  1. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 05:31 PM) That's good, but I would still like to see them keep it simple. The slogan should be "We are going to raise the damn minimum wage". That's not broad enough and hurts with small business owners.
  2. Honestly, anyone who's curious should check out the unveiling event from today. Schumer et al. did anything but pull punches. I was really impressed by their candor, clarity, and willingness to take a hard line on the issues they need to if they're going to become a party of the working class again. Give it a watch: https://www.facebook.com/NancyPelosi/videos...55809112379384/
  3. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 03:39 PM) Why are they always pulling their punches. Just say - 1. 15 dollar national minimum wage. 2. Single payer healthcare and free tuition for public colleges. The third point they made is fine I guess. It's just nothing really concrete either. A better third point would have been a new foreign policy. They literally said 15 dollar minimum wage over and over in the presser.
  4. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 01:51 PM) Wow, congrats on getting a platform that big. e: can't say I agree with your take on the Dem's new branding. It's so boring and bland. It seems focused-grouped to hell and back without any real big-ticket items people will be drawn to and can rally behind. I don't remember, are you "working class" or no? Because much of this is the same type of rhetoric Bernie was using to mobilize that demographic. It's smart and effective. Harkening back to The New Deal, while simultaneously creating a dig at Trump and his "deals", this is as good and clear a message as you're going to get. What else better competes with MAGA? I haven't heard a better one. And thanks. Appreciate that.
  5. A Better Deal This message, this announcement, this re-branding is SO on point. I'm excited. http://www.democraticleader.gov/abetterdeal/
  6. To win in Trump era, liberals must first listen to his voters My 3 part op ed series (oped, GOP response, my response back) is out in USA Today. Editors changed some language I don't love, but hey, that's life
  7. I will withdraw support from ANY Senator who supports this bill, Republican or Democrat. This is shocking, unamerican, and absolutely unconstitutional.
  8. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 09:06 PM) Degression indeed. Use discretion when referring to his degression. Sorry for this digression.
  9. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 07:58 PM) Four years here and Abreu can't speak a lick of English to the media in regards to Moncada? sigh.
  10. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 11:05 PM) There's literally 0 reason to salary dump at this point. And Drob and Kahnle both have value whether it's to the Sox winning ball games or not. Should have traded Sale for nothing since he had no value to us. Come on. Obviously the return matters, but we are absolutely overvaluing the pieces we're giving up here if you expect multiple top prospects to come back.
  11. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 11:01 PM) Frazier is not a quality piece. He's a rental coming off 1.5 s*** years. Kahnle has be a "piece" for 3 months. People are crazy Thank you. Literally anything we get for players we don't need and salary we can dump is a win.
  12. QUOTE (KagakuOtoko @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 01:45 PM) Pass. The guy is a talking head, not a journalist. No one's suggesting he's a journalist.
  13. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 04:15 PM) 92 year old Jimmy Carter back building homes for the needy a day after being hospitalized for dehydration. Carter has got to be the best human ever fixed. In awe of that man.
  14. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 12:43 PM) I don't really understand it either, since it seems reeeeally at odds with McConnell's nature. He's brilliant, and typically pragmatic as hell. Often 10 steps ahead of everyone else. Maybe there's some secret genius going on here in passing a bill that more than 80% of Americans are against, but I can't see it. I really just don't see what he's seeing, unless - for once - he's blinded by ego and just desperately wants to trash Obamacare on principle. Just realized the answer to my own question. McConnell wants healthcare to pass FAST while Trump is in office, do they can get their tax breaks and slash medicaid /PP then blame it on Trump when he's impeached. That way they minimize the amount of political capital they lose. THAT'S the McConnell I know and hate. Got it.
  15. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 12:33 PM) Probably true but to be honest there is something strange about giving the responsibility to whip to Ted Cruz. Like he's just trying to prevent a revolt to his right, but knows he's toast. But I'll never underestimate after the house the ability for people with deep concerns over a bill to vote for it because of some token gesture. I don't really understand it either, since it seems reeeeally at odds with McConnell's nature.
  16. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 10:22 AM) THey have the house, senate, and presidency. They ran on fixing this issue. Waiting until it gets worse after they sabatoged it is not a message they should be able to plan on capitalizing on. McConnell is going to do everything he can to pass it while the world is distracted by Russia.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 04:13 PM) Actually I was impressed by how much the Dem's turned on Wikileaks when this happened, after fully embracing them when it happened to Bush. I was mostly amazed at how quickly the reformed into a GOP partisian machine. Yep, it's only Dems who are ever inconsistent.
  18. Dr. Benjamin Franklin: A rebellion is always legal in the first person, such as "our rebellion." It is only in the third person - "their rebellion" - that it becomes illegal If SS2K had been Mr. Franklin, it may have been: An investigation is always justified in the first person, such as "our investigation." It is only in the third person - "their investigation" - that it becomes unjust.
  19. I'm sure, according to SS, Benghazi was in no way political either. I'm sure Bill's impeachment was in no way political. And frankly, who the f*** cares?? Are you seriously suggesting Dems NOT use this stuff for political gain? You'd support the GOP doing it if the situation were reversed, I have no doubt. Your double standard is honestly baffling.
  20. AND the sources of the leak about these emails came from WITHIN the White House! How on EARTH is this a partisan thing??
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 03:18 PM) That is a quality reframing, I will admit that. What it doesn't identify is that this is what is somehow being made public, not what is happening at the intelligence level. Just because we are now learning of it, doesn't mean they are. In fact the whole idea that more and more top secret intelligence is being leaked only reinforces the political nature of this now. So we are back to a political operation that denigrates our entire government stability and standing while risking war with our most dangerous enemy, all in an attempt to delegitimize someone who needs absolutely no help delegitimatizing himself in front of the entire world. Don Jr tweeted it! Sweet jesus.
  22. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 02:46 PM) You keep referring to this investigation of the Trump campaign's collusion with Russia in hacking the election as "politicized." This is a criminal investigation into the extent to which the Trump campaign colluded with Russia in the 2016 election, and the extent to which Trump obstructed justice when he asked Comey to stop investigating Flynn, and then subsequently fired Comey. Previously, Flynn had to resign after failing to disclose contacts with Russians. Today we got e-mails released that prove Donald Trump Jr. (and Kushner and Manafort) met with people who claimed to be Russian operatives in an attempt to receive negative information in Russia's possession that portrayed Hillary Clinton in a negative light - something that is absolutely illegal. What will it take for you to stop calling this "politicized" and start calling it what it is? When it's happening to a Democrat instead of a Republican. He rails against partisanship while every position he takes is born from intense partisanship itself. Love it.
  23. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 12:49 PM) i hope for a day when everyone, both sides of the aisle, can stop saying "well they did it too" and start saying "how can we make sure this never happens again?" This administration has lied and continues to lie about everything related to Russia, and this administration is blaming Obama for not stopping them for dealing with russia. The circular logic is sickening and sad. I know all administrations have lied about things that have happened under their watch, but i think we all can agree that the expanding size and scope of this apparent grift happening in front of our very eyes is very troubling. I just wish someone within could grow a spine and take it all seriously. They have no need to take it seriously until voters like SS2k, etc take it seriously. They've got nothing to gain, otherwise.
  24. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 12:13 PM) McConnell explicitly threatened to turn the issue into a political one and claim Obama was tampering with the election if he came out beforehand. Now I'm sure we'll here how this isn't about unprecedented actions by the entire leadership of the GOP and is actually s sign of both sides being bad (but Democrats worse) I honestly don't care. Grow some balls. Biggest issue I've had with Dems for years is that they've got absolutely no spines.
