Oh, and yeah, of course you prepare for the worst. I was completely prepared for a Gillespie win yesterday and was operating over the last week as if we were running from behind. That's the way you play this game.

You know I meant "changes everything" in terms of the midterms, right? Not in perpetuity.

You will see more GOP retirements in the coming weeks and months, and Republicans in suburban seats are going to lose in 18 if all things remain the same (ie: the GOP has trouble passing legislation, Trump remains Trump). The thing is, this wasn't just VA and NJ. Long-time red areas like Westchester NY overwhelmingly voted out their GOP executive. An area near the Delaware Water Gap which had NEVER gone blue, did. This wasn't relegated to blue districts turning out, there was also a shift in typically red suburban districts that are fiscally conservative but don't support the fear mongering of Trumpism. Dive into the results a bit more - they're pretty fascinating.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Nov 8, 2017 -> 03:14 PM) Then they never understood "Trumpism" in the first place. Trumpism isnt beholden to "failing" or "facts", it is continually changing the facts/narrative to fit whatever conclusion that they want. To them it doesnt matter what happened last night, they will just make things up. That is why losing those races last night "doesnt change everything." For some people in Congress it will definitely make them more nervous about their specific seat, but none of the Governor races were heavy Republican states, in fact both states went for Clinton. Now if it was Wisconsin, maybe youd be talking about some major implications, but again these races (imo) were must wins, not upsets. A little over a year ago the idea Trump would beat Clinton was only held by a very small minority. Im not going to start saying "everything changed" until there is some actual change in a state that needs to be flipped FYI, I appreciate your perspective, but I'm not pulling this out of my ass and it's not unbridled optimism. I'm telling you what top Republican strategists have been saying, and were saying last night to me and the group of people I was with as we watched returns in the White House. The GOP is in full crisis mode.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Nov 8, 2017 -> 02:10 PM) Its nice to have optimism, but its way too early to say "everything has changed." We are about 1 year away from being even remotely close to that conclusion. Everything has changed in the narrative and the way the Republicans are approaching 2018. They're in a box. Non-Trump Trumpism failed resoundingly, which is the strategy they were all planning to run on. And Trumpism WITH Trump also fails. They're damned if they do, damned if they don't. This is a completely different narrative than we had a day ago, and the implications are huge. Everything has changed.

Yesterday was honestly one of the best days of my young political career. Got to watch a blue wave of returns come in while sitting in the White House bouncing questions off a high-ranking administration official. Everything has changed after last night. It's pretty exciting.

spoke with a high level member of the administration last night, and asked if there's concern behind the scenes that a Democratic House would lead to Trump working with Democrats on passing Democratic legislation, since he's not actually all that ideological, and just wants wins. He said "Yes."

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 6, 2017 -> 07:22 AM) The ACA, as designed, was a pipe dream, but when you have nothing else to argue just say "GOP", point and giggle like a 12 year old and you win. That's how every other discussion on this site ends. Then explain to me why it was working well in states that accepted Medicaid expansion, and actually WORKED with the federal government to adopt and implement the program? In blue states with blue legislatures, the ACA worked great. In Red states, or blue ones with red legislatures, it failed. Hm. Wonder why.

Yeah. Nothing to see here. No one's going to care and nothing is going to change. The normalizing is nearly complete.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 5, 2017 -> 05:59 PM) Doesn't change what I said. Which was pretty much a completely irrelevant point anyway.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 5, 2017 -> 01:15 PM) Mueller has enough evidence to charge Flynn https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/amp/mu...igation-n817666 Making this public is likely a tactic to convince Flynn to spill whatever other information he's got in return for some leniency.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 4, 2017 -> 02:44 PM) When I had to take my daughter to the hospital, I was no longer allowed to go to the top hospital near me that we used to attend, now forced to visit a s***tier hospital. I now only have one choice of insurance carrier because the ACA forced so many to go out of business. And this carrier is allowed to say I'm not profitable enough for them, so they shut me out of 75% of their network. You do realize that in order for you to suddenly have insurance, they had to take it away from someone else. Not sure why anyone would even want to open a small business anymore, given how screwed over you get on health insurance. And my mom has been diabetic in this country for 45 years and never once had a problem getting insurance. You have one choice for coverage because your state trashed the program thanks to Rauner and a GOP legislature. That's not on the ACA as designed, that's on your state's leadership.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 4, 2017 -> 11:24 AM) You might be the last remaining person on Earth who has a boner for Hillary. I don't? I recognize that she and her campaign made massive mistakes in strategy, as I've said over and over again. I think she was a flawed candidate, but she was the best option we had. I was never head over heels for Hillary, though I do think she's the most resilient human on the planet. She's not even a public servant anymore and yet all we can do is talk s*** about her constantly. Can't imagine what it takes to live through that and still come on stage smiling. Weird how a person can have a multi-faceted and nuanced perspective on something, right?

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 4, 2017 -> 12:54 PM) Enjoy continuing to fracture the Democratic base over petty bulls*** Like the s*** Donna Brazile just dumped on the party? Come on. I wouldn't be talking about this anymore if Berners wouldn't keep re-litigating 2016. I defend. I don't bring this s*** up anymore. The only elections that actually matter are the ones in 2017, 2018 and beyond.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 4, 2017 -> 08:27 AM) The fact that the ACA is still around is so disappointing. It has put my children's health at risk and now I'm faced with even worse come January 1. Wat. Explain. It's the only reason I and many of my friends and family are able to be covered, and the only reason ANY diabetic is able to be covered at all. So. Yeah. Explain.

QUOTE (KagakuOtoko @ Nov 3, 2017 -> 11:00 AM) Be honest people... how many of you thought that a Trump presidency could be this bad. The checks and balances are working thus far but his cult of followers are the ones that concern me the most. They are like zombies. This is exactly how we all expected it to be! At least those of us who weren't #StillSanders lunatics like Susan Sarandon. Lol.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 4, 2017 -> 08:26 AM) I don't think Sanders said much of anything beyond yelling at Trump that we won't be distracted but you sure do seem to hate him. Jeff Weaver - the head of Bernie's organization - was all over the talk shows spewing BS about this. Come on. Trump is responsible for the things his people do but Bernie isn't? And yes, I do hate him. Guilty.
-
The deal only pertained to the general election, NOT the primary. There was literally NOTHING here that was different than every other agreement every candidate has made with the DNC for the last 15 years. Donna Brazile, Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, Jeff Weaver and Nina Turner should be ashamed.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 30, 2017 -> 12:24 PM) Who do you guys buy your electricity from? Do you buy from ComEd, or have you chosen an alternate supplier? I think Arcadia is great. I've used them for about a year

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 3, 2017 -> 08:59 AM) No way. Current version of the board is heavily left-leaning. As Tex said it wasn't that way before, but it sure is now. I agree. The purchased ads are much less of an issue than people being just plain gullible and spreading B.S. themselves on social media. Well right, but if people are always going to be gullible and prone to spreading BS, then we should regulate the ads that get placed on those platforms. The purchased ads were spread virally BY those people, and ended up being shown to half the electorate. That's much bigger than .1% of the problem or whatever he said.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 2, 2017 -> 12:55 PM) Everyone should be angry that they turned over so much control to Clinton's campaign team because Clinton's campaign team was extremely bad. I actually agree with all of this.
