QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 11:09 AM) If in the real world "being a woman" is going to cost us elections because people won't vote for women then our party is just going to have to lose elections. We cannot be someone other than who we are just because a bunch of the country is misogynists. No thanks?

Before y'all freak out. My view on this is the commonly held one here in DC. It's not controversial.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 11:06 AM) This thinking should not matter at all. But it does in the real world.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 09:04 AM) I would be shocked if Hillary ran again. I have no interest in backing her as a candidate after it was clear her baggage at least helped Trump become the President. Here's the folks I think will make a legitimate run: Joe Biden Kamala Harris Kirsten Gillibrand Bernie Sanders I'd be happy to support any of the first three, most excited about Biden. Bernie will be 79 years old at the next election, so I sure as hell hope he doesn't run. I also don't want the party divided which of course his candidacy would bring. I can promise you the nominee will be none of those four. It's going to be someone most of us aren't talking about. Biden and Bernie are way too old, and unfortunately, a woman would be tough vs. Trump. Absolutely a woman for VP though.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 10:23 AM) There is going to be so many people running. 10-15 probably. More.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 18, 2017 -> 12:26 PM) Audience score is at 88% vs Last Jedi at 56%. Even if it was a remake, TFA was a well done remake. I loved it. This was.... just messy. And I don't have near the desire to see it multiple times like I did TFA.

This was Empire + Jedi cobbled together with a stupid prequel-esque casino scene in the middle that didn't fully flesh out anything it needed to, and tried to cram WAY too much into it. Star Wars has always had slow, quiet moments. Moments that advanced character development. This had none of those. Rey didn't learn anything from Luke. Who the f*** is Snoke and why didn't he matter AT ALL? Why was Leia f***ing flying? The best parts of the movie were Mark Hamill and the nostalgia brought on by him talking to R2, Yoda, etc. And Adam Driver was solid. But the rest are just forgettable at this point, and it's just really lazy storytelling, IMO. I had fun, but afterwards all these thoughts started pouring in and I was like..... yeah.... yeah.... hmmm.... ugh.

I think this is entirely legitimate. His career was possibly ended by something that should've been padded and wasn't. That's millions of dollars he won't make. Totally on board for this.

QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 02:14 PM) Blah people=non-white people Is this a thing? Because if it is, it shouldn't be.

QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 03:07 PM) Still has to get through Congress....sh*t Does it? Can you source this? I was under the impression that Congress could vote to overturn the repeal, but if they don't do anything it'll go forward.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 11:47 AM) And in 2016 they blamed the blah peoples. That was the thing that got them to the polls - the blah peoples were taking advantage of the free healthcare and free welfare and free obamaphones that the deserving people couldn't take advantage of. That was the overwhelming set of responses to poll questions - people were motivated by all the free stuff they imagine the blah people's get. I honestly don't know what you're saying.

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 11:44 AM) On the other hand, it's really hard to change things back once they change. It would be much better to fight this back now so you have the legislative bandwidth to tackle bigger problems like climate change. I mean, yes, if the entire country collapsed that would look super bad for republicans but then the dems in office are in charge of rubble. I feel there's very little we - the average person - can do on this one. The FCC aren't a politically motivated body in the sense that their jobs aren't on the line because of public opinion.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 10:40 AM) Gonna do what I can for iron stache. Cruz is a long shot, but he's not very well liked even in Texas. Last time around, he got 40% of the Hispanic how. That probably wouldn't hold up if he's running against a Hispanic Democrat. Cruz is very beatable in this environment.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 11:01 AM) So...when we are paying a fee just to access Soxtalk.com next year, do people really know enough policy to connect that to "Net Neutrality"? I'd imagine less than 50% of people out there actually know that well enough to make the connection. What will happen I guess is that most people will just see their cable rates going up as another way that Comcast has found to screw people, and so when a politician comes along telling them wink wink how they are getting screwed because of all the free things going to blah peoples, they'll scream and yell how they're right. Of course. People aren't that stupid. If they're paying money for something they weren't before, they'll blame the people in power. And you can bet your ass the Dems will make that a central part of their messaging.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 07:18 PM) RIP net neutrality, enjoy paying a whole lot more for worse, tiered broadband service that favors integrated telecoms At this point I'm like f*** it. f***ing do it. There's nothing we can do to stop it, so just do it and invite the wrath of 300 million people upon the Republican party. It's already going to be a blue tsunami, why not make it a category 5 hurricane to boot?

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 03:44 PM) Trump has a 47% approval rating in Alabama and he is 0-2 in elections there. You have to figure his approval rating in that state can't be higher anywhere else. He is poison to a campaign. The longer he's around, IMO, the better it will be for dems elections moving forward. I have the feeling once these tax cuts occur though, he is going to start to get hit from the right. If Trump leaving in disgrace is the consolation prize, it's still OK for most, but some of the collateral damage will not be able to be fixed. People are going to die because of him. People are going to lose a lot because of him, and sadly many of those people are people who believed his BS and voted for him. You're right on all counts. I actually think there are discussions going on in GOP circles right now about removing Trump sooner rather than later, but after tax reform goes through. He's a liability and will cost the party bigly in 2018. I won't reveal the source, but I asked a high-ranking member of the Trump administration whether or not there is concern behind the scenes that, due to his lack of political ideology, President Trump might work with a Democrat-controlled Congress to pass Democratic legislation, should they take back the House and/or Senate in 2018. He didn't hesitate in saying "yes".

This new DNC is on fire. I love it. Such a Perez/Ellison tag team fanboy right now. Their GOTV, voter outreach and campaign plans have been paying huge dividends so far. Dems are +15 nationwide in a generic ballot in a new poll today as well. This could be tsunami if Trump remains in office and keeps acting Trumpy.

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 03:07 PM) Please excuse my ignorance, but when does Jones take office? He has the right to be seated as soon as the results are certified. However, it will likely take until Christmas to count all the ballots and certify the result, and the GOP is going to try and slow that process down. He'll likely join the Senate at the beginning of January.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 06:59 PM) Yes. Tonight is a win for Dems regardless of the outcome. Moore will be a political albatross for the GOP.

QUOTE (Tony @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 12:30 PM) Don’t try and lecture me on statistics when Silver himself wrote this: Is that from this article where he defends his polling as most accurate of the major/reputable pollsters? https://www.vox.com/2016/11/3/13147678/nate...-trump-forecast ^ That's from days before the election. Revisionist history is hilarious.
-
QUOTE (Tony @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 11:36 PM) That article was written about a week after the election, the same election that made Nate Silver look.....not great. His numbers were the most accurate of any pollster. He was right... He gave Trump a 30% chance and Trump hit it. That's how statistics work.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 01:37 PM) I get the feeling this will be a lot like the last Presidential election where a lot of people who won't admit to voting for Moore will do exactly that and Moore will outperform the polls. that likely didn't really happen much in the election. https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/shy-vo...s-missed-trump/

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 10:26 PM) Secret super PAC backing Jones in Alabama exposed A group that's spent more than $4 million on the Democrat's behalf is controlled by Washington interests, even as Jones has distanced himself from the national party. https://www.politico.com/story/2017/12/11/s...a-senate-290502 Believe it or not, the media does actually do its job. Wait. You mean DC Democrats want the Democrat to win the election?? The horror.

QUOTE (brett05 @ Dec 8, 2017 -> 03:12 PM) Good to see the blind hatred still reigns in here especially before the next Star Wars movie. Pure gold.
