QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Feb 19, 2016 -> 02:07 AM) I'll keep this brief and not go in to much detail, but.....how many years younger than a guy is "too young" would you surmise? Or is it probably more likely based on a sliding scale. Long story short, I am talking to a girl younger than me and while I feel weird about it, no one I work with seems to care. It's my family/friends that I worry about. I'm almost afraid to introduce her to them for fear they will question her age. For anyone who doesn't know my age, she's 18. How old would I be if I was too old for her? I'll hang up and listen. There is a mathematical formula for acceptable age. Age/2 + 7 Ie If youre 24 the youngest you can date is 19. Im partially joking but that formula is actually a real thing. That being said, when I was 21 I dated someone who was 19. I liked to go to bars and stuff so it was horrible cause she had to use a fake id, etc. After that experience I decided Id never date anyone under 21 again. Right now my gf is 8 years younger than me, sometimes its strange because there are things from my childhood etc that she has no reference to. But we have a lot of similarities and it generally works. It also just barely is okay on the formula (haha). But really its your choice, dont worry about what other people think, just consider what you want and how your lifestyle works.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 16, 2016 -> 08:25 AM) I pirated that s***, f*** Tidal. His music has been on a steady downturn since he got with kim and its not a joke. Each album is more and more fillers. I meant the live stream. And I think Yeezus is Kanye's best album. Havent heard Life Of Pablo yet.

Kahn was pretty terrible. There were a lot of "wtf" moments when the picks were made.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 04:34 PM) Besides, if fans can't figure out what a simple statement like the one they released today actually means, why would the Bears release something that contains an element of unknown and really confuse them? Well I always suggest that you remain silent.

Curry basically knocked Wisconsin out of the NCAA tournament his final year. But given his position and build it was pretty impossible to imagine that hed become a top 5 player.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 04:29 PM) There is a big difference between what is said in public, and what is said in private. We only know what was said in public. And I have no idea what was said in private, which is why my first post was merely wondering why theyd take such a stance. For all I know both parties agreed that this is what they would publicly say (which would answer my own question.)

The internet was a lot different back when this place started.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 04:04 PM) HAHAHA HAHAHAHA Paying 30 year old RB's rarely works out. The Bears agree with me. You act like the Bears are a successful franchise that deserves being given the benefit of the doubt. (edit) And the part I love is that people are acting like Id suggest bringing Forte back. I doubt that he will make sense given what his likely contract will be. That being said, I think the Bears handled it wrong. Those are 2 different arguments.
-
QUOTE (shipps @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 03:59 PM) Nope. They should have low balled him and pissed him off enough so that he is publicly bitter until the next regime comes in. Why wouldnt the best option be: "Hey Matt we think you are an amazing player and we appreciate everything you have done. Unfortunately there is a salary cap in the NFL and while we would love to have you back we think that you are going to get a multi-year offer that is far in excess of what we can afford at this time. If that doesn't materialize or if you want to try and work out something that is extremely favorable to us, please contact us to discuss." Different strokes for different folks, but to me that is the best option. And I dont think its really comparable to Urlacher wasnt likely to be signed to a big contract where the Bears could go "The money didnt make sense."

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 03:43 PM) If you want to run in courterfactuals, can you find an example of where a established franchise star player came back to a team and said they would play for minimum wage? It is a bad business model to invest in statistically bad investments. Signing old running backs is like buying lottery tickets. Maybe one pays off once in a while, but that doesn't mean the odds of it working are anything but small. There is nothing wrong with the Bears being honest with Forte and their fans that they won't resign him. Honestly it is a sign of respect to both Forte and the fans that they aren't going to play games with either, when they have zero intent to bring him back. I dont need to find an example. My argument is simply: Keeping your options open is always the best business practice when there is no impending deadline. You are the one who is arguing that it is somehow better for the Bears to tell Forte under no circumstances would we consider bringing you back.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 03:39 PM) Successful organizations are paying attention the relevant industry statistics, and aren't worried about what is popular, versus what is a statistically correct decision. How do you know what is the "statistically right decision" before you know the stats? FA hasnt started, you dont know what the market for Forte is. But if Forte said "ill take league minimum" the statistically right decision would be to re-sign him. The Bears decided not even to wait for the market to play itself out. Again, its illogical.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 03:35 PM) Packers, Steelers and other successful teams would be doing the same thing. Can you find an example where another team prior to free agency told a player in their prime "We arent even going to attempt to re-sign you at any price." QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 03:36 PM) Yeah, of all positions to be sentimental about, RB is the worst. The hits add up, and those guys fall apart quickly. Really it has already started with Forte seeing his own fair share of injuries. If you want to talk about this being a business, you have to get past the fuzzy fan stuff and realize that Forte is most likely a walking time bomb for the team that signs him next. This isnt about fuzzy fan stuff. This is about business. If Forte walked in the door and said "Ill take league minimum to be a Bear" you are saying you wouldnt sign him, thats just silly. Its not like Forte has an offer of 4 years X dollars and the bears say "We arent going to match." I assumed the Bears would not sign him, I just think its bad business to tell a model employee that under no circumstances will we consider bringing you back.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 03:22 PM) Bad example. Jones wasn't even 30 when the Bears let him walk. Forte has a ton of miles on him. Spending their money elsewhere isn't a dumb idea. Thomas Jones was 29, and the argument isnt about whether the Bears should spend money elsewhere. Its about burning a bridge, its about creating an atmosphere where other players dont believe that they will be taken care of. But again, with all the Bears success over the last 30 years, I can understand why they wouldnt want to run their team like a successful organization.
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 03:13 PM) They don't care what the market is. They want to play different people at RB. They are moving on. Smear teams don't pay $$ to 30 year old RBs I bet you were saying that the Bears should get rid of Thomas Jones and keep Cedric Benson. Cause you know, RBs over 30 are always worse than younger rbs. LOL

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 02:52 PM) This isn't a fortune 500 company. This is a pro sports franchise. They don't operate like Wal-Mart. That really doenst seem to be a good reason. Free Agency hasnt even started, there is no way of knowing what the market for Forte would actually be. The simple way of handling this is to tell Forte that they believe he will likely get an offer that is far in excess of what they can make, but that if it doesnt happen they would be glad to discuss a potential deal. Doesnt hurt anybody and doesnt burn a bridge. But I guess Ill defer to the Bears because they have had so much success in the last 30 years.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 01:21 PM) No need for pointless speculation and silly rumors to have both parties have to waste a bunch of time on. Who cares about rumors or pointless speculation? The Bears are a multi-million (if not billion) dollar corporation. Just because they think Forte may be too costly, doesnt mean that you dont keep the door open and say "Hey we think you are going to get paid a lot more than we can afford, but keep us in mind if that isnt the case." Good companies always keep the door open to good employees. You never know what will happen.
-
I will never understand why a team would say they wont even try. Maybe the market for Forte was weak and he would have come back for a good deal. Its almost always better to leave the door open to something.

haha bad phrasing, I meant goes on tour early this year.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 06:22 AM) Interesting to release an album and then not make it available for anyone to actually buy it. The Tidal stream worked horrible for me yesterday. I am expecting that he may make it exclusive to Tidal for a week or so (like Dre did with apple), going to be frustrating to wait but whatever. Hopefully he tours again cause Yeezus Tour was easily top 5, if not top 2 concerts Ive ever seen.

What are your goals? If youre looking for a long term commitment it may not be the place to start. If its just for fun, then it is really up to you.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 10:04 AM) This is the key difference. The Sox obviously disagree that he is worth it. I would agree mostly due to age and inconsistent career. I respect your opinion, just disagree with it. I agree that he probably is not worth it and is cashing in on a walk year (although impossible to predict the future). That being said, for a team like the Sox I think its even more important to be cautious because a big signing that fails is far worse than no signing at all.

QUOTE (shipps @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 03:27 PM) Every god damn position player that has ever played for the Sox in my lifetime has frustrated me more times than not. FRANK MOTHER f***ING THOMAS

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 21, 2015 -> 10:20 AM) I think the bigger issue was that Rei was so powerful without a moment's training. Rey isnt developed enough to know for sure that she hasnt received *any* training. It's possible Rey was trained at a very early age. That being said they are clearly setting her up to be a powerful force user. On the other hand I think they are also trying to show that Kylo is not fully developed. He is not a Darth. My guess is that in the next episode he will become one. But I think that as of now Kylo would be the weakest dark force user in any of the Episodes.

Probably will post more later but saw it last night at 1am Imax 3d. 3d can still sometimes be awkward. Some scenes it seems forced, they would almost be better off not forcing it, but just my opinion. As for the movie. Im pretty shocked that no one else has mentioned how much of an homage this is to episode 4. Luke is in the desert, droid with an important message ends up there, Luke runs into droid begin saga. I could go on and on with how much the movies parallel each other. Honestly George Lucas could have never gotten away with it. That being said, I thought it was great and Im glad about a lot of things. Clearly they took a long look at the books, but glad they didnt copy them because then there would be no surprise.

NCAA basketball 2015-16 thread

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 03:23 PM) Why is it cool to f*** up the hiring process of your boss before you retire? Alvarez could have fired Bo (HAHAHAHAAHAHA). But in all seriousness Bo Ryan is Wisconsin basketball. One day the court may be named after him. Alvarez is screwed no matter what. He isnt going to hire another Bo Ryan, its just not possible. Not to mention I think that many Wisconsin fans trust Bo Ryan more than Alvarez when it comes to basketball. In my opinion Bo Ryan made Wisconsin basketball. If he wants to pick Gard to be his successor, he earned that right. And if the program crashes and burns because of it, at least Wisconsin respected the best coach they ever had. I think most Wisconsin fans are honest with themselves. The last 2 years are more than anyone could have dreamed and Wisconsin had their chances. It probably wont happen again, but that is why those wins meant so much and the losses hurt so bad.
