QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 29, 2016 -> 02:06 PM) Because that's why we vote for presidents, to preserve the legacy of the predecessor. Being an adult is being self-sufficient, accomplishing goals, taking interest in the lives of others and making the people around you live better lives. Voting plays no part in being an adult. We don't live in a democracy, we live in a republic. Voting, as a citizen of Illinois, is wasting ~21 minutes of time I could better utilize elsewhere. There are other issues on the ballot besides for President.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Sep 28, 2016 -> 04:10 PM) I don't think this is ALL political. You're going to see a big action against SA soon. Whether they can prove it or not is another matter. Jurisdiction is provided in the law btw. And the theory is that will seize foreign assets to pay. But you're right, what happens if they don't respond. There's no one to haul into court unless you go grab an ambassador maybe? I didnt read the law but I kind of guessed that they must have given jurisdiction. I have no doubt that some lawyer(s) will take this case, but I just dont really see it as a winner. Evidence is going to be a huge issue, not to mention SA has pretty much unlimited funds, so I bet they appeal even if they lose. I mean its 15 years later, if this was a legitimate move, it should have been done years ago. (edit) Also the ambassador would be immune, so that is the problem with any citation etc.

QUOTE (shysocks @ Sep 28, 2016 -> 02:11 PM) So let's say a family successfully sues Saudi Arabia in a US court. How is payment enforced? I don't understand who this helps. This bill is just nakedly political. What am I missing here? I actually have no idea how this would work. At the most basic level there has to be "jurisdiction" for a court to even hear a lawsuit. Generally speaking, courts dont have jurisdiction over foreign countries. Even if it gets through that stage, the Plaintiff's would have to prove that Saudi Arabia directly damaged them in a way that has not otherwise been compensated. If they successfully prove that, then they would have to collect. I guess if Saudi Arabia has money in banks etc they could theoretically get a turnover order. But what if they dont even respond to the citation? Generally when that happens you get a rule to show cause and then a bench warrant. Who could they even get a bench warrant against? Its purely political and if Obama was up for re-election he probably doesnt veto it. I also think there is a slight worry that another country will use this as precedent for the US to be sued in their court system.

Picked up Smallwood (Eagles RB) this week, lost on Rudolph and Darkwa. I actually believe Smallwood may have more long term value so Im pretty happy I got him for $0. It is really a speculation add, but its a 14 team league so there really arent many players to add.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Sep 27, 2016 -> 01:03 PM) Yep, you're right guys. Why try anything different. Dem policies are totally working. At least they aren't slaves! Could be worse! Do you even realize how condescending you sound when you speak about other peoples issues? First of all as I said previously, it can be worse. So when you start "It cant be worse", you show a complete lack of understanding of their issue. Second, you have no connection to the inner city, so there is an actual legitimate question of if you even know what they are looking for. So again, it comes off as a hollow because it's someone else telling them what to do, as if they cant think for themselves. If they want to be Democrats/Republicans or whatever that is their choice. If you want to try and convince people to join your side, you should probably articulate how your side is actually going to improve their lot in life. Merely saying "its not good right now" does nothing. If anything it shows how little you think of them.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Sep 27, 2016 -> 12:12 PM) Yeah, no one's saying that here. We're saying that blacks vote for Democrats and their position in society has not changed for decades. So why do they keep voting for the same types of people promoting the same types of policies that don't work or are never enacted. Maybe you should listen to them? Cause seriously you ask the question, get an answer and then basically say "Well no." And also maybe rethink the whole "it cant be any worse" or "their position hasnt changed." You have to remember that for a good part of American history, things were tangibly "worse" for black people. Slavery, disenfranchisement are just the tip of the iceberg. People are so disconnected that they actually think police shooting black people is a new thing. When the reality is, it just now is being caught on camera. So when you say "its not any better", you are just completely writing off their opinions for your own opinion. Just cause Donald says it, doesnt mean its true. Now maybe things arent great in the inner cities, maybe they could be better, but you dont hear a lot of "Damn I wish we could go back in time to when it was better." That is why its hollow. Because maybe things arent amazing, but they realize that things could be a lot worse.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 27, 2016 -> 11:27 AM) By the way, that is my presumption. IF he is just stiffing people to stiff people, well that is another story. Its Trump's business model. Even with the Trump tower in Chicago he screwed a bunch of people by canceling their contracts. http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2007-01...hotel-contracts He then changed parts of some contracts to make them less lucrative. http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2008-02...p-trump-project

QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 27, 2016 -> 11:06 AM) I don't think you are understanding what I am saying. Perhaps I am not articulating it well. I am not arguing that she should not ever engage him...that is unavoidable. But she can do so by staying above him and avoiding the laughing and the big grin and then "WOW" reactions. That serves no purpose other than her own ego and comic relief for hardcore democrats like yourself who are already voting for her anyways. There are actually reasonably intelligent voters who are considering Trump and that type of behavior does nothing but turn them off. Shack, If that behavior "turns them off', then why is it okay when Trump does similar behavior, should that not turn them off to Trump. I honestly think that Clinton was acting that way on purpose. Whether or not it was a good plan or a bad plan is a judgment call. I personally think that if someone is lying that being demonstrative can be effective. That being said, Trump is far worse when it comes to this stuff, not only does he make faces, he starts talking over people. If people are okay when Trump does it, but not when Hillary does, then its more than just her facial expressions. Those people are likely "looking for an excuse" to vote for Trump. (Edit) I just think the problem for Hillary is Trump tries to make her look "weak" so she cant just stand there and take it other wise it opens her up to the "stamina" etc, stuff.

QUOTE (Tony @ Sep 26, 2016 -> 11:40 PM) The crumbling is when he feels like he is losing, and he starts going after Bill and the Lewinsky stuff, just starts getting really personal. His base will eat it up, but he'll get destroyed across the board by the press. I think it could happen. It almost did tonight (which Rudy confirmed). I just dont see how Donald can open that up with his past history. Or is it going to be "Better to do the cheating than to be cheated on."
-
QUOTE (Tony @ Sep 26, 2016 -> 11:15 PM) My take away was she had him on the ropes a few times, but didn't finish. She won, but it was far from a knockout, and for this not to be close in November, she is going to need a knockout at some point. I think she could get in during the next two debates if he gets rattled, but she needs to get more aggressive and more prepared. He'll crumble if she pushes him hard enough. I dont think hes going to crumble. He will just do what he did today, repeat, repeat, repeat. I mean Hillary has been fighting ISIS for 38 years, why not let him take a shot at it. No matter what gets said, he always can rely on "Ive never done anything in politics so I can blame everyone else." Another opening Hillary missed is when he said something about $700mil of revenue. The easy opening is "How can you make all that money and tell everyone how terrible the US is." USA has been pretty good to Trump.
-
I also forgot that Hillary let him off the hook for the racist housing practices. He first started with "well lots of other people were doing it", but then kept saying "We settled with no admission of guilt." Well, thats most of those investigations go when they settle. Also, she now has better footing with any of the allegations against her cause she never was even investigated, which is better than "settling".
-
If Trump wins his supporters have earned it. Trump basically admitted he literally would lie, cheat and steal to save $1. And yet people are going to "trust" that he can do all of these magical things. Hillary missed a few huge opportunities to really take it to Trump. The first is that he kept harping on bringing back jobs. He then bragged about how his corporation is successful in other countries. Should have asked why he doesnt bring his jobs back. There were some others too, its generally when he starts bragging about his success that he lets his real personality show. Like how about never paying taxes, going bankrupt and not paying people. IE He says "Its the best hotel/club/building in the world." Then says "I didnt pay them because I wasnt happy with the job." So its the best building in the world done by the s***tiest contractors. But hes a good con man, you dont make "$764 mil" If you arent good at convincing people to buy things they dont want.

QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 22, 2016 -> 02:26 PM) This is one of the few times where I'm thinking it's kind of nice to have an election for a judge. I don't think Evans would be doing this if he wasn't fighting for his life: https://www.wbez.org/shows/wbez-news/juveni...m_source=Eloqua Cook COunty will hold hearings on the weekends for juveniles now rather than only m-f. Meaning kids won't be locked up over 48 hrs, it is the same policy as adults. edit: I am stupid and didn't realize this was not a public vote after reading about it in the trib. Points for lack of democracy again? Never get arrested on a Friday night. Not every County has court on Saturday. But yeah kind of strange that they had 2 different policies. And the judge vote is so political, some judges were "given the day off" to make sure that they could vote. Wonder who they voted for.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 22, 2016 -> 02:04 PM) I have gained a ton of respect for W since he left the White House. By and large he has stayed out of the way of the President, respected the office, and let him run the country, not involving politics in things. The times where he has made himself known in public it has been in an effort to support Obama as a person, and/or to do something positive for the country. No matter what people may think of Bush's choices as President, I feel comfortable saying: 1) I dont think Bush is a bad person. Whatever choices he made, I truly believe he made them because he thought they were the best for the majority, not because they were in some way the best for him. 2) If I had the choice of Bush or Trump, I would pick Bush. Even if Bush is likely more conservative, I still would trust him a million times more. 3) Post Presidency Bush has been nothing but a good model for America, which kind of carries on the tradition of other Presidents. Now I may disagree with a lot of things that happened, but its easy to sit on the sidelines and criticize. Plus, I think a lot of people misunderstood his humor. When I read that "Now watch this drive", it makes me laugh. When all you hear is doom/gloom, maybe its good that you have a guy in power who enjoys the little things.

QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 22, 2016 -> 01:44 PM) Ha, you are right that this could be the first pres without the goofy golf pool pics. I've never seen her golf. Does Hillary even have any hobbies? I dont think Ive ever seen her doing anything fun. So I looked it up and this is what it lists: http://www.celebritybeliefs.com/hillary-clinton/ Hillary Clinton Hobbies Some of her favorite hobbies are playing scrabble, doing crossword puzzles, and gardening. She is very passionate about politics and considers her work as one of her hobbies.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 21, 2016 -> 07:06 PM) http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationw...0920-story.html Obama to spend 2 days a week campaigning for HRC. Hopefully this is coming from his golf schedule... Congress made it clear they don't want him working. Won't even vote on his supreme court nominee. Funny part is 4-4 means lower court stands and a lot of appellate courts lean left. Unintended consequences ates my favorite.

Since I had nothing better to learn about today I decided to find out who Bernard Sansaricq was. So it appears all of his hate towards Clinton stems back to the early 90's when Jean-Bertrand Aristide was elected President. After he was elected President, there was a military coup that replaced him. The US/UN backed Aristide. As part of Clinton's campaign he promised to restore Aristide as President of Haiti, in 1994 US troops assisted Aristide in returning to power. Bernard Sansaricq was elected in 1990 (the same year as Aristide) and supported the coup. http://articles.latimes.com/1994-05-12/new...0_1_white-house I am not familiar enough with Hatian politics to make any real comments on whether Aristide was a good or bad guy, whether the coup was a good or bad thing. That being said, it does appear he has a long grudge (legitimate or not) against the Clinton's that is based in Aristide's return to power. There is some stuff here: https://books.google.com/books?id=XLvU9lroR...iti&f=false About how Sansaricq may not have even been the President of the Senate as he was appointed by the military and another man, Firmin Jean-Loius, did not relinquish his title and was still recognized by the international community. I cant really find what happened after the govt returned in exile, but the book I quoted above states those elected 1993 were replaced by the exiled legislators. That would imply that Sansaricq may have lost his Senate seat. I tried to do some research on any times he mentioned the bribe prior to his congressional campaign, here is the only article that predates his congressional campaign that I can find. http://www.csmonitor.com/1993/0805/05071.html It seems the "clinton bribe" started to come out in 2008-2010 when Sansaricq began contemplating a run as a US congressman.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 21, 2016 -> 01:20 PM) As someone who is holding Josh Gordon in 2 leagues. I am disappointed to hear that he has a warrant for his arrest for failing to provide a DNA sample because of a woman claiming he's the father of her kid. I know there's no rhyme or reason for the way the NFL penalizes the players and there's obviously no precedent for the treatment of a guy like Gordon but what happens here? It would seem far fetched that this would result in any further penalty as it is a civil issue. The warrant would be for "contempt of court." It would be no different than failing to pay child support. I cant find any cases where the NFL suspended someone for that, so I would think there would be a similar result. But like you said, NFL does whatever it wants.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 21, 2016 -> 12:22 PM) I didn't go on some long post about it. The guy said what I said he did. I didn't make any claims about the Clinton foundation or HRC. Just posted the link with a sentence on what the guy said. "But yeah, believe the guy who blamed the US for his failed coup in 1982." - I sense sarcasm here. I'm not sure why. The USA has a long history of sticking their nose where it doesn't belong militarily. Particularly when it comes to regime change. I don't know the particulars of this case, but they sure have f***ed up plenty in the ME and in South America. When you post something, you take ownership of the facts that are in the post. If I link something thats not credible, that hurts my credibility. If you post something not credible, it hurts your credibility. If you are okay with that, so am I. And perhaps read the article that I linked from 1982 and perhaps you will see why the guy in the Youtube video may not be the most credible person in the world. Again, he is claiming that Bill Richardson through Clinton attempted to bribe him. This is something that he made a big issue in his campaign for House of Representatives.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 21, 2016 -> 11:26 AM) Former President of the Hatian Senate says HRC defrauded the people of Haiti. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=phKO2T2pMjM Did you actually watch it? He claims that in 1994 Bill Clinton tried to bribe him And that the "Clinton Foundation" misappropriated funds designated for Haiti. The problem with attributing this to Hillary is that Hillary was not even part of the "Clinton Foundation" at this time. Haiti occurred in 2010, Hillary did not join until 2013. So even if we are to believe every word he said, none of it involves Hillary. The bigger problem is that everything he has said about the Clinton Foundation has been fact checked numerous times and no one can figure out where he is coming from. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fact-ch...as-never-built/ But yeah, believe the guy who blamed the US for his failed coup in 1982. http://www.upi.com/Archives/1982/02/04/Ber.../6577381646800/ And dont misinterpret this as support for Hillary or Clinton, this merely just my personal hate for lazy fact checking.

I have Stewart and I barely even bid on Whitaker because Carolina does crazy things and hell probably split carries with Artis-Payne and Tolbert. I paid to get Enunwa and I got Beasley for free. Just felt more confident going after guys who lesser risks.

QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Sep 20, 2016 -> 10:22 PM) Have you found any info on parking or tailgating? Or anything on the event at all? The only thing Ive seen is the list of performers and on ticketmaster it tells the event time (although it claims it ends at 8pm). Kind of odd with it being so close, but who knows what I am getting.
