  1. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 15, 2014 -> 11:00 AM) Danny Santana has a career .708 OPS in the minors then got called up and put up a .824 OPS in 430 PA. Whether that is the outliner or the norm, there have been a ton of players who have over achieved in the bigs. Sanchez might not be average, but I'm willing to find out first instead of writing him off. He tends to settle down after he reaches a level the following year. I'm one of his biggest fans here (love Micah too though, bigger upside) so I believe he will succeed. He'll probably be one of the better fastball hitters on this team already. I'm not writing him off, but to say that all of our holes have been filled with "solid MLB-caliber starters" like Balta did just seems like a stretch to me, at 2B and C specifically, with 3B another potential question mark.
  2. QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 15, 2014 -> 10:54 AM) i don't know, i can't think right now, its is monday and i am slam. but i think you just flip and flop in this thread... maybe it is me. sorry. i can't think now. You missed my sarcasm. No worries.
  3. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 15, 2014 -> 10:46 AM) Let's wait until he actually plays a full season shall we? Unless the 104 career PA was enough for you to make that judgment. This isn't Dayan Viciedo we're talking about here. This is assuming Micah isn't ready of course. For the record, I'm all about Micah if he's healthy.
  4. QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 15, 2014 -> 10:50 AM) and you could see in the future. uh. Well. More that his underlying metrics don't look all that great. Statistics is hard.
  5. QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 15, 2014 -> 10:48 AM) compared to what???? there is a lot more horrible thing out there. using PED pales to a rapist, a child abuser..... get the ridiculousness of what you are stating. wake up and change the subject, this accomplish nothing. Lol I don't think you understand. I couldn't care less that Melky did roids. And the premise of this thread is, I agree, ridiculous.
  6. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 15, 2014 -> 10:46 AM) Let's wait until he actually plays a full season shall we? Unless the 104 career PA was enough for you to make that judgment. This isn't Dayan Viciedo we're talking about here. This is assuming Micah isn't ready of course. .671 OPS over three seasons at AAA, albeit young for the level.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 15, 2014 -> 11:37 AM) Where on Earth did I say that? "Solid MLB-caliber starter at 2b" = "Dustin Pedroia or better"? There's not a world in which Carlos Sanchez should ever be considered " solid"
  8. QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 15, 2014 -> 11:34 AM) but at the time, did anyone know of it?? we can not look at it after the fact. What!? So you're not ashamed that a PED user was a part of our championship squad?
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 15, 2014 -> 11:08 AM) Frankly, no, I'm not going to say those moves were bad. Rick Hahn pulled a rabbit out of his hat and has a solid roster with a legit MLB starter at every positions, a solid pitching staff, and a seemingly solid bullpen. But yeah, if this team comes out of the gates 10-15 and it's the same April clown show we've seen the last couple years and then winds up missing the playoffs, there's a pretty clear, well-earned fall guy. He's got a roster with a huge salary boost, literally filled every single missing hole, and at least key guy in that is on a 1 year contract and a free agent at the end of this year. Darn well better expect them to be prepared to win now. I didn't realize Carlos Sanchez was suddenly Dustin Pedroia.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 15, 2014 -> 11:16 AM) Last year, once teams got into the range of ~30 fWAR, the had a decent shot at being competitive for the playoffs. In that list I added up over 28.5 based on the projections. It's also remarkable how it projects literally every single white sox starting pitcher to have a worse season than last year, by a lot. Steamer has projected regression in seemingly everyone this year regardless of team. Bizarre, since in the past it was a pretty optimistic projection system IIRC
  11. Garner's death was also ruled a homicide and we all know what happened there. Means nothing. Justice doesn't exist in America.
  12. QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 15, 2014 -> 07:21 AM) perfect post. Pablo Ozuna's steroid suspension renders the post imperfect.
  13. Haha sooooo much pearl clutching going on. That high horse, balta. How DO you feel about the 2005 White Sox and their roider-infused roster?
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 02:26 PM) I'd be curious to see the supporting data there. Trying to find it, but in the meantime: http://baltimoresportsandlife.com/baltimor...s/manager-year/
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 12:42 PM) Joe Maddon can, and anyone who replaces Robin Ventura adds a lot more than that. Statistically speaking, RV was the best in baseball at bullpen management last year. He's a good manager.
  16. by the way. I don't actually want to trade Sale. Lemme be clear.
  17. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 03:50 PM) Any trade for Sale would have to be bananas and include multiple young MLB + players, not all prospects. Absolutely. But with our payroll flexibility, you trade Sale at his highest possible value, AND sign one of the aces on the market like Scherzer, and you've just stacked your team in two moves.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 03:45 PM) Nope. It is completely bat s*** crazy. Boston could offer their entire top 5 prospect list, and I would turn it down as not enough. I don't specifically mean Boston. I agree re: their prospects.
  19. I had the same reaction as you guys, but if you think about it. Kid's value has never been higher - you could command ANYTHING for him. And we all know there's a distinct possibility his arm falls off in the near future. Maybe it won't. Maybe he's a freak of nature. But we all know what happened to the other "Freak" (Lincecum). Just saying, maybe...... maybe it's not as completely bat-s*** crazy as it sounds.
  20. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 01:26 PM) I don't have a problem with an assault/battery charge. Murder or manslaughter? I don't think I can go that far. Not with the info on the internet anyway. If the experts say that the chokehold is the major cause of the death, then I'd be ok with it. So you agree he should've been indicted, which only means there is probable cause to charge him with SOMETHING
  21. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 01:22 PM) I think i'm being entirely logical. I'm telling you there appears to be a causation problem. You've yet to address that. And I think everyone should be treated equally. Including cops how make terrible, tragic mistakes, but are still just mistakes that don't deserve decades or life in prison. REGULAR PEOPLE WHO MAKE TRAGIC MISTAKES GO TO PRISON
  22. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 01:20 PM) I mean I suppose that's a fair point, but when you have a video of the entire incident, I again go back to the question of causation. And if experts testified and couldn't say that the choke hold caused the death, well, then, what's the point of a trial other than to appease people like you who want some blood, regardless? Prosecutors control the presentation of evidence, and they thus control the jury. Prosecutors in this situation don't WANT indictments because they don't want to make enemies of the police, since they RELY on police cooperation to do their job. If a prosecutor doesn't want an indictment, and the DA doesn't want an indictment, what do you think will happen? The system is broken.
  23. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 01:18 PM) Um, good? I'd hate to be defined by talking heads like you. I'd hate to be defined by a lack of compassion, reason, and logic like you, so we're even. I'd hate to believe that not all people deserve to be treated equally. I honestly pity you.
  24. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 01:17 PM) It's not "illegal," it's in violation of NYPD procedures. Violation of a procedure isn't a criminal act. That's assault and battery, not murder. If you get into a fight with someone and they die 2 hours later, that may or may not be manslaughter. But you still have to prove that the fight and whatever damage you did caused the death. What i'm arguing here is that it's not crystal clear that the choke hold lead to the death. That was one of several factors cited by the med. examiner, and who knows what they and other experts testified to during the GJ hearings. And while the guy was non-violent, he was still resisting. Just to be clear. Doesn't make the officer's actions any better, but it does excuse the other officers who handcuffed him. I love how liberals are all "justice for all!" until it's convenient. until it's convenient? explain.
