  2. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 10:44 AM) I'd much rather have Emilio Bonifacio over Drew. But Drew hit .162 last year!!!
  3. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 11:45 AM) lol how did I miss this thread? Holy crap one of my favs. haha
  4. QUOTE (lvjeremylv @ Dec 28, 2014 -> 02:26 AM) Just two. The first is called Wins. The second is called Losses. That's all that matters. And yet they don't matter when evaluating pitchers?
  5. QUOTE (Douglas Rome @ Dec 27, 2014 -> 06:54 AM) you guys prolly don't spank your kids either. Most of these modern players are big spoiled crybabies and so rich they could care less. If I was manager, no facial hair, no jewelry, butch crew hair cut and if they don't like it they don't play. thanks, douglas Old people and the internet. Priceless.
  6. I wonder how Douglas feels about Joe Maddon.
  7. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Dec 26, 2014 -> 10:47 AM) Leave Robin alone. As someone said I want W's not a clown in a press conference. LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE!
  8. QUOTE (Douglas Rome @ Dec 25, 2014 -> 11:45 AM) how about a manager? RV sucks, boring, booooring! get someone who has a pulse. thanks, douglas So much for being a damn good post. Lol
  9. QUOTE (AlSoxfan @ Dec 16, 2014 -> 08:49 AM) Yes, I guess I figured he just got mad and said anybody can pitch as good as you guys. Which I can't say I blame him, but still the game was tied. It felt like to me he was frustrated and gave up. What?? He had used all of his pitchers... What should he have done? Send Coop out there to throw?
  10. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 16, 2014 -> 08:43 AM) How many statistics are out there for quantifying manager effectiveness? I just read an entire article about it. But that's also my point. You're all basing his worth as manager on the fact that we've had some s***ty teams. Players seem to like playing for him. We just signed all the free agents. There must be a reason players want to be here, right?
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 16, 2014 -> 08:36 AM) And people have thought that "but the Giants would have wanted him back" is a defense of him. See how every one of these defenses turns back so easily? What? No. The two things I mentioned were specific punishments for how he handled his suspension. You've got no argument left.
  12. QUOTE (ron883 @ Dec 15, 2014 -> 11:19 PM) I'm glad some people feel the same way I do. I just can't morally bring myself to support this team. I have zero respect for roiders. Signing a third roider to this team? I don't want this to be thought of like the Bosox teams that were fueled by steroids. Maybe it will get better if this team is winning, but I just can't bring myself to cheer for Melky. So don't? Lol Every team from the last 20 years (including the 05 Sox!) was fueled by steroids, you just didn't know about it.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 16, 2014 -> 08:14 AM) And lying to investigators = 0 punishment. Not zero punishment! He was left off the Giants playoff roster once reinstated, and he was ruled ineligible to win the batting title. So....... You done yet?
  14. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 16, 2014 -> 08:16 AM) I would agree. Short of long term injuries to key players, Ventura has good players to work with and his worth as a manager should be evident. Good or Bad. I tend to agree with your assessment so far, he is right around average. However, I do think he still has room to grow as he gains experience, especially experience with a team with decent talent. It's hard to learn which players to use in a given situation when the players suck. I'd be curious as to why everyone thinks he's average, or below. Are there statistics? Is it the eye test? Or is it that he bears the brunt of frustrations when the team is full of crappy players?
  15. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 15, 2014 -> 11:32 PM) I wish I could read the entire article to better comment, but it sounds like you're saying he rode the hot hand successfully, which is a lot easier to accomplish when you have a bunch of unproven relievers. Like Caulfield mentioned, if Robertson struggles next year, Robin will likely give him closing opportunities until he snaps out of his funk. I'm guessing the metrics in the article you posted would fault him for that. Caulfields point is a good one, but it doesn't refute the fact that Ventura did a good job with the bullpen he had last year, end of story, and that is backed up by statistics.
  16. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 15, 2014 -> 11:11 PM) This is a great point. We had a bunch of nobody relievers last year. Not sure I'm going to give Robin a lot credit for ditching any of them fairly quickly. The point is that he got the most out of his terrible bullpen, and that's something to be commended. If you believed this board, the opposite was true. Fortunately the statistics are on Robin's side.
  17. I mentioned this in another thread and was laughed at, but I finally found the article on BP the actual statistical analysis are in charts on the page, but I didn't wanna copy/paste everything because it's a subscriber thing. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article....articleid=25011 So stop your damn whining! RV is a very solid manager.
  18. From the comments of the Jake Sullivan article: Excellent point. I'm excited to see what ZIPs has to say in comparison to Steamer.
  19. May have been posted already, but: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-white-s...very-good-team/ this is literally Jake's post. Jake are you Jeff Sullivan?
  20. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Dec 15, 2014 -> 12:26 PM) Melky is a defensive upgrade over Viciedo in LF and LaRoche upgrades 1B when he plays the field. How did the Sox not upgrade defensively? BARELY Melky is still a butcher in LF
  21. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 15, 2014 -> 10:35 AM) Lol. You crack me up. You disgust me, so we're even.
  22. QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 15, 2014 -> 06:53 AM) ummm Brett Anderson, Chad Billingsley, anyone. Yes to Billingsley. I'll never get over my love for him.
  23. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 15, 2014 -> 11:23 AM) Last two years at AAA? You are really going to take a 39 plate appearance sample size and equate that to a year? He was bad in 2013 and much better in 2014. I'm guessing his overall talent level is closer to 2014 based on reports from the AAA team, including Sanchez getting out of shape and somewhat complacent. He worked a lot harder prior to the season last year (and seemingly during the season) and it paid off. I think he can be a decent regular but I think the Sox are going to go with Micah Johnson when he proves he's ready. I'm on a phone in JFK in the midst of the worst travel nightmare I've ever experienced. Good call. 39 PA does not a year make.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 15, 2014 -> 11:09 AM) If I am reading this table right, the MLB average OPS by 2B in 2014 was .686. If the guy hits his minor league OPS, and plays the good defense we saw, he is at very least, a league average player. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/sortable...php?cid=1681191 If he hits .686 I'll be totally happy with that. Last two years at AAA he was sub-.600. Last year showed encouraging progress. I would LOVE for it to continue, but I just think it's premature to call him "solid". He hasn't shown that yet.
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 15, 2014 -> 11:05 AM) In 2014 baseball, his offense isn't as offensive as it was a few years back. Well yeah, there's a reason Juan Lagares is the best CF in the game, but Sanchez is no Lagares.
