QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 08:46 AM) I'm only asking this...have we ever acquired a hitter on the advice of Walker, because they noticed a mechanical flaw or adjustment holding them back? Now if this happened with Rios or Quentin or whoever, that's great...I just never heard about it. With Cooper, they have found the flaws in Thornton and Floyd pretty quickly (not sure about Danks) and it seems they have an idea what advice they want to give Jackson too. The White Sox have been playing over their heads for weeks, the offense is actually looking, at worst, at least middle-tier in the AL and nobody could make lemonade out of Jones and Kotsay, I am just curious why it's easier to "fix" pitchers than hitters? If you searched the database, how many COOP WILL FIX HIM posts have there been since they days of Loiaza and Marte? I would guess hundreds, if not thousands... the reason is that a pitcher has 4 days in between starts to work with coop - hitters are out there every day. if they're in a slump, it's harder to break out of it because there's so much pressure to turn it around the NEXT day. I imagine it's harder for a coach to fix mechanics and such because of the same reason. an 0-16 over 4 days will get you benched. Not much time to work.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 10:20 PM) That was a horrible, horrible at bat Paulie. it looked like he was just swinging at air. not watching the ball, not concerned about location, not putting anything on the swing... very, very weird.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 06:57 PM) Ozzie's being careful with him. might as well.

the universe has a sadistic sense of humor and is directing it at me. get this: I booked the show. So did the new girl I was into. So did the girl I had a fling with (and by fling I mean it got really intense really quickly, I got invested, she freaked out, and dumped me on my ass, and I still have feelings for her). Are you joking? The odds of that are absurdly low in New York. The ONE person I'd have LOVED to spend plenty of time away from is now going to be in my grill every single day ALONGSIDE the new girl. Unreal. Sidenote referring to my original "unknowing wingman" scenario: last night when I jokingly thanked her for being such a great wingman she claimed she was doing it on purpose because she could tell this new girl liked me. So Bren - think that's the truth?

hilarious. can't believe he's 29 already. dang.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 14, 2010 -> 06:53 AM) If the girl is legitimately trying to help you (or is doing it by accident, as in your case), then yes. But if you had asked girl A to be your wingman, in this scenario, I don't think she would help. She might act like she is, but I certainly wouldn't put it past her to sabotage you so that she can have you for her own fallback option. and there's the rub. see, this girl is the one who decided she just wanted to be friends - didn't want a relationship right now, blah blah blah. and while we were riding the train home that night I told her that she'd have to come out some time and be my wingman. she said that she would. it was all that half-joking kind of thing. but I feel like she'd be down to do it. i have no idea, though, how it'd go once the game's running. and I'm reeeeeally curious to find out. A) she does a great job and it works out well for me B ) she sabotages me and that gives me a whole different set of information, and could lead to the jealous hookup seems like a win-win.

so this girl who i had a fling with (i was the one who was more into it than her - suck - and we broke it off) anyway - we still hang out and we're trying to do the friends thing cuz she's cool and well connected (i mean what?) but I realized this evening that she's a GREAT wingman. we were both called back for the same show - both actors - and we're there all evening. I'm reading for the role opposite of her, and the fact that we know each other brings really great chemistry to it. I ALSO read with this other girl, really cute, but so my time was spent being pulled between both of them, trying to practice with each of them equally while waiting to go in. I was flirting with this new girl and casually added that there was history between me and girl A, who kept coming over to pry me away from her. Long story short, I ended up getting the new girl's number. Now girl A had no clue she was being a wingman, but the end result was the same - so it leads me to ask... Do you think women can be good wingmen? I'm of the opinion that they're the best kind of wingman - but I'm curious what other people think.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 01:03 PM) I love you. Great perspective. He could keep her on the back burner for a booty call, but thats about all you would get from this one. Friends with benefits. if that. Seems to me she probably wouldn't take it further than the makeout.

Hawk and Stoney worst broadcast booth in baseball (according to GQ)
Reddy replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in Pale Hose Talk
this is definitely a situation where if I were a fan of any other team, I'd hate hawk - but lord do I love him. and I think the dynamic between Hawk and Stoney is a great one. Stupid GQ -
QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 08:35 AM) Do I make another move and risk rejection again? Nope. Wait for her to make a move? Not sure what you mean by wait?? If it's "I'm not going to pursue any other girls, cause this one may call" Then HELL NO!! In fact, I hereby challenge you to talk to a new girl in the next 7 days.(I know a challenge from me means s*** to you..but pretend it does and go for it.) Thoughts? If the original one makes a move, great...have some fun and don't take it to mean anything. She wasn't over her ex back in May...it's now July and she's going out of town to see him... As Milkman so eloquently put it....she's going to get stuffed. FYI--old thread: http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...6154&st=750 f*** 7 days. do it tonight.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 07:26 AM) I really don't think Lillirbridge can go down, his speed and versatility to play anywhere on the field are too valuable. Add to the fact, he is hitting like a mad-man, no way he goes back. Gonna have to be Tank. i just want us all to take a moment and look at this statement. unbelievable.

QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 09:32 PM) I was actually looking for that thread as well. I've got myself in a confusing situation. There's a girl I met through my co-worker about a year back. I hadn't seen her for a long time until the beginning of May when I invited her and her friend out along with a bunch of others for my birthday. We ended up kissing, had a good time, she gave me her number, etc. A few days later I called her and talked to her, asking if she wanted to get together. She says she isn't over her ex that she was in a long relationship with and wanted to be friends. I see her last night for the first time since then when I was out with a group of friends (I invited her roommate to join us and she came along). Well, ended up kissing again, she was very flirty. However, I know she is supposed to go see her ex sometime in the next week or two out of town. Do I make another move and risk rejection again? Wait for her to make a move? Thoughts? Quick edit: don't mess with the win streak! she's not interested brother. i know it sucks, but i just got done dealing with a girl sending me ALLLL sorts of mixed messages, but at the end of the day, girls like random hookups just as much as guys. Just cut contact entirely. If she contacts YOU, cross that bridge then, otherwise, move on.

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 03:23 PM) I dont know where they relationship thread went that i posted about this girl who i hung out with damn near every day and was madly in love with her but she just wanted to be best friends....well anyway since the last time i seen her the sox are 26-6 before when we were hangin everyday 24-32....she wants to hang out tomorrow cause its my birthday but she seems to be bad luck, i dont think i wanna see her till the sox are crowned champs hah dude I hadn't thought about it but now that you mention it - I just had a very similar experience and though it's not quite as staggering as yours - we've been 12-4 since we (read: she) decided to go the friends route. ooh, how bout this - our OFFENSE has really come around since that. U and me bro, let's keep the streak alive!

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 12:47 PM) Yeah, I am a little worried about Lerew over Greinke. Didn't Lerew pitch really well against us last time? i dont remember last time, but yeah, agreed completely. I like our chances against Greinke.
