  1. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jan 7, 2017 -> 01:26 AM) I guess I don't understand the uproar over any of the Russian election stuff, particularly that the election shouldn't be valid because of it. I mean, I found it interesting as hell and super disturbing at the same time that Bernie never had a chance. Or that Citigroup picked Obama's cabinet for him basically. Or that Hillary was getting debate questions abead of time. Or that the media was asking for Hillary's approval for stories. Or even O'Keefe uncovering the bird-dogging etc. Blame the messenger all you want, but the real story is the corruption. I'm happy for the American people that some of the stink got exposed finally. All because some people were sloppy being stinky. If you dont understand the difference between corruption and foreign states trying to manipulate their enemy, I really dont see the point in having the discussion. Last I checked Citigroup didnt invade Ukraine recently. Honestly, Russia is probably laughing about how easy it was. Internet reinvented propaganda.
  2. Who knows what the future will hold, but at least Trump stood against the ethic's committee thing.
  3. Havent played since ootp 6.5, but from what I can remember there were people out there that make files and then you download them. Unless you can find someone awesome like Zoom to run a league
  4. Your model is far too simplistic and doesnt account for the fact that with people making more money they will have more money to spend. Also some of your assumptions are faulty, just because the lowest wage earner was given a raise, doesnt mean everyone else gets a raise. If jobs are scarce, then people who may have been normally paid $25 may have to settle for $17 or else be replaced by a cheaper option. That being said, in general increasing price not based on demand/supply usually ends in some sort of inefficiency. But the real problem is restricting immigration which has a much worse impact. But for some reason that is the boogeyman of the economy.
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 09:55 PM) If Hillary would have won, Chelsea would have been very visible during her 8 years. Do you deny that? When you are visible, you can run for president. Donald Trump won. Do you think he'd have won had he not had a popular TV show and been in the public eye a long time? Maybe if Clinton was running on the Republican ticket. But she had 0 chance of being the Democratic nominee. I cant think of a single thing that qualifies her. You actually have to have some substance/credentials to be the Democratic nominee. Well see if the Republican's self police, or if they turn their backs on America.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 06:59 PM) Is there any chance he won't get enough votes. I wouldn't be against it. I just didn't want Hillary; I don't really want Trump either. I think it's time for "next." The chance is closer to 0% than 1%. Actions have consequences. You chose to believe false narratives, you chose to not put America first, you get to live with the fact that you helped elect Trump. Hopefully he really wanted to make "America Great" and he will investigate into the Russian hacks irrespective of what the outcome may hold. He was a man so determined to find out the "truth" about whether Obama was born in America, well see if he has the same interest in finding out whether Russia is trying to influence American politics.
  7. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 02:23 PM) Pretty disappointed that Obama thinks that coming into the Oval Office will "sober up" Trump. What has he ever done to convince him that he won't walk in and just start pissing on the floor like he's done with everything else in his life? What do you want him to do?
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 01:23 PM) No, I mean that if I were a Russian dissident, would I want to give any of my contact information to an American provided network, when that contact information could be "accidentally" leaked to a Russian agency starting January 20? That sounds like a great way for a lot of Russian dissidents to wind up identified and dead. I was agreeing with you that any help towards dissidents or invitation for dissidents to help could end up in their arrest.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 01:13 PM) Oh joy, so we're going to open up communications lines for russian dissidents and then turn control of those open lines to a person elected with the help of Russia in a month. I'm sure no one can see any potential issue for low level Russian dissidents using that type of system. lol You mean giving a way for Russia to prosecute dissidents may not be the best way to "punish" Putin? Go figure. If you really want to hurt Putin, youd have to do something like hack into the banks and take his money. Otherwise youd have to hope to find information on Ramzan Kadyrov or someone else who could actually be a thorn in the side of Putin. I mean finding Putin insulting Kadyrov or Chechnya, maybe hurts him. Even if they find a smoking gun on Crimea, I just feel that they have information to blackmail Trump so it wont go anywhere.
  10. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 12:55 PM) I agree with you that it's a ridiculous conspiracy theory when all signs point to rebuild. I don't think its necessary for people to just turn this entire thread into trashing OP. Jimmy, you have good stuff to say, drive it there. Because you are actually arguing a point that no one is disagreeing with. Not one person has said "the Sox arent rebuilding", you just keep pushing that false narrative to be right. I guess that maybe is exciting, I dont know. But the first person said "to be devils advocate", my post said "well see what happens" and "a chance". None of that is conclusively saying "they arent rebuilding". But again, you cant even discuss non-conforming ideas on this board without being forcefully shouted down. I just wanted to throw some support towards the OP because I personally believe the board is better when you have non-conforming discussion. Thats just me, I dont need to make up arguments for other people to prove that I am a superior at speculation.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 12:42 PM) Yeah, Drake LaRoche conspiracy threads are far more compelling. lol Like I said, nobody can even post anything that is thought provoking. Read the post, I never said that it happened, I said that there is a chance. So far again the only 2 players who were traded were Sale/Eaton. If you dont think that businesses get rid of employees because they have problems with management, then I have a bridge in brooklyn for sale. OMG I said "Lets see how this goes" OMG I said "there is a chance". So crazy! If you dont think its interesting that the only 2 players the Sox traded were outspoken against the management, thats your choice. No idea why people wouldnt be interested in discussing actual evidence. But hey, I was here before any of the arbitrary "This board sucked", so I guess maybe some people need to start looking in the mirror, because maybe they are the reason. Oh and I never said that the Sox arent in a rebuild, just that if April rolls around and the Sox have only traded Eaton/Sale, then what does it say. Again, sorry for discussing an alternative outcome based on the evidence as of today. But the problem is, none of you needed to come into this thread. The thread was clearly "devils advocate" and a place to discuss "non-conforming" ideas. But again, that doesnt seem to be possible on this board at the present time. And for the record, I do believe that the Sox are actively trying to trade and rebuild. But its just so boring to read twitter rumors all day.
  12. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 07:42 AM) Seriously, they hire the only coach who doesn't think Gar Forman is a clown. Please, please get rid of Hoiberg. Of course, Vinnie del Negro got 3 seasons so I'm sure we'll endure more. WHY THE F*CK DID THEY FIRE THIBS. Thibs aint really setting the world on fire with Minnesota. But I can see why youd want a coach who is already overplaying Wiggins/Towns while going 7-18. That being said, not really sure what the expectations of the Bulls should be. Hoidberg is no Popovich, but the Bulls roster is kind of a Frankenstein's monster. I think the real problem is the front office, the roster is just stuck in the middle with no conceivable way out.
  13. How dare anyone on this website post something as a "devil's advocate" just to promote some discussion besides for the inanely boring "I saw this rumor on twitter." Maybe that was exciting back when the Sox were going to trade for Nomar, but I think that was the last time I got caught up in the "speculation hype train." So lets go back to what makes this forum great: "I saw some random guy on twitter say that X is going to happen!!!!!!!"
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 15, 2016 -> 05:34 PM) That's just it, I haven't heard anything about a respectable offer for those guys. Have you? Im not a GM so I couldnt possibly have first hand knowledge of any offer or non offer. Everything is entirely speculation. Which is why the entire post (which people keep somehow misinterpreting) was based on "Well see how this all goes, but there is definitely a chance that the "rebuild" was being used to distract from the real agenda." Notice the word "chance".
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 15, 2016 -> 04:17 PM) As we saw at the deadline, there is a difference between listening and asking. At the deadline they asked for both Betts and Benitendi. Then they put together a realistic deal for Chris Sale. The package that is being discussed with Houston for Q falls into the realistic category, maybe even light. Im not talking about Q. They can rebuild and keep Q, those arent mutually exclusive. Im talking about guys like Frazier, Robertson, Cabrera, Shields. If its a real rebuild, those guys should be gone as soon as you get any respectable offer.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 15, 2016 -> 02:56 PM) If you look at what they asked for from Houston for Q, they are perfectly willing to trade him, and he had zero to do with that mess. This isn't just to do with Drake LaRoche. I have no doubt that theyll listen to anything. But when you think "rebuild", you dont usually see teams holding out on trading guys like Frazier/Robertson for "perfect" deals. You usually see those guys get traded for whatever value you can get. (edit) And again, my post was more about "if no one else gets traded." There is still a long time to go before that becomes a reality.
  17. Strangesox, The answer to that is because you cant be something your not. I vote Democrat generally, but that is because of my personal views on the way government should work. The good/bad of Republic/Democracy is that people vote and sometimes their vote doesnt go your way. But just because your vote doesnt go your way, doesnt mean you start trying to game the system to get a victory. Because if you game the system it corrupts the system, and eventually the system isnt what I believed in the first place. So while I would prefer Trump did not win, he did. And as of right now, I have seen no real evidence that his win was not legitimate. It sucks that an outside country likely interfered in an attempt to make things worse for Americans, it sucks that a good amount of Americans fell for it, but that was their right as an American. They have every right to be sheeple. What the Democratic party needs to do is understand why it's message didnt get through to people who were better off Democratic.
  18. Unfortunately Obama and Biden seemed to believe that at the end of the day Americans would come to the right conclusion on their own. I can understand why they didnt want to be seen as directly interfering with the election as it could have looked bad. I think part of the problem was that they all believed Hillary would win anyway, and thus thought theyd have plenty of time to figure it out. It didnt happen, but again that is the fault of the people who choose to blindly ignore the evidence.
  19. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Dec 15, 2016 -> 10:22 AM) Or BENGHAZI!!!!! Seriously though, there's enough evidence that Russia did attempt to influence the election, so you have to hope that there are enough Republicans in Congress with the integrity to make sure that this is actually investigated. The Democrats don't have enough seats/votes to do it by themselves. This is an issue that should transcend party... I didnt feel like looking up how to spell Benghazi right, the others were easier. But finally we have a true test for all of those people who have so righteously said that they are all about "America." I wish I had more confidence that people would do the right thing here.
  20. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Dec 15, 2016 -> 10:06 AM) Guys, seriously. They're shopping Quintana, Frazier, and others as well. You wouldn't be shopping Jose Quintana if the whole purpose was to dump the Drake distractions. C'mon. Read the post, I said its a "possibility". As of now, they havent traded Quintana.
  21. I dont think its a coincidence that the only 2 players who have been moved so far are "Drake" fans. Well see how this all goes, but there is definitely a chance that the "rebuild" was being used to distract from the real agenda, getting rid of the outspoken "Drake" fans.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 15, 2016 -> 12:28 AM) If Russia can hack our elections, it's all over. You think the great minds in China aren't conniving ways to pollute our water system, ruin our environment? If Russia can dictate our elections through hacking, it's over. The end is coming. Cmon. It's too easy to infiltrate the inner workings of the USA because everything is run by computer and computer can and will be hacked. Greg, They didnt "hack our election". What they did was hack personal email accounts and then released certain emails to the public. So the real blame is on every American who didnt listen, who chose to care more about "lock her up" than the future of our country. The Russian's did what they had to do to try and beat the US. It was our job as American's to make sure that they didnt succeed. Its quite possible that the Russian's hacked Republican's, maybe even Trump. My guess is that if they have this information, they are going to use it for blackmail purposes. Perhaps as a way to get the US to agree to allow Russia to keep Crimea. Who knows, but you should be concerned. You opened the gates so that the barbarians could get in the castle, but its still not to late. All you have to do is make sure that congress investigates this with the same vigor as things like "Monica Lewinsky" and "deleted emails." You have to hope that there will be some Republican's who actually care about the people who served this country and died in service of the United States. Because anything less is a disgrace to them. They may as well have just sat home if you were going to let a foreign entity run this country. I made a plea months ago not to let this happen, I specifically addressed you. But in the end, you made a personal choice. So it wasnt China, it wasnt Russia, it was people like you. Sorry to be harsh, but sometimes people need a wake up call.
  23. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 05:25 PM) Bob Nightengale@BNightengale 5:25 PM Several scouts and executives say they actually thought the #WhiteSox did better in the Adam Eaton trade than the Chris Sale trade. The problem with Sale was its just really hard to ever get the right return for someone in their prime who is not overpaid. They could have tried to hold out to see if one day someone came with a crazy offer, but I think that they looked at all the offers and realized that it just wasnt super likely that deal was going to get offered anytime soon. It would require a bidding war between 2 teams that were in competition (NY/BOS) with part of the value being that it kept it from a competitor. I just dont think the Nats really cared if Boston got him. I think the Nats probably had remorse for not doing the deal, and were on tilt, which is why they overpaid for Eaton, because they didnt want to be runner up again.
  24. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 10:41 AM) I agree with this. This is a riskier deal than I thought we would end up getting. I figured we'd go more for a deal centered around lots of above average prospects vs. two higher end prospects and then a couple feelers. Puts a lot more pressure on the top two guys to produce. In general though, if it is part of a bigger strategy that ultimately brings a lot of overall talent back to the organization, then I think it makes sense. In isolation, I have extremely mixed feelings on the deal, despite obviously liking Kopech and Moncada a ton. Fortunately (or unfortunately) what the Sox did was exactly what they had to do. If this is a "real" rebuild, then the Sox arent going to be competitive for years, which is part of the problem with trading for guys who are in MLB or near MLB. You end up wasting 2-3 years service time just getting "competitive" and then by then the window is already closing. So the best thing to do is to get high end prospects who are at least 1, but hopefully 2/3 years out. That way when they come up you are looking at 5-6 years of control, instead of 2-3. The downside of this is that guys who are 2-3 years out are much less predictable. Moncada and Kopech are about as high end of prospects that you can get in the same deal. Not going to say that its "fair" value for Sale, because value is dependent on the market and at least for this year, it seems to be the "best" value. I really believe if Sale didnt burn some bridges last year the Sox would have been more willing to hold out and take a risk of seeing what develops around the trade deadline. But given what happened last year, there was some additional risk of keeping him.
  25. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 09:49 AM) What really didn't work was the dumbass contract he signed. Worked for us, though! Man, it's weird. Sale was super duper dominant, but I never really liked the guy. Hopefully he finds a groove in Boston and gets the recognition he deserved, but a divorce at this point for the haul we got works quite well for me. After the Drake Laroche incident, I just really stopped caring about Sale. After the uniform cutting incident, I realized that Sale just had to go.
