  1. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 03:32 PM) I think we might define the far left differently. Shaun King said back in June or July that he would be voting for Clinton. And Shaun King's causes are usually not that far out of line with the left side of the Democratic Party. The left wing of the party can attempt to push policy left while also voting for Democratic candidates who are up for office. I'm not sure why that would be mutually exclusive - and it certainly hasn't been mutually exclusive among those I know. Generally speaking, you're right. But don't characterize him as a Clinton supporter. It was a very big "hold my nose" vote and he was vocal about that. In the last couple days he has been calling to kick 14 Dem Senators out in their next elections. he's getting a lil crazy.
  2. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 03:32 PM) Reddy 2006 was only 10 years ago, some of the more conservative dems ever won in 2006/2008. The "both parties are the saammmmee, MAAAN" far left crowd suddenly seems to be a lot more realistic when it's actually a republican in office. Remember Nader's vote tank in 04? I am pretty confidnt that while we will see a bunch of primaries, it is not going to be kamikaze missions. Social media makes it a whole different ballgame IMO. But yeah, we'll see.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 03:26 PM) Have fun with eight years of Trump then. At the very least, it will put congress further into GOP hands.
  4. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 03:24 PM) And that's why the far left continues to fail politically. If the far left wants to influence policy, they need to get involved in the Democratic Party because the Republicans will never align with their policy goals and staying home or voting Green just strengthens the Republicans. Agreed. But they're pulling moderates to their cause. I have friends who were die-hard Hillary supporters who are now siding with Shaun King and his ilk. It ain't good.
  5. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 03:14 PM) I think my favorite thing about Brett as a poster is that he keeps calling SS2K a liberal. ^^^^^^
  6. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 02:59 PM) They need to get over themselves, just like the Jill Stein voters. Maybe one day there will be a different system, but for now its generally choice a or b, there is no magical c candidate behind the mystery door. I agree, but they're LOUD and they have a lot of influence in social media unfortunately. Shaun King is one of these people. It's a problem.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 02:41 PM) The left's choices are to vote D or let Trump keep his clean road to do whatever he wants. I am pretty sure this won't be an issue that stops them from voting. You don't know the far left then. They didn't vote for Clinton, and they won't vote for people like Kaine if they think he's not being "tough enough".
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 02:32 PM) I think Trump is doing exactly what Hillary Clinton couldn't do in the last election. Motivate the middle of the political spectrum to vote for a Democrat. Sure, but if you live in my world right now, the far left is LIVID at the Senate Dems for confirming ANY cabinet picks, and for even considering Gorsuch. It's ugly over there.
  9. QUOTE (KagakuOtoko @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 02:24 PM) Want to make a gentlemen's bet that the Repubs get crushed if Trump keeps this up? uh... I don't necessarily believe that. the potential tea-party lite style attacks from the left may just keep the GOP in power.
  10. We are the United States of Russia. This is shocking on so many levels.
  11. There's a National General Strike being planned for February 17th, the last business day before Presidents Day. I highly recommend striking if you can do so without losing your job. Facebook Event Page
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 1, 2017 -> 02:19 PM) Not taking sides but didn't Trump run on these issues? Why is everybody so surprised there's a wall coming and a ban on immigrants? I thought he ran on these issues. And he won the election. So why the outrage now? America elected the guy on these issues. Because just about no one actually thought he'd do it, and he's doing it through executive order, not through legislation. And before you say it, Obama tried legislation BEFORE resorting to EO's at the end of his Presidency.
  13. Seattle is looking like it's going to divest $3 BILLION from Wells Fargo in protest of DAPL. f***. Yes.
  14. QUOTE (New Era on South Side @ Jan 31, 2017 -> 11:27 PM) With all due respect, who thought Trump would be a 3rd term for Obama? Or do you mean we wouldn't expect someone who would rattle the cages too much? Yeah uh... no one thought that.
  15. RBG needs to not die, and Anthony Kennedy needs to not retire like he's now threatening. Dems should block this nom out of principle, but it was a shrewd move by Trump to pick someone reasonable, even if I wholeheartedly disagree with him on everything AND the way he interprets the constitution...
  16. QUOTE (New Era on South Side @ Jan 30, 2017 -> 10:09 PM) I think he'll do just enough to get re-elected, thanks to his base that don't care about the facts and instead feed on the garbage he and Spicer spew on a daily basis. There's a lot of time to see what happens, but if the democrats don't do well in the 2018 midterms, it's going to be difficult to get him out of office in 2020. Plus, all presidents since Clinton have had two terms. Also, what is Trump going to do for moderate college educated white guys like me? What the hell do you need him to do for you?? Hoping that was supposed to be green...
  17. Two weeks in and it's vacation time for Trump! Pathetic. http://www.palmbeachpost.com/news/transpor...WBGkSmGjC6GioJ/
  18. QUOTE (brett05 @ Jan 30, 2017 -> 01:58 PM) Excuses in case the vote doesn't go how you want it? I assume you deny the existence of gerrymandering as well, right?
  19. What about nominating a guy who literally supports the destruction of the organization he's picked to lead? I don't think that should be given wide latitude. #Pruitt
  20. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 30, 2017 -> 11:27 AM) I'll just claim ignorance here but shouldn't these folks be arrested or something for disobeying court orders? This is the part where, if you check out that article I posted that's been shared by Shaun King on social media, it hypothesizes that this is a test to see what they can get away with in ignoring the courts. It's a terrifying, terrifying proposition.
  21. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 30, 2017 -> 11:11 AM) Was pretty awesome to march among thousands last night at a pro-immigration/refugee rally last night in downtown Seattle. Seattle and Boston's marches looked YUUUUGE
  22. QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 30, 2017 -> 10:33 AM) Conway was on GMA spouting the same thing while trying to redirect to veterans who needs help. I can't stand that woman. Can you imagine what she will look like in 4 years? I agree with you but boo misogyny.
  23. Well this is just terrifying. Trial Balloon for a Coup?
  24. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 29, 2017 -> 10:27 AM) The problem is that Trump isn't the enemy for half this country. He's doing all the god awful things his campaign promised he would do. Those of us whose moral code is built around acceptance & tolerance may be up in arms over what is effectively a Muslim ban, but I can promise you there are millions of uneducated hillbillies & straight-up racists who view this as a huge win for our country. How can we overcome this when we're effectively outnumbered? Trump and his base are WOEFULLY outnumbered. Democrats have won more votes in just about every single election for the last decade - from congress to the white house. Gerrymandering is the only reason we're here today. There are FAR more of us than there are of them. And we're finally getting loud.
  25. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 29, 2017 -> 07:20 AM) Donate, place calls, get involved, etc. I'm joining a group on Tuesday night whose plan is to write thousands of post cards for delivery to certain offices. Do what we can, I guess. Supporting the ACLU, protesting (because it really does piss Trump off) and divesting from big banks may be our best weapons.
