QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 02:12 PM) There have been a few CBB writers that have called in to the Score that have said he did this so Gard would get it, and Alvarez isnt really too keen on giving it to Gard. He planned on retiring over the summer and letting Gard have it but Alvarez said he wanted to do a coaching search so Bo did this. Dont know how true it is, just what I have heard I think most people agree that had Gard been guaranteed the job Bo would have retired after last season. Things got complicated when Barry said that he had to follow Wisconsin law and post the position. At the same time Gard's father was diagnosed with cancer, so Bo did not believe Gard would be able to put in the necessary time/effort to compete for the Wisconsin job. So Bo basically got Gard a half season audition for the Wisconsin job. It also gives Gard a chance to get his name out there for other openings if he doesnt get the Wisconsin job. I ultimately think Bo feels that if Barry didnt pick Gard this summer, that Gard may have not had a job this year so he helped a guy who had been loyal to him for over 20 years. -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 08:14 AM) The difference being that the players would get vilified for quitting on the program. Well there certainly is a fringe minority who is complaining that he left. But let's review the actual facts. Bo Ryan said at the end of last year he was retiring. He wanted Greg Gard to take over (Gard has been his assistant for over 20 years and has turned down HC jobs to stay with Bo.) Barry Alvarez said that he had to do a search for the HC job pursuant to Wisconsin law and could not just give Gard the job (which is ironic since Barry gave Bielema the job without a search.) Gard's father was diagnosed with cancer and Bo felt that it would be detrimental to Gard's chances at a becoming the next HC so he agreed to postpone his retirement. It sucks that he wants to retire, but that is his decision, same as if a player wants to retire. Its not like Bo is going to coach for another team, hes done. -
If you just want tacos you could try Antique Taco. I dont think they take reservations but they do have margaritas. Last time they had a Dreamsicle flavored one that was really good.

No one can ever tell the future, but if we look at our past the US has already made grave mistakes with regard to refugees at a time of war. http://www.ushmm.org/wlc/en/article.php?ModuleId=10007094 Its really up to each of us to determine whether we want to let fear motivate us into changing who we are. To me this isnt about refugees, its about the idea that we are making a change because of our fear. There is nothing wrong with the other belief, I just personally am not going to give into their attempts to change me due to fear.

Its just xenophobia. Even if you look at 9/11 15 were from Saudi Arabia, 2 from UAE, 1 from Egypt and 1 from Lebanon. The obvious problem being that Saudi Arabia is considered one of our "strongest allies" in the Middle East.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 17, 2015 -> 03:10 PM) Haven't we been arresting people that are doing this? Not sure that's the "easy" route. The easy route is to have someone here try to convince others already here. This was if they wanted to give them "military training". I think it would be harder to do military training in the actual US, as opposed to a camp in Libya, etc.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 17, 2015 -> 02:55 PM) Much much easier than being allowed to send in a trained solider? Pray tell Well if you want to get someone into the United States, the easiest way would be to recruit a US citizen and then have them return to the US. The second easiest way would be to recruit someone from a country friendly with the US (Turkey) and have them visit the US with a valid passport issued by Turkey. A refugee would be one of the worst ways to send someone to the US as unlike the other ways they would actually have to apply to the US for that status and thus would be much easier to track/find. Lets just all be thankful terrorists are for the most part not really bright or great at what they do. If they were they could inflict extreme amount of casualties with almost no way to prevent it.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 29, 2015 -> 03:53 PM) Ok...so I'm going to guess most people in the country, immigrants included, would not know this. Maybe I was born here but I've never thought of it nor have I ever even heard of the 1966 Cuban adjustment act so maybe I'm just ignorant but I feel this whole post is a giant stretch given how uninformed the typical voting public (& evidently me as well) is. Well there is a reason why we have an electoral vote and not a popular vote, and that is because some of our founding fathers didnt trust regular people to make informed decisions. The only reason I brought it up is because a lot of people equate Cuban immigrants with Latin American immigrants, when its not the same. Cuban's have a special rule that if they get to the US they are automatically granted residence in the US. It's commonly referred to as "wet foot, dry foot". If they are caught at sea they are sent back to Cuba, if they make it to the US, they get to stay. Prior to 1995 if they were caught at sea they were still brought to the US. Thus a Cuban who enters the US is never an "illegal immigrant." This is completely different than if a Mexican immigrant crosses the border. Many illegal immigrants (especially in Florida) harbor deep resentment to Cuban's because Cuban immigrants never have to worry about being considered "illegal". But this will never be discussed at any debate because no one really cares about facts or the hypocritical nature of the US immigration policy, nor the fact that immigration restriction goes against basic market capitalism. Its really why all of this is meaningless because our country has been reduced to catch phrases and memes.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 29, 2015 -> 02:45 PM) It's a joke because the PRESIDENT shouldn't be concerning himself over a relatively small problem like daily fantasy sports. That's why we have state governments and federal departments and, I dunno, f***ing Congress that investigates and legislates these sorts of issues. This is precisely why our system is so f***ed up. We expect this one person to magically solve all the world's problems. He's one f***ing guy. And 99% of the time, he doesn't do s*** to effectuate change. He's a poster boy. He gives speeches. I'd vote for the next candidate that says "i'm going to step back and let Congress decide wtf to do in this country. I'll worry about how we look and how we interact with our allies. Everything else i'll just help enforce." But that isnt the reality. Its important to know what the President thinks because he can do things like "veto" legislation, he can tell the AG how to enforce policy, etc. It would be like saying asking about marijuana legalization is a stupid question because it should be up the legislature. And really, isnt the more terrifying part that the idea of limited federal govt is pretty much dead? And really thats a huge problem. It seems no one even cares about state/federal rights, unless its in their favor.

The immigration policy for Cubans is vastly different than what most immigrants face. Its far easier to become a citizen as a cuban immigrant due to the 1966 Cuban Adjustment Act. So its unclear how other ethnic groups would see Rubio because in my experience other immigrants generally do not like Cubans because they perceive Cubans as being given special treatment.

He shot one wide open 3. Not that big of a deal if he does that 1 or 2 times a game. Its when he starts shooting 5+ and half of them are contested.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 28, 2015 -> 04:28 PM) Handing public money over to private charter schools doesn't decrease expenditures. Instead of talking in generalities can you point to exactly what you are talking about? (edit) Screw it I did my own research. Who knows if its accurate but according to this study, charter schools spend less. And quite frankly Im not confident in a study from the University of Arkansas but its your argument to prove (that they cost the same) not mine: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/opinion...0908-story.html
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 28, 2015 -> 04:08 PM) Yeah some of that was definitely inherited, but he's proceeded full-bore with charter schools, privatizing CPS janitorial services, etc. The results of these actions are almost always 1) lower pay for workers 2) worse quality of services performed and 3) private companies enriched with public funds at the expense of public services and employees. Thats a lot of generalization. What is your solution. You have a negative budget, how do you propose to either 1) increase revenue or 2) decrease expenditures.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 28, 2015 -> 03:45 PM) Also full-bore with privatizing education You do realize that article is talking about deals that Rahm inherited. Not sure how you can blame him for the parking meters, at least he tried to cancel the deal. The same thing with Park Grill restaurant lease. Just because something is "private" doesnt make it bad, just because something is "public" doesnt make it good or vice versa. But when you attack something, you have to start with the facts. The facts are Chicago has significant debt, something that Rahm didnt create. So given that debt, you have to make decisions that maybe you wouldnt make if it wasnt there. People want everything. They want a pretty city with amazing free stuff. Well it just doesnt work that way. (edit) Pettie4, There are a million other solutions, people will just like them far less.
-
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Oct 28, 2015 -> 03:35 PM) I hope they fry Rahm. That schmuck and the city council just approved a property tax hike. How else do you expect the city to pay for things? As SS2k said, Rahm was left with a horrendous budget deficit, unlike Daley he is trying to fix the problem now instead of making it even worse in the future. Nobody likes taxes, but at least Rahm is willing to take the publicity hit to try and salvage the Chicago economy.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 28, 2015 -> 11:55 AM) Yeah...I was aware of the banking issue and I would presume you'll have some state savings & loans pop up, but problem is you are out of luck having any form of FDIC protection, I believe. Not an expert but interesting and I presume someone is going to jump in and tackle the banking issue. The fact that 1 in 11 commercial buildings rae being used for marijuana is yet another reason I wouldn't vote. I wouldn't want 1 in 11 commercial buildings being used for booze or strip clubs either. The concentration is because its legal there and not many other places. If other states made it legal it wouldnt be as concentrated. Its the same reason there were bars/liquor stores near the Wisconsin border when WI was 18 to buy alcohol and IL was 21.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 27, 2015 -> 03:45 PM) I dont think the defense is going to drop off as much as people think. Thibs defensive concepts had been largely adopted across the league and the Bulls still have a lot of experience playing it. I just dont think their entire tape sessions will be dedicated to it. I agree. Its not like football where they are entirely changing the defensive concept. They are almost undoubtedly going to give up more points, but that will be because they play at a faster pace.
-
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Oct 27, 2015 -> 03:31 PM) Without defense, I don't know. The bulls were never really offensive juggernauts, they just shut other teams down. Hence the intrigue. My dislike of Thib's is well documented on this forum and one of the issues was (imo) about his offense.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 27, 2015 -> 03:03 PM) I think the Bulls win tonight. They usually do much better in the regular season against the Cavs/LeBron. It is when the season is on the line that the LeBron led teams crush the Bulls. This is my completely uneducated guess as well. Im somewhat intrigued to see how they do under a new coach.

Things were a lot different back in the beginning.

I was born in 1981, when I was a kid I used to watch Empire Strikes Back repeatedly. My parents were not into the movies at all, so hard to tell where I got it from. Episodes I, II and III unfortunately suffer due to being compared with IV, V, VI. There is just no way to have the shock factor of the Darth Vader reveal in the prequels. Who knows what the reception would be if you dont know that Anakin turns into Darth Vader, the same goes for Obi-Wan, Yoda, Palpatine, etc. There is just no way to repeat the impact of the originals because there was no surprise. That is why they erased all of the post Return of the Jedi canon. Will they be as good as IV, V, IV? Who knows. It will be hard to compare, but they have a chance to be really good. Oh and I wouldnt be surprised if Luke is in semi-exile like Obi-Wan. In fact I wouldnt be surprised if it follows a very similar story arc. Luke tries to train new Jedi's and one of them turns to the dark side, with Luke having to come back to defeat them.

Terrible slide.

QUOTE (shipps @ Oct 13, 2015 -> 05:06 PM) Within these next few innings is historically the Cubs perfect spot for the "curse" to show its nasty head. So we will see. Maybe they have rid themselves of it. Well it would really need to be something extraordinary because STL looks terrible.
-
Its pretty clear even the Cardinals have no confidence in their offense. 2 outs and pinch hitting. Just a desperation move from a team that doesnt really belong in the post season with all of their injuries.
-
If the Cards cant score 5 runs against Hammel and the cubs bullpen they dont really deserve to win anyways.
