QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 16, 2016 -> 10:05 PM) This is why they got elected, at least as much as the electoral college. They told people it's ok to be bigots and that excited the Republican base. This is his act. It wasnt just that. They also sold fictitious solutions. I do believe that many voters bought what Trump was selling, but I have a feeling none of those people ever tried things like Trump wine. True story, if you have a wedding at Trump Tower, they serve Trump wine.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 16, 2016 -> 09:40 PM) Wait I thought Bannon said this. Who's they? According to Bannon: "You got to remember, we’re Breitbart,” Bannon replied. “We’re the know-nothing vulgarians. So we’ve always got to be to the right of you on this.” So I believe the "they" is Breitbart. I have a question for you: Do you think that there is any problem with someone who runs a news publication, who was very favorable to a Presidential candidate, then being named to the cabinet?
-
So I guess I overlooked this (or it was buried by our new media overlords), but the Christie conviction of Kushner's father is a pretty interesting read.

QUOTE (Tony @ Nov 15, 2016 -> 09:07 PM) Solid day. https://twitter.com/awprokop/status/798708532493381633 Gonna wait for Breitbart to weigh in on this, I only trust "independent" sources with no conflict of interest.

So already some rumors that Trumps tax plan is going to be increased from his original promise. The most interesting part is that he may raise the lowest tax rate from 10% to 12%, which is both hilarious and extremely sad at the same time. If its true, its just more economic madness. The poorest would get an increase to help pay for the cut for the richest. 1%! 1%! 1%! I wish there had been a group of people, maybe people who "report" "news" who could have informed all of us about Trump. If only we had something like a paper that had news in it. I cant even imagine what it would be called, but something where people could read about "facts." Well thankfully I get my news from Breitbart, because there could never be a conflict of the media,s interest when you have a Presidential candidate who then goes on to name one of the people who controls the information to their cabinet. Oh and since now I dont have to argue facts anymore because those clearly dont matter, Ill leave you with my conspiracy theory of the day. The reason Trump didnt release his tax returns was because it would show that corporations such as Breitbart had him on the payroll for the last 8 years and people would have realized the con.

QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Nov 15, 2016 -> 04:48 PM) But this is about trust. OK, we are the best military partner, but if you have a President who has stated he doesn't really care about civilian casualties, would you want them helping you? If your goods are being taxes to the hilt coming into the US, why wouldn't you do the same to the US? Of course, many countries have made embarrassing choices. But, those country's leader isn't considered the "Leader of the Free World." I'm sorry, but it matters. Right now someone else may have to step up, because the US has to fix its own problems before we can meaningfully help other countries. Part of the reason (I believe) Trump won is that a good portion of America doesnt want to be the world's police. They want to go back to isolationist tendencies that predated WWII.
-
QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Nov 15, 2016 -> 04:39 PM) It matters to a degree, sure. But we are still far and away the best military partner any of our allies have, we're still one of the best trade partners for a lot of these countries, and more to my point, it's not like these countries aren't themselves (1) being swept up in populist movements, (2) free of having made some embarrassing choices when it comes to their political leaders. Jenks, We shall see about being one of the best military partners. If Trump does not keep sanctions on Russia for their Ukraine invasion it will be a "Chamberlain" moment. I understand that its really hard to actually declare war on Russia over it, but at the same time we can not bend to Russia on this. Ukraine, US and Russia signed a treaty and it would be pretty horrific for us not to keep our word. Trade partners, who knows. The Republican party is now anti-free trade. So I am not exactly sure what to expect. As for what other countries do, I agree that most countries (if not all) have had their "Trump" moment. Who knows what will happen, but if Trump keeps his promises than we are likely not going to be a reliable military partner or trade partner. If that is what the Republican party stands for, so be it, it can be their badge of honor.

Rumor: Dodgers & Sox discussing Sale & Frazier
Soxbadger replied to DirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The Sox have all of the leverage. There are not many Sale level pitchers in baseball. There are even fewer that are available. If other teams dont want to pay, then the Sox shouldnt trade. There is 0 urgency for the Sox. Not to mention part of the price of acquiring Sale is also the value of not letting your competitor get him. -
QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 15, 2016 -> 01:17 PM) An American's best case scenario is the country to be middling for four years? Yikes. Well I dont speak for every American which is why I said "for me." Trumps economic ideas are (imo) lunacy. We are going away from everything that makes our economy run. Ending free trade, is beyond words. Slowing/stopping immigration, completely backwards. Increasing expenditures while decreasing income. And the list goes on. The social issues, well see. I personally think that America is better when we dont have govt legislating morality/religion. If 2 adults want to marry, whatever. They want to have sex, whatever. They want to do drugs, again, not my problem. But again in my opinion the best for America is that none of his policies are implemented. Almost every policy that he has proposed will at best do no impact, at worst will do negative. So when given the option of 1) losing a lot of money or 2) losing no money but gaining no money, I choose option 2. This is where we are right now, no amount of blaming the media is going to fix what people bought from Trump.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 15, 2016 -> 11:49 AM) But you say reap what you sow? It's not my fault Hillary was his opponent. Plus I'm one of those who didn't vote for either. No way I was gonna vote for Hillary or Trump. I'm sure there were a lot of people like me. If they feel that strongly about it, they should have voted at least for a write in. I didn't vote for one of the 2 candidates but at least I'm not protesting. Greg, Being complacent isnt an excuse. We all bear this cross, some of us more than others, but we are all responsible. You were duped. Can you even understand how impossible it was that almost no major newspaper endorsed Trump. We are talking about certain newspapers that NEVER endorsed a Democrat, not Bill Clinton, not Obama, not FDR, and they endorsed Clinton. We have become a country of suckers, a country of fools. A country where we dont "trust" science, where we believe in "boogeymen." And if you arent against it, youre for it. That is the America you helped to create, and now WE all have to come together to stop it.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 15, 2016 -> 10:23 AM) But stuff will still be happening domestically and globally that needs to be responded to competently. I have zero expectations of that happening and every single day has brought only more evidence in favor of that view, but we shouldn't treat that like it won't have potentially dire consequences. But you have to face reality, and the chances that Trump wakes up as a different person tomorrow is very small, possibly 0. So when given 2 choices, a) Trump decisions or b) no decisions, I think the clear answer is b. Unfortunately for the rest of the world, they are going to have to live with the consequences of our choices.
-
Eh, I think the best case scenario (for me) is that Trump angers so many people that nobody wants to work with him. For 4 years our country is in stasis, it makes everyone realize how messed up things have become and in 2020 we start to move forward again.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 14, 2016 -> 07:27 PM) Giuliani front runner for secretary of state. Glad Trump is doing his part to immediately dispel any idea of "benefit of the doubt" Im just so tempted to be ridiculous lately. I know itll pass, but right now the first thought I had was doing what Republican's did to Hillary: "You mean the guy who let 9/11 happen?"

QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 14, 2016 -> 06:57 PM) Pretty good post, can of corn. Can't argue with you. We did elect Trump. It's very complicated, however, as to why we did. Briefly: 1.) People are sick of government and a majority (or close to a majority; what a system in which the person who gets the most votes loses) desperately wanted to drain the swamp or whatever his saying was. I can't blame people for wanting to elect a non politician and get rid of career politician/liars like Hillary. The 'problem' is the non traditional candidate turned out to be Trump. I personally wanted Ventura but you guys told me he's scum as well. I also can't believe a 1 percenter is president. To the following post ... I ask. Trump said he was going to cut taxes. How does that not benefit the middle class? The scenario posted in the post below yours by Badger is scary if true. Low paying jobs? Trump said he'd create real jobs so ... is everything he uttered during the campaign a lie? If so, even the non traditional candidate apparently resembles the traditional candidate who lies, cheats, etc., to get what he/she wants. Amazing world. Do you think this is the start of Armageddon? I think electing a moron or having a moron in charge is supposed to begin the chain of events. p.s. My negative comments about Trump do NOT change my opinion of Hillary and my HAPPINESS she is done with politics. I do think the Kate McKinnon portrayal Sat night was sweet with that great song by Cohen, who passed away. How does cutting taxes not help the middle class? Well lets say I give you a $10 coupon, thats great right? But lets say now you have to pay $100 for something you used to get for free. You are -$90. The problem is that what Trump sold you was snake oil and now your stuck with it for 4 years. And I dont think everything Trump said was a lie, I think that I could probably find 1 or 2 things that were somewhat truthful, but for the most part he just flat out lied and no one even cared. They didnt care that he didnt release his taxes under false pretense (no one even talks about it), or that none of his plans made sense, or that he basically insulted the entire United States. All that 49% of the population cared about was catchy slogans. BUILD THAT WALL, LOCK HER UP. This is your America Greg, an America where Hillary Clinton is less trustworthy than Donald Trump. Let that sink in, Donald Trump, someone who has repeatedly changed his mind on everything. I mean just a few years ago Trump was a Clinton supporter. So what happened? Oh yeah, people stopped caring about facts. Reap what you sow Greg.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 14, 2016 -> 04:36 PM) I just assume all of these angry white folks in the Rust Belt will be ecstatic to take on jobs as slaughterhouse employees and janitors once we send all the undocumented workers back to their countries. This is the GREATEST nation ever, and once Trump is in office all of these problems are going to disappear. All of those "insider" rust belt workers are being put on notice. If you are unwilling to work for $.24 per hour then he is going to allow businesses to build their factories elsewhere. How can they not be happy with the plentiful jobs that are being offered to them? Trump is a man for the people and by the people, and now as the PEOPLE'S PRESIDENT, he is finally free to teach all of America how to be a GREAT, no, BEST, businessmen ever. And the first step is to find a bunch of suckers to believe in the hype. TRUMP just taught all of us how to do this in the past election. I personally will be selling an "elixir" that will make it so you never age. This elixir is the BEST elixir ever, it has really really great results, I mean BEST results ever. But, big media and the FDA doesnt want you to know about it, and they are going to tell you lies, that it will kill you, make your hair fall out. But that is because the media and FDA are against you, they are in the pocket of big pharma. Big pharma and science has been working on aging, for the last 2,000 years, and they have done NOTHING, NOTHING in 2,000 years. My elixir can solve this problem today.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Nov 14, 2016 -> 04:20 PM) So Donald Trump's proposed tax plan does basically nothing to help the middle class, hurts some of the upper middle class and helps the super rich. I can't wait till we hear more about all of his policies that will actually help the middle and working class. Are you unfamiliar with the working class? Has history not taught you that if you have an owner making all of the money that is the best for the employee? Perhaps you are unaware, but if the owner cant make millions, hell shut down the business, and then what? You have no jobs. Trump promised that he would get jobs and you can bet those jobs are coming back, jobs that pay under minimum wage, jobs that guarantee no benefits, jobs where you end up owing your employer. This is the American dream, dare I say, the GREATEST DREAM, a dream where everyone will one day be in the 1% while the rest of the world bows to our magnificent splendor. And we will attain this dream, all we have to do is deport every immigrant, put restrictions on trade and then strip away every free govt hand out. And then we will be GREAT again, actually no, we will be GREATER because America has never been as great as it will be soon.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 14, 2016 -> 12:18 PM) The president's home is the White House. WAS We are living in a new golden age of America, where things are now GREAT again. Trump is the next George Washington, Washington didnt live in the White House, neither will Trump! I for one have accepted our new glorious leader and am thrilled that he has selected all Washington insiders to continue to run our country. As Donald says "I am going to drain the swamp" and by swamp he meant the Everglades. Mabye you didnt know, but the Everglades has some great land, maybe some of the greatest land Ive ever seen and we are making no money on it, actually losing money, and I dont know if you heard, but one time Trump ran a project that was underbudget and quicker than projected, so hell have the Everglades drained by January 30. 2016-2017 NCAA football thread
Soxbadger replied to southsider2k5's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
So 2x this year Michigan has gotten the refs to call a penalty for roughing the snapper on a punt. I actually can't recall seeing it any other game I've watched. Seems like the snapper purposefully keeps his head down so it looks bad. -
QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 05:16 PM) More of the tolerant left http://www.fox32chicago.com/news/216771188-story I love the old days. You know what they used to do to guys like that when they were in a place like this? They'd be carried out on a stretcher, folks. -Donald Trump He did say he wanted to make America great again, guess he didnt realize how fast it would happen. So please spare me with this "tolerant" left/right. Neither side is righteous.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 05:04 PM) When I started at the restaurant in 2011 we had plenty of servers who worked full time and got benefits. When Obamacare went into effect they made it only so only 5 front of house employees got benefits other than managers. Everyone else has to be kept under 30 hours. We lost a big chunk of our staff due to it. Now we have servers who don't clock in until they get their first table and clock out when they're doing the closing sidework in hopes of getting another shift out of it. Why? Has your employer ever told you why? Not just said "its obamacare" but told you the actual reason. Because, does your employer have over 50 employees? Because if they had less, they didnt even have to be in Obamacare, but if they "chose" to, they got a tax credit. Many small businesses decided they wanted the tax credit at the expense of employees. But not many employers tell that to employees.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 05:00 PM) It certainly could have in theory, but the modifications and the push back of insurance companies is making it not so. Pretty much every good idea was bastardized in some way the last 8 years. Obamacare put some infrastructure in place to have a better healthcare system, but someone needs to fix the errors with not only the policy but with the insurance companies themselves. Rock, Never forget it really isnt about helping those people. Its about convincing them to vote against self interest because 99% beats 1% in every election. Most people are just not informed enough to actually understand the "rules" so when someone says "Im cutting your hours because of Obama" they dont understand that the person who is telling them that, may not be truthful. I think there are certain people on this board, who forget that when Im not wearing my "good" guy hat, there are people in the 1% who pay me to figure out how to look at the rules and make sure they make the most money while giving out the least benefits.
-
QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 04:58 PM) How does that work? Figure keeping them on FT for benefits keeps them off OC, not the other way. I'm clueless on business. Well what he said is not 100% correct. Originally the bill made it a 30 hour work week to try and prevent what employers had previously been doing prior, which was to give an employee 39 hours so they would not qualify to be part of the insurance plan. This kept the insurance plan cheaper for the employer, which generally limited the insurance to upper management/salary workers. In 2015 a new law was passed upping the hours back to 40, so you saw employer again going to the old way. Its a pretty disingenuous (or fundamental misunderstanding) to blame this on the health care law. The health care law originally was trying to help workers who were basically "full time" but getting no benefits.
-
QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 04:52 PM) Indeed it's quite a constraint on small businesses. They'll lead you to think it'll help the lower class but all the corporations (at least in the service industry) cut people's hours to make sure they don't get Obamacare. Corporations have been keeping people under 40 hours long before Obamacare. Unfortunately rules that would protect those type of workers are never going to get any traction unless the country dramatically shifts left.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 03:50 PM) Hey that's true, I don't disagree. I'm just tired of the sexism nonsense when we literally had the exact same "predator" type guy in office for 8 years in the 90's and i'm sure there are stories about Kennedy and Johnson. At least Hillary wasnt going to get accused of inappropriately touching women. Keep your hands off Merkel, Trump!
