  1. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 02:21 PM) Since I'm ragging on Chavez's ability to come out of a slump, I feel it only fair to fire the same question your way. Right Now Konerko has decided he wants to be a pull hitter and is out in front of almost everything. When he connects, it can fly a long way...but when he misses it, it becomes a double play or a foul ball. Paul has shown no indication he wants to try to shorten his swing, stay with a pitch, or drive something the other way. So I ask you, what reason do you have to think that this won't be another 2003 for Paulie? you're saying he isnt trying to fix his swing? thats just not true. theres no way a paul konerko is sitting back and being CONTENT with a .230 average
  2. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 02:19 PM) Are you guys willing to bet 4 losing seasons by the Sox that he will? Because if he doesn't snap out of it...if it is some sort of real problem, that would be the end result. do you know that without a shadow of a doubt? :finger
  3. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 02:18 PM) Whatevr we do I just hope to god we dont resign Konerko. He seems like he is a nice guy and everything but I hate watching him. His fielding isnt bad but 2 bad he has like the smallest range of AL 1B.... Than he is so damn slow and watching him hit and change his batting stance every week :puke .... not 2 mention calling out players in the papers and being a double play machine. Say no to Konerko. i hate reading stuff like this. this is a guy who has really carried this team for the last few years and he's a great guy. he's in a slump, ok, we know how that works. but he's also got talent and he works hard. this wont be 2003 again.
  4. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 02:14 PM) Thus far this season, Chavez has put up worse numbers than Crede for a hell of a lot more money. If Chavez proves to me that he can come back from this terrible start (which he hasn't done yet), then I'll shut my mouth and not complain even if McCarthy becomes trade bait. But I cannot understand the logic of trading for a guy who looks like he has jumped off of a cliff and who is being paid $10 mil a year to do it. We'll pay the same price for him whether or not he turns it around, because of his career numbers. I say wait and see if he has a good June. If he does not, then that means he will have had 3 straight months of being a $10 million Joe Crede. Would you trade for that? some guys have slumps every now and then. as someone else said: SEE PAUL KONERKO Chavez will break out of it
  5. Giovany Gonzalez - S - CWS Gio Gonzalez pitched eight innings of one-hit ball and struck out nine yesterday for Single-A Kannapolis. Gonzalez, who missed some time earlier this month with a strained muscle in his side, is 4-2 with a 1.77 ERA, 29 H and 71/18 K/BB in 45 2/3 IP. The 19-year-old left-hander is one of the better pitching prospects in the low minors. Jun. 1 - 2:40 pm et
  6. Chavez is 28 Chavez has 167 HR Chavez has 566 RBI Chavez has 189 2B Chavez has a .350 OBP Chavez has a .273 AVG Crede is 27 Crede has 57 HR Crede has 207 RBI Crede has 76 2B Crede has a .302 OBP Crede has a .253 AVG hmm that whole thing about crede being better... im not too sure.
  7. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 02:06 PM) Why? Because Chavez is one of the best at his position and McCarthy has proven nothing at the major league level yet? When you get a chance to trade an unproven prospect for a all-star caliber player who would improve your team drastically, you do it hands down. props for that
  8. How about this: Pods Gooch Chavez Frank Paulie Rowand Dye Pierz Uribe Thats beastly i'd give up bmac for that
  9. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 02:04 PM) thank you, i didnt even realize we were going to argue Chavez vs. Crede, come on. kind of ridiculous
  10. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 02:01 PM) 1 thing I want people to keep in mind with Chavez is this... Right now, he's hitting worse than Crede. Crede is hitting .227. Chavez is hitting .218. Chavez's OBP is .276, Crede is at .286. Crede is slugging .368, Chavez is slugging a measly .317. Yes, Chavez plays better defense. But all of the people saying getting Chavez will certainly make us better no matter what would be wise to remember that he is doing a horrific job in the batter's box this season. Absolutely terrible. In other words, you're telling us to trade BMac or someone else very high on the list for a guy making $10 million or so a season and who is hitting worse than Joe Crede, because you're making the assumption that this is a temporary thing and not a full-time problem (i.e. long term injury, got off of steroids, or something like that.) I know Chavez has a record as a positive producer. But right now he is not playing like one. And the last thing I want is for us to be stuck with a guy earning $10 million a year who's career spirals downhill. If we made a deal and he did not return to form, we would be absolutely doomed. For years. We'd lose a ton of salary flexibility, and it would cost us a ton of prospects. You're betting a hell of a lot (the team's future for 5-10 years) on the fact that Chavez can turn it around. check out careers buddy. it says it all. plus hitting is contagious and his environment in Oakland just sucks right now. i'm betting its not much fun and players seem to do better when they're having fun (see Little Big League)
  11. (in a redneck accent) oooh scotty po's on the t-v! I's essited!
  12. i would be extatic if we got Chavez for BMAC and crede Chavez is young, and one of the best 3B in the game and he's very consistent (the beginning of this year excluded) and he's just hitting his prime. Crede just sucks... and bmac... well theres the kicker. He's good, but unproven. I would totally give up an unproven pitcher that we DONT NEED THIS YEAR for a player who could propel us to the playoffs/help us when we're there. it's a no brainer if we really want to win, and i do.
  13. i just call him Scotty Po so... none of the above
  14. lemme just say watching frank bat makes me so happy
  15. so what if we're 33-16, we've been playing SUB 500 BALL for the last two weeks + thats NOT good and we wont continue to be in first if we keep that up. We need to make a trade/do something about dye/everett/crede. I'm ok with Arow, Paulie, Pods, AJ, Iguchi but something HAS to be done to pick up our pitchers.
  16. 3 words: I Hate Hilary and i'm even a dem... EDWARDS '08!
  17. heres the link sounds a lot worse than it is, still - freaky.
  18. Albert Pujols - 1B - STL Albert Pujols was at the hospital yesterday, but not for his own injury. He is fine, but was visiting a two-year-old boy that was hit in the forehead by one of Pujols' foul balls on Monday. He brought the kid an autographed bat, an autographed hat, an autographed baseball card, two autographed baseballs, two batting gloves he wore in a recent game and a pair Nike cleats. He also posed for a Polaroid photograph with the boy and told his parents they could get free game tickets anytime. ''I'm just here to pay some family some respect,'' Pujols said. ''I'm glad he's doing better. He's a nice little kid.'' Very cool. May. 26 - 9:20 am et
  19. i love the rowand commercial!!!! its hilarious, plus its just the sheer randomness factor that i love!
  20. hi dee ho neighbor! (so its what wilson says on home improvement... but how do you spell it?) anyway yeah welcome aboard!!
  21. chavez is actually one of the best 3B in the game. period. he's young, he's got tons of homer potential and he's a proven player. crede sucks and bmac... though i dont want him gone at ALL... is still widely unproven. Im not saying do this deal, but Chavez is a hell of a ballplayer.
  22. QUOTE(Whitesoxfan56 @ May 24, 2005 -> 03:24 PM) NO buehrle is the ace....wow garland had 8 good starts...holy s*** make a spot for him in cooperstown...buehrle has done it since he came up...therefor Buehrle is the ace.case closed dude stop getting your panties in a bunch, it says ace not THE ace - a staff can have more than one, nimrod. (and Randy and Schilling are no longer aces in my book)
  23. personally i liked the article and yes, jon is an ace at the moment. case closed.
