me that says "Because you're born on 26th and Wallace back in 73 and you saw your first baseball games versus Detroit in 77, and you met Chet Lemon in 79 and YOU WERE HOOKED FOR LIFE." Being out of state, it doesn't help, especially living in a town where Houston is 3 hours driving away, and Arlington is about 4. And, raising a family too takes up your time, blah blah blah.... Wait, maybe it is getting older. Crap. Well back to my point, can't even THINK about if the Sox move away or if they are ever retracted for any reason. If they do for either, then I will watch a game or two once in a while and see plenty of UT or Texas State baseball as I live right behind their stadium here in San Marcos. haha say two posters who joined the site during 2005... shocking.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 11, 2011 -> 07:01 AM) *Shudders* I've watched about 6 hours of NBA basketball since the Sonics were stolen. I'm done with the NBA until they get a team again. If OKC wins the NBA title this year I think I'll probably get sick. If something similar happened with the Sox I would not support that team, but I wouldn't give up the sport the way I did there. I've always kind of followed the Marlins so either I'd become a legit fan or I'd stay local and probably start rooting for the Mets. haha me too man. my bro's a mets fan so I'm pretty sure that's what I'd do too.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 9, 2011 -> 09:55 PM) Not flaming anybody but that's why Beckham couldn't be sent down. Too much talent. I guess we have to accept most of our hitters are streaky bad and good. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=81466

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 9, 2011 -> 09:53 PM) I'm sick of looking ahead. I just want the guys to follow the boring cliche and play them one at a time and make my MLB subscription worthwhile like tonight. if i could i would 'like' this post
