  1. Any poll that Trump isnt leading is fake news. So each week we have to tune into #Fakenews to find out which news is #RealNews and which news is #Fakenews. You also may or may not see an infomercial about some awesome place in Palm Beach where you can watch the new "Donald Trump Show."
  2. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 10:35 AM) While I will generally push back against the "save your energy for the important things" takes, this is one of those things that should really be taken seriously and pushed back on in a sustained and universal way. But I think this one requires universal dem official action vs. organic/grassroots stuff. Nah its normal for the President to shill for his business. I mean its completely normal for a President to introduce a foreign dignitary to a bride because "she has paid a fortune" to his club.
  3. There is really no point in arguing. The reason they are against Obamacare is the "Obama" part. You had states that Obama offered federal funds to, who turned it down because it came from Obama. There is simply no rational argument, its just personal dislike. Say what you want about Democrats/Republicans, but if Trump/Republicans want to pass better cheaper healthcare, Ill cheer them on. I just dont think they have the capability to do it, seeing as theyve had almost 8 years to figure it out and have no plan yet.
  4. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 10, 2017 -> 02:18 PM) Trump brings up vote fraud again, this time in meeting with senators He's now claiming that "thousands" of MA residents illegally voted in NH. Crazy people with a poor grasp on reality now run our country. Be thankful. If he wasnt such a cluster, he may actually get things done. As it is, hes likely to keep re-litigating the past and not be able to move forward. He makes Bush look like a rocket scientist, because at least Bush understood there was nothing to gain by arguing about something he won.
  5. QUOTE (brett05 @ Feb 10, 2017 -> 01:58 PM) I don't care an iota about race outside of the one we all are a part of...the human race. Yes, liberals over the past 8 years have been making gains in the highest positions in government. Oh wait. That's the opposite of what has been happening. https://www.google.com/#q=gains+made+by+reb...ns+last+8+years I don't know if this is the last chance for Liberals for the foreseeable future. Wouldn't be shocked however. Youre talking about the past, I am talking about the future. Republican's are terrified, that is why they refused to vote on Garland, its why they continually harp on "voter fraud", its why as of today there is not even close to a consensus on how to replace Obamacare. In 1775 Im sure that there people in England saying "Who cares that the colonies want to be represented, weve never lost a war to a colony before." Times they are a changing and you can thank Trump for opening Pandora's box. I honestly believe that one day people will look back on Trump's election with the belief he did more for the liberal platforms than Hillary being elected ever could have. If any normal person would have been the Republican candidate, you wouldnt have gotten this backlash. But Trump has decided he wants to make enemies with the majority of the population, he wants to make enemies of the judiciary, enemies of anyone who ever has the audacity to question him. Guys like that eventually find themselves on the wrong side of history.
  6. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 10, 2017 -> 01:27 PM) Sorry. Wrong. Trumpism will dominate America for 1000 years! There probably is some conspiracy out there where you make public schools bad by appointing Devos and then you make college extremely expensive, so that most americans cant go to college and thus Trump reigns forever! EASY D EASY D
  7. QUOTE (brett05 @ Feb 10, 2017 -> 12:16 PM) There is no mobilization. It's the same folks that just got done voting. The fear that you think is there is the last hope of the liberals. Nah, time is on liberals side. Every year America becomes more diverse, less white. Look at the numbers, Trump did horrific with non-whites. This is your last stand, your battle of the bulge. Yes there was a setback, but liberals will still win the day eventually. http://college.usatoday.com/2016/11/09/how...al-orientation/ Those graphs have to be terrifying to you, unless you think "whites no degree" are the future of the USA?
  8. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 10, 2017 -> 10:39 AM) I'd rather draft a QB as well. With that being said, my top QB target would be Tyrod Taylor if he gets released. I could live with Garoppolo for a 2nd rounder + if Pace believes he's the guy. With only 1 year left on his contract its just too risky. If he busts, hes a free agent next year and then youd have to re-sign him so the trade doesnt look terrible. If he does good, you are talking about giving a guy a Oswieler deal on 1 year of play. If he was 1 year into his deal, Id consider it, but with 1 year left, not really something Id be interested in.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 10, 2017 -> 09:55 AM) I know it is probably irrational but I fully expect if we make a trade with the Patriots that Rick Mirer will get off of that plane. The Patriots just scream system. People go there and because super-human, and when they leave, they are never the same. We already saw that with their last back up QB they traded. There are so many things just screaming at me that this will fail, I'd rather just go through the draft and try that way. I cant agree more. In no universe should the Bears trade for him, unless the Patriots are giving him away for a pick that is lower than the 4th round. Otherwise the Bears need all the picks they can get.
  10. QUOTE (brett05 @ Feb 10, 2017 -> 10:07 AM) The biggest issue is that there is no chance that the Dems take anything in two years and all pundits point to a ground loss in 2018. You mean those fake news sites who predicted that Hillary would win and Democrats would keep the Senate and maybe take the House? 2 years is a long time, a lot of red states have a lot of people who use Obamacare, ever seen how people react when you take something away from them? Maybe Republicans gain, maybe they dont. But the fear is already creeping in, and its only been a month. Trump did something Hillary couldnt, he mobilized the left in a way that I have never seen in my life. He basically turned Twitter into a political weapon and now the left is using that weapon against him and his party. The people with the huge Twitter followers are generally liberal. Another case of, unintended consequences.
  11. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 10, 2017 -> 09:54 AM) Board Question: There was a decent article sometime back comparing how Trump could end up like Jimmy Carter, in that Carter fumbled his relationship with a majority dem congress so badly nothing of substance passed. If tax reform and ACA measures can't get passed (say takes too long then Dems gain the House in 18), do we see it as remotely possible Trump would be primaried? 4 years is a long time, and Trump could easily get things back on track for himself. The problem is Trump's personality. He just seems unable to even handle the slightest critique or set back. This court case is the perfect example. Instead of pulling the EO and deciding to fight another day on a battlefield that is better for him, he decides to dig in and compound his problems. It is likely because he refuses to listen to anyone but himself, because as he has said, Trump is smarter than everyone. All he has to do is say: "I respect the judiciary and after reading their opinion and discussing with my staff we are going to create a new better safer EO that will be the most magical EO ever." Instead he is going to keep taking PR hits about losses. And if he takes this appeal to the Supreme Court, he likely loses as well. Now if he fights it out at the circuit court level to completion, then appeals, he likely has a much better chance at winning. But that would take a long time. Trump just isnt used to this type of litigation, he is used to being able to use time/money to wear and grind his opponent down. Unfortunately he is on the other side, where he needs quick relief, and that just isnt going to be possible. SEE YOU IN COURT!
  12. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 9, 2017 -> 08:48 PM) Increased security for the judges involved, who are receiving threats. http://www.cnn.com/2017/02/09/politics/jud...rder/index.html Those type of people dont get this wont help them win. Lawyers and judges have been killed by clients, killed by defendants, killed by people who dislike their rulings. Saddest part is, those people are afraid of refugees that most likely they would never even interact with. But I guess they have to keep people like me who live in cities safe, because those refugees are the real threat, not the people who threaten judges and lawyers. KEEP AMERICA SAFE AGAIN, SEE YOU IN COURT.
  13. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 9, 2017 -> 05:48 PM) They already said she has been "counseled" When are they going to "counsel" Spicer for telling people to stay at Trump hotels and to buy Ivanka clothing That was before the official action.
  14. https://oversight.house.gov/wp-content/uplo...ement-FINAL.pdf Looks like Chaffetz being on blast all day may have gotten some action.
  15. Bush is more fiscally responsible than Trump, that shouldnt shock anyone.
  16. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 9, 2017 -> 11:30 AM) He got me on that part of it. I thought it was strictly a 100% ego thing, I never caught on to him trying to increase his net worth. My first thought was it will cost him money and worth because he will be so disliked, but he is making money so far. It was always about the money, nobody even knows if Trump really is as rich as he claimed, thats why this election was about "Making Trump Rich Again". Pretty sure i said that somewhere in the hundreds of pages about Trump.
  17. Dont worry guys Chaffetz is on the case! He has a 43 point to do list and not one of those points is to look into anything related to Trump. That being said, I hear he will continue to look into Hillary's emails, so Greg should be happy.
  18. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 12:55 PM) Sure you can, so long as it passes strict scrutiny. Not all constitutional rights/rules are absolute. I dont believe any rights are absolute. That being said, I also dont believe that this will pass strict scrutiny and I am not even sure that this would even be the appropriate standard as strict scrutiny applies to legislature, not executive orders. What is interesting is that the Republican's may have inadvertently sunk Trump a year ago in a different case: https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archiv...gration/415077/
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 12:11 PM) This policy isn't even that smart. This is more like denying ALL Germans admission so that we can keep the Jews out. The explicit and stated target here IS Muslims. The administration has flat out stated this on many occasions, and this policy is consistent with their statements. I agree, but I wanted to take it 1 step further. That even if the intention was to ban immigration from a certain country, and it wasnt a thinly veiled attempt at a religious ban, I would not agree with it. To use Jenks example, if Iran- US went to war, I would not agree with banning all Iranians. I dont like to paint with that broad of a brush, and its ironic/sad that certain Republican's now feel that this okay. Arent they the ones who tell me that we shouldnt ban guns because not all gun owners are criminals? So why should we ban all Iranians/Germans/whatever, if not all of them are terrorists/criminals/etc?
  20. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 12:03 PM) I'm no constitutional lawyer, but do those rights extend to non-citizens? I wouldn't think so, but knowing our SCOTUS decisions on illegal immigrants i'm sure the law is every citizen of the world has constitutional rights. Also, recent history aside, is this a decision we want on our books? That our government can't deny a class of aliens from entering the country? What if we go to war against Iran? Wouldn't we want to be able to bar them? Jenks, Non-citizens who are currently in the US have rights in the US. Non-citizens not currently in the US, without any sort of visa/greencard etc, would have no US rights. Is this a decision we want on the books? Absolutely. Or do you think it would be okay to deny every German from entering the US, even if they were a Jew, in WWII? Blanket restrictions are lazy and overreaching.
  21. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 10:55 AM) Look, there's no excusing a lot of what he does. I'm not at all trying to defend that. I'm with you all that many of his executive orders fly against what makes our country great and 95% of what his admn says is false and embarrassing and completely un-Presidential. But that doesn't mean we have to go to the extreme and continually remark how he's Hitler 2.0 or that the country is doomed or that we're all f***ed because of what he's doing. Guess what guys, he won the election. He gets to do what he wants (within constitutional restraints). That's how this game is set up. Is jokingly saying you're going to ruin a state lawmaker's career worse than FDR trying to pack the court? Are we pretending like a President has never tried to monopolize power or assert his authority before? Again, not excusing it, just trying to put it into perspective. Well I agree and disagree. I absolutely agree that if you keep comparing Trump to Hitler that it will eventually just become noise and then people wont be able to discern what is a "disaster" versus a "mistake." I disagree with the fact that people should not be able to express their opinions on what they believe. Just because FDR/Obama/ did it, doesnt mean that we as a country should let it continue to happen, it doesnt mean we shouldnt question whether it is right or wrong. Maybe what he is doing is within his power, maybe it isnt, but if you dont think it is in his power or if you think it shouldnt be in his power, than you should absolutely let your opinion be heard. But Trump is really doing this to himself. When you antagonize people, some of them actually fight back. And some do care about how our country is perceived and believe Trump is just dragging our names through the mud.
  22. QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 6, 2017 -> 04:33 PM) When I used to do squares and strip cards, instead of 4th quarter, we said Final score to avoid stuff like this. Yep, haha.
  23. He allegedly threatened to send the US military into Mexico, so either he is just the worst bluffer ever, or he is about to crater himself. Because he simply doesnt have the political capital to start sending troops anywhere.
  24. QUOTE (New Era on South Side @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 05:39 PM) I'm really not sure who the far left is from reading this thread. Something about Shaun Hill and them not supporting Hillary? If far left is a new term, I just want to be able to define it. I actually dont really know. I just categorize them as people who refused to vote for Clinton because they didnt think she was "liberal" enough. I dont know if there is actually any sort of real policy behind them. Some other people here may be able to answer better.
  25. QUOTE (New Era on South Side @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 05:05 PM) What is the far left and how are they different than "a liberal" or just your average democrat? Im guessing we are talking about things like govt paid for college, universal health care, etc. Those are things that Democrats may support, but are not necessarily deal breakers.
