  1. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 10, 2017 -> 05:18 PM) It's fairly industry agnostic, but the media industry for sure has a big share, just look at the Fox News or Bill Cosby revelations. It takes so much to break into that industry that people are afraid of it being taken away. You'll see it in high level corporate culture as well. Sometimes you blame the women for "sleeping their way to the top" but in reality they are being completely abused. My uneducated guess is as follows: Corey Feldman was right (I hate saying that because the guy is so unpredictable) and that there was some sort of network of high powered executives protecting each other. The "casting couch" ideology goes way back in Hollywood and the cycle probably has never really been broken. I mean if people like Paltrow were being put in these situations ( http://www.tmz.com/2017/10/10/gwyneth-palt...on-allegations/ ), who came from a famous family, imagine what actresses/actors who came from nothing put up with? When you read the Paltrow article you see that even she had "fear" that her career would be over if she reported it. Its such an impossible position for them, if they tell they may lose their career and nothing may happen to the perpatrator. If they do nothing, they may be set for life.
  2. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 10, 2017 -> 05:12 PM) They should be. But there are a lot of people showing outrage in the past few days, who knew about it for 5, 10, even 20 years and said nothing about it. Now it comes out because they have to answer to the public in this modern age of media. A lot of Hollywood is really no different than Penn State in this situation. And hopefully those people are found out and pay the appropriate price. Whether they are in Hollywood or elsewhere, it doesnt matter.
  3. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Oct 10, 2017 -> 05:01 PM) Did you read the New Yorker piece? Yep I read the whole piece. As well as the Matt Damon interview where he contradicts the author. http://deadline.com/2017/10/matt-damon-har...iew-1202185574/ Do I know who is telling the truth? No Do I believe in the next few days/weeks an avalanche of information is likely to leak out? Yes These stories in Hollywood have floated around forever. There is a lot of stuff about Corey Haim and Corey Feldman: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/core...ollywood-897403 The most disturbing part is that even though this allegations against Hollywood have existed for years, no one really does anything. There is a lot more to this story than one guy, its an entire culture of abuse/crime.
  4. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Oct 10, 2017 -> 04:50 PM) WTF are you talking about? Other people should be blamed!!! They knew what this monster was doing for DECADES and did nothing to stop him. As I said before, as soon as their credible evidence as to who knew/hid what then well have something, and those people should be held accountable. As of now you are speculating, we have no idea who knew what. Weinstein was a millionaire, Im sure his attorneys did a good job of hiding what was going on. You really think that they put "SETTLING RAPE CASE" in bold red letters at the top of communications? My guess is that there were a bunch of NDA's etc (which many of the actresses have confirmed) with his company and the board as well. Im sure it was spun as "There is no credibility to this case but its cheaper to settle than to take the press hit." And therein lies the problem. Until the whole "blame the victim" culture goes away, its very hard for victims to defend themselves. The risk is extremely high and often not at all worth the reward.
  5. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Oct 10, 2017 -> 04:45 PM) Oh please. Pointing that out doesn't mean I don't condemn this sick f*** and what he did. Then what was the point of your post? Its entirely speculative and we have no way of knowing who knew what. If credible evidence comes out that X person helped hide something, than that person should go down (terrible pun and not intentional) as well. I dont care if they are a Republican or Democrat.
  6. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Oct 10, 2017 -> 04:43 PM) And plenty of women in power new of this stuff and did nothing to prevent it. Don't peg this on men alone. As I said before, where the hell is the board at his company after all the settlements keep getting paid? So far I've read of one senior executive that confronted Weinstein about this (male). Even the women execs did nothing. Who cares if it is men or women? The guy appears to be a criminal, plenty of people have their reasons for not reporting criminal activity. Im going to guess that Weinstein knew a lot of secrets that could sink a lot of people. Maybe those executives werent rapists, but its Hollywood, you have to imagine there is a lot of illegal drugs, etc. Again we are taking focus away from a criminal and trying to blame other people.
  7. QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Oct 10, 2017 -> 04:36 PM) Oh FFS! Tick tock Mueller, Congress https://www.bloomberg.com/amp/news/articles...-to-south-korea Seems like "fake" news. I dont buy for a second that a guy like Trump would go anywhere near harm. He didnt even visit the Mexican border due to "security concerns."
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 10, 2017 -> 04:21 PM) No, we can still talk about how the GOP doesnt care about women, but it turns out high powered men, regardless of political leaning, continue to abuse women with no repercussions. No no, lets make political points instead of focusing on criminal behavior. We should never come together as a society to condemn this.
  9. QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Oct 10, 2017 -> 03:47 PM) The fact that we are even talking about young men dying on the field is reason enough to, you know, entertain the thought that maybe humans shouldn't play football? Humans die doing pretty much anything. The question is about risk. Rock Climbing, Surfing, Race Car driving, Skiing, Luge all could end in fatalities.
  10. QUOTE (ptatc @ Oct 10, 2017 -> 03:41 PM) I don't think there will be that many lawsuits. I deal with injuries at the high school and Colleges on a daily basis. Other than a few deaths on the field I have yet to be involved with a lawsuit. Why would this condition be any different? It wont. Soccer has a ton of concussions as well, no one even talks about it. Not to mention most of the money is in lawsuits for players from the past. Any new lawsuit would have to show that the team/Dr let someone play while they had a concussion.
  11. Not sure the statute of limitations on all of the actions as they likely occurred in different states, but id say outside chance he faces criminal charges.
  12. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Oct 10, 2017 -> 02:00 PM) IGN seems very convinced that entire trailer was meant to misdirect, as they would other wise give away WAY to many major scenes, like Kylo killing Leia, and Kylo and Rey making nice. Yeah, I think its pretty obvious they are splicing scenes together. IE Rey is likely talking to Luke about "her place" not Kylo. That being said they are definitely setting Rey up to be an extremely powerful force user. I believe that the "quake" will be the first weve seen in the movies, but it has been in video games etc.
  13. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 9, 2017 -> 04:26 PM) He didn't even go, did he? I thought the picture he posted was from 3 years ago, which is why everyone has been making fun of him for faking the whole thing to provoke outrage I hadnt heard that.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 9, 2017 -> 04:13 PM) lol @ common courtesy. That isn't even reality in politics. It was. While Bush and Obama may have disagreed on politics, they have always had a respectful relationship. Its fine if you want to normalize this type of s***.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 9, 2017 -> 03:23 PM) Yeah as usual, one side loves it, and the other side thinks it is the worst thing ever. To me it isnt about sides, which is why I brought up something that would be a more "liberal" position. Same way I wouldnt have supported if someone was invited to a Redskins - Giants game and then left because the Redskins didnt change their name before the game started. Its just common courtesy, it isnt about sides. Maybe its time to stop caring about "sides" and start speaking out against bad behavior. (edit) And its not the "worst thing ever" its just way beneath the office of VP. This is a stunt id expect out of a 12 year old.
  16. Im somewhat shocked that there hasnt been more blow back over the Pence thing. Personally I find it pretty disrespectful to be invited to someones place of business and then you make a spectacle of yourself. Its like going to a friends house for thanksgiving and then leaving because they served turkey. Just terrible manners.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 5, 2017 -> 12:15 PM) The problem with any of the commonly given "Yes, but what about..."'s is that none of the others are constitutionally protected. There aren't many constitutional equals to gun rights that are up for debate... thinking more about it, maybe voting rights? Then again like abortion, the people who want common sense gun laws tend to be the ones who favor no voting restrictions and the ones who want no gun restrictions want voting restrictions. Politically, it is fascinating to me. Who are these people who want no voting restrictions or abortion restrictions? Ive actually never seen anyone say that "anyone irrespective of age/citizenship should be able to vote" nor have I heard "abortions should be allowed at anytime without any restriction."
  18. Only way the Sox could have done better is if the Yankees knew theyd be good and started a bidding war with Red Sox. The problem was at the time I believe NYY thought they werent making the playoffs this year.
  19. Im so angry with the fake news about how Obama had been anti-gun. Who knew that the NRA was for gun control and Obama was against it?
  20. QUOTE (ptatc @ Oct 4, 2017 -> 01:45 PM) If you are trained with them there is no reason to be scared to death of them. The obvious answer would be that everything would be better if there were no guns. However, that is not feasible in this country. I can honestly say that over 40 years of hunting since I was 10 no one I know has ever had an accident or been shot. Maybe if everybody was trained as a child we wouldn't have the issues of people becoming fascinated with them. It's way of live where I grew up and nobody had issues. I really don't know the answer other than a good place to start is to somehow restrict high capacity magazines in some capacity. I know I would want to give up my shotguns and rifles for my hobbies, sports and protection against coyotes and such on the farm. The real problem is that a small extreme views seem to drown out what the majority of America would agree on. Whenever ideas are brought up about gun regulation it always ends in "This is the first step to taking our guns away."
  21. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Oct 3, 2017 -> 05:38 PM) I'm just not sure what the bolded means at this point. The Republicans' economic platform, really since Reagan, has been to cut taxes to the wealthy and let it all trickle down. On the spending side, it's been either deficits don't matter (Reagan and Bush II) or slashing spending. If financial conservatism means pushing government to be more efficient with its allocation of resources, I'm in favor of it! If financial conservatism means slashing budgets (except for the military) and cutting the safety net, I'm against it. Was about to ask what that meant as well because in the last few "conservative" economics have completely flipped.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 3, 2017 -> 04:44 PM) If there is no such influence on campaigns, why is the left still talking about Russia? Cant speak for anyone else, but im still talking about Russia because they violated a treaty with the US when they invaded Ukraine.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 3, 2017 -> 03:35 PM) Um duh. But like I said years ago, when you use this same terminology to describe moderates, it loses all meaning and opens the door for the truly incompetent. Trump just happened to walk in and be the recipient of it. Sadly with the divide still out there, he stands a way too good of a shot at re-election. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 3, 2017 -> 03:45 PM) It gave us the two worst political candidates in modern history, you might be OK with that, I am not. But like you said, it is OK when it benefits your guy. The first post is ironic when you add the second post. Guess you think Jill Stein is better than Hillary? And that Eugue McCarthy guy was definitely better...
  24. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Oct 3, 2017 -> 02:33 PM) I do wonder what role the mass media has on these cases. Let's assume the media treats these mass shootings as they treat suicides - you never hear about them except in rare circumstances; does that lessen the likelihood that the events would take place? If the sick f***s don't become instant celebrities, do they still have the desire to do it? Its not even mass shootings, its people like Charles Manson etc. A lot of crimes are done to get attention, but there is simply no way to get every media outlet to agree not to report on it. And with social media there is just no way to effectively prevent it. Its only a matter of time before an attack is live streamed.
  25. Ptatc pretty much said everything I was going to say with respect to Trubisky.
