And another thing: the DNC is not responsible for the words that come out of Bernie's mouth... You can use them as an all-encompassing boogeyman if you want, but it starts making you sound rather Trumpian when you always blame someone or something else for your mistakes.

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Apr 6, 2018 -> 01:45 AM) Maybe he'd have an easier time of it if the Democratic apparatus would stop trying to convince black voters of this and instead focus on his excellent track record regarding civil rights issues. Beyond paying those issues lip-service, and only when confronted about them, what has he actually done? And what is he GOING to do? (I'm guessing you didn't read the article, as this is all addressed) Here's another, an op-ed from a person of color: Bernie Sanders' History Of Civil Rights Activism Is No Excuse For Him To Slack On Fighting Racism Now

New tonight: Bernie Sanders’ Revolution Needs Black Voters To Win. But Can He Talk To Them?
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 5, 2018 -> 03:14 PM) If the economy goes into a predicted recession and health care is more of a priority issue than foreign policy...Sanders definitely has a decent shot. So many things will change in the next 27 months or so. Of course, if 1/4th of the primaries are Bernie Bros and they feel shafted again...well, they’re not going to risk sitting out another presidential election, regardless if the candidate is Trump, Pence or Ryan. I honestly think you give them far too much credit.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 5, 2018 -> 01:19 PM) Moving forward by refighting the 2016 primaries. Bernie is likely running in 2020. Talking about him and what he's doing NOW, and the risk I think he poses to Democrats moving forward is not refighting 2016 anything.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 5, 2018 -> 12:59 PM) Yes Reddy, he is so clueless. No idea why he has the most favorable opinion ratings of any politician in this country. SMH Sqwert you're smarter than that. You know that polls are a snapshot of a moment and a particular context and don't mean anything in a different moment and a different context, yes? I've had this argument more times than I can count. Google Hillary's popularity ratings in 2014 when she left her post as Sec of State. I'll wait.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Apr 5, 2018 -> 12:12 PM) Clinton super fans anger towards Bernie Sanders is embarrassing. The fact that you still think this has anything to do with Clinton is embarrassing. Welcome to the present, we're running a real nation. The only people who continue to re-litigate 2016 are Berners. I'm trying to do what's best for the party moving forward, and Bernie alienates black people on such a regular basis. He just has no idea how to handle any issue that isn't medicare for all or agreeing with Trump on his attacks on American companies and trade wars.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 5, 2018 -> 09:53 AM) Biden or Tim Kaine aren’t much better for dealing with all the coming technological changes to the world in innovative and insightful ways...really need young blood, 40’s or early 50’s. I wish the South Bend mayor had a real opportunity to break out. https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/201...-feature-217001 Or Garcetti, LA Mayor... He does not, unfortunately. Mayors have a pretty damn difficult path ahead of them. I also just don't think Buttigieg's got the X factor needed to take on Trump. And just think of Trump's nickname for him Kaine is not a real contender.

Bernie goes down to Mississippi for a photo op with Civil Rights Leaders, and during his remarks drags Obama (the first black President if you remember) as a "charismatic leader" but a failure. Oh, Bernie. Whether you like him or not, he's going to make Dems' chances of winning in 2020 very, very difficult if he runs.

Advertising Boycotts When Celebs Say Stupid Things

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Apr 2, 2018 -> 10:44 AM) Wow it's amazing how you are able to make it through life with all that oppression you face as a white, Christian male. This. -
QUOTE (iWin4Ron @ Mar 29, 2018 -> 10:06 PM) I picked him up in over 31 fantasy baseball leagues due to his 3-HR performance and being a member of the White Sox. For my sake, I hope he pans out to be a 40-HR contributor. I'm all in. How... many... leagues... are you in? Also, I've heard it is exceptionally shrewd fantasy baseball management to get excited over a single game's performance from an otherwise mediocre player.

So, uh, definitely a bit more stoked now.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 29, 2018 -> 09:45 AM) Wow, you were more stoked last year? This year’s team could actually be pretty fun. The position player side is filled with interesting players across the board. Just following Moncada will be worth watching most games IMO. Seeing how Anderson rebounds after a rough sophomore season will be exiciting. If those two can take a big step forward this year that could accelerate the rebuild a bit. Then you got a stud in Abreu and a maybe stud in Avi (another guy who will be fun to follow). You got Castillo coming off a pretty nice and having a good catcher would be pretty sweet. I’m actually super excited to see what we have in Nicky & Yolmer. Even Engel will be somewhat interesting to follow given his elite CF defense and if the bat fails as expected we’ve got a very interesting prospect in Cordell. Honestly, DH is the only spot I’m really bummed about, but at some point Eloy will be up and it won’t really matter because the weakest hitter (likely Davidson) will move to the bench or get cut. The pitching side is more worrisome but at least we open the season with three young talents in the rotation. I’m super pumped to see if Giolito is going to take that next step this year. Despite Lopez’s rough spring, I still have faith in his stuff and feel he’ll eventually prosper by working with Coop on a daily basis. And while I have zero faith Carson Fulmer will ever make it as a starter, I’ll take him over Derek Holland, Mike Pelfrey, Dylan Covey, & David Holmberg who combined for 66 starts last year. Plus I fully expect Rodon & Kopech to be in our second half rotation, which is when things should get really excited. The bullpen is what it is but there are a few guys who will be fun to follow in Jones, Soria, Bummer, & even Santiago. Overall, I am pretty pumped for this season. Hopefully Shields doesn’t s*** on that optimism today. I don't know that I was *much* more stoked last year. I stopped paying attention pretty quickly last year as well, but I at least drafted a couple fantasy teams and knew when Opening Day was prior to a couple days before, unlike this year where it completely took me by surprise. I don't know that this is an indictment of the team so much as an observation about myself. It's weird and I don't like it. But I also started grad school last year, on top of working a few jobs, so maybe that's the reason more than anything else. BUT thanks for that write-up, because you're right. There are interesting pieces and things to keep an eye on all season, but lord that James Shields Opening Day nod does NOT inspire confidence

I've never been less stoked for baseball than I am this year, and that makes me very, very sad.

The biggest reason I was pissed about ST being down so long was that I couldn't share my LOYOLA jubilation with all of you. Our best sports team when I went there was our undefeated football team. We didn't have a football team.

I think, for the first time, Trump has an actual, personal opinion about something. I think he's actually anti-gun. There's no other explanation to that roundtable today. This is insane and fascinating and.... wow. This has been one hell of a day in Trumpworld. If we win back Congress, we'll have a Democrat in office. I'm more sure of it than ever.
-
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Feb 28, 2018 -> 04:00 PM) Having de Leon in office is going to make it easier for President Sanders to get that single payer bill passed in the Senate. I'd love some of what you're smoking.
-
Y'all thought Feinstein should retire, and she convinced Trump to support an assault weapons ban today! HAH!
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 28, 2018 -> 01:09 PM) No? That was just rhetorical phrasing. Feinstein is one of the higher profile Democrats in the Senate. If the progressive movement were to successfully primary her from the left with de Leon, that would be a victory for them even if de Leon is also "establishment" in some form. Maybe the progressive base's motivations are a little more complex and nuanced than you're giving them credit for? Why are you saying this? Are people trying to prevent her from running rather than trying to beat her in a race? Hey man, if they want to run, they can run. I'm glad my garbage dem rep Lipinski is facing a serious primary threat that's pulled him at least a little bit to the left from his anti-immigrant, anti-LGBT, anti-health care positions he's held ever since nepotism gave him his seat. Whoever emerges from IL-3 will crush the literal Nazi running on the Republican side, just like Democrats don't really have to worry about a Senate seat in California of all places. Because if they can't hold a Senate seat in California easily, lol 2018 will be a complete bloodbath. How can de Leon be part of the progressive movement and establishment simultaneously? I guess we can all spin for our own purposes.
-
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Feb 28, 2018 -> 01:00 PM) Great, she introduced the assault weapon ban. Any Democratic candidate that would replace her will have the same stance on gun control. I just don't understand why wanting to replace a senator who is arguably one of the most conservative Democrats, from arguably the most progressive state in the union is so shocking to some. Plus she is going to be 90 years old before her term is up. It's not shocking. I get it. I just have a whole lot of other things I'd deem as more important right about now. If the woman wants to run, she can run. And as far as not getting the endorsement, it's unlikely to impact the results in the primary. I just generally don't like the idea of forcing incumbent Dems to waste a ton of money in primaries that could be used fighting their GOP opponents in the fall. This is one of those cycles where we absolutely have to have every advantage we possibly can, to win every possible seat we can. Also, I hope the age factor comes into play for you when choosing which Presidential candidate you'd support
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 28, 2018 -> 11:45 AM) I don't know why I should care who he supported in the 2016 primary if I think he's better than her today. Why is that relevant at all? And of course she has a right to run. Nobody, anywhere, has said otherwise. He's also got a right to challenge her in the primaries, and people to the left of Feintstein can be hopeful that she gets successfully primaried from the left. Everything's always about you, right? The reason it's interesting is because Bernie Bros are lauding de Leon's victory as some sort of blow to the establishment, which it isn't, because he's also the establishment.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 28, 2018 -> 11:18 AM) Also raising age to 21 for firearm purchases. Isnt it crazy these things were sold at Dicks in the first place? WTF They haven't been for years, but were sold at Field & Stream, which is owned by Dick's. They'll no longer be sold there either.
-
I'm all for new blood, and I think de Leon is great. But if Feinstein wants to run, she has every right to run, IMO.
-
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Feb 28, 2018 -> 09:39 AM) 1) You mean he backed her in the election. A lot of people did. He supports 15 minimum wage and single payer health care. Not really Hillary Clinton strong points. 2) Do you know anything about Diane Feinstein? What that she supports are you super excited about? Was it her pro-death penalty stance, voting for Iraq war, supporter of the Patriot Act, maybe way back when she was mayor and defended having the confederate battle flag hanging in front of city hall. 1) He supported her over Bernie in the primary as well 2) Google who first introduced the Assault Weapons Ban.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Feb 27, 2018 -> 09:31 AM) Dianne Feinstein’s California failure: Good news for Democrats Unfortunately, she is probably going to win, but it's good for the future. 1) You know Kevin De Leon is a Hillary Democrat right? 2) Why unfortunately?
