Good to see you.

In the end, everything is opinion. Reasonable is an opinion. I fight the trademark office on what reasonable is monthly when they have a different opinion of whether a "reasonable" person would be confused by how similar a mark is. All discussion could be a good thing, but some discussion is a waste of time. Anonymous arguments on the internet whether the other person isnt even willing to consider an opposing view is a waste of time and energy. But something needs to change, irrespective of what side of the fence you are on, the country seems to be going in a poor direction when it comes to trying to actually solve issues that our country faces.

If you were for slavery, youre on the wrong side of history. If you were for the holocaust, youre on the wrong side of history. I wasnt talking about anything necessarily current, just its good to have people on record for their beliefs. I think it holds people accountable. Wasnt me. I dont think Ive ever spoken about student debt.
-
I think that its important that people who are actually reasonable have an outlet to try and discuss topics and perhaps come up with resolutions. Different opinions are good. I can talk to myself If I just want my own thoughts. And yes I do think discussing things in public helps. Especially at a place where some of us have been 20 years. Facebook, twitter, comments sections allow anonymity where there is no accountability. Here you have to stand by what you say, you know that years down the road people will remember if you were on the wrong side of history. We need to find a better path and that begins with people talking.

The last movie is going to be an odd experience, Im not sure that there is anything I can relate it to. For the first part of my life, the idea of more Star Wars movies was this mythical dream that seemed unlikely to happen. Then somehow the prequels came out. After that, the idea of the final 3 movies again became this white whale, something to imagine, but that likely will never happen. Now that the final one is here, its hard to imagine a world where there isnt some part of me thinking of a what if for these movies. Its been decades and now it will end. Its crazy to think that 30+ years ago I was watching the first movies.

You probably know this better than me, but it really just depends on the person. Some people can take the negative comments and use it to drive them to be better. Im not saying that trait is ultimately what it takes to be a successful professional athlete, but it sure does come in handy in any field where your performance is open to outside criticism.

Anyone have strong feelings on Gurley? I could get him with draft picks for next year but im on the fence how much he can do. Its 2 wr/2rb/2flex I already have Mccaffery, Melvin Gordon, Montgomery, Sony Michel, Damien Williams and Hunt. All the good wrs have already been traded. Which is what i need (juju/boyd have underperformed so Sutton is arguably my most reliable) My feeling is Gurley is an upgrade but the other guy wants too much (assume a 4th round next year)

And he caught 75% of the passes, which is nearly identical to White's career average. Albeit smaller sample size, Cohen has a higher reception percentage than White (74.2% to 73.9%). But the idea of the short route is its the equivalent of a run. If you run 20-30 times, plenty of them are going to be for 3 yards or less. But if you get Cohen in space enough eventually he gets loose. Its a low risk play, and it makes the game simpler for Trubisky.
-
Not sure if its possible to get the statistics, but in my opinion White runs many more sub 5 yard routes than Cohen does. Those are easy catches. Similar trend with Montgomery. Many times hell be wide open 5-10 yards out and Trubisky will try and throw downfield for a much more difficult completion.
-
The first question is the problem with Nagy. His usage of Montgomery has been criminally bad. Look at the Patriots and how they use Michel/Burkhead/White. Use Cohen in the White role, get him in space on the outside and still have Montgomery in the game.
-
Great coaches use the talent they have to build a system around them. That (imo) is my biggest problem with Nagy. Instead of creating an offense around what the Bears have, he is trying to force them to do what he wants.

For many years Filibuster was my favorite part of this board. In our current times it is more needed than ever.
-
The biggest problem with Solo is that they expected it to do good and that there would be a sequel. I guarantee that in retrospect they wish they had introduced Darth Maul half way through the film.
-
The strange part of all of this, is that Nagy seems to have no plan. Ive seen teams with bad lines before figure out ways to make things happen. But for a coach who is supposed to be an offensive guy, he really just lets the offense stagnate. Bubble screen to Cohen? Screen passes? Fly sweeps? These are all the type of things that are done to take advantage of the defense when they are getting up field to fast. Another problem is that Trubisky is completely adverse to check downs. Many times there are rbs who can get 5 yard passes and he goes downfield. Its a hard team to watch on offense right now, and it starts at the top.

2019-2020 Official NBA Thread

I think for the NBA the side you want to be on is the one where you can make the most money. The amount of fans who are going to care about this in the US is likely negligible. But you are possibly losing access to millions of fans in China. Trade deficit has no relevance on that front. Maybe in a different era the US govt could try and intervene and protect the NBA / free speech, but the US already dug its heels in against China. Maybe we can threaten really hard? Maybe well ban Chinese products from being sold in the US? A country with citizens who have freedom will always face a challenge against a totalitarian regime. The US govt just cant simply turn off the station. Thankfully the US hasnt gotten to the point where if you insult the govt they turn off the TV. Though it sadly seems we are getting closer to it. -

The govt is useless, any type of pressure they could have exerted has been lost the last year. Fans? The NFL got itself in a bad spot with freedom of speech and quickly realized no matter what side they took it was bad for business. The last thing anyone wants is turmoil. Players couldnt even make a difference for Kaepernick, you think that they can make some significant change in China? Im sure that (insert brand here) already has their people telling megastars not to get involved. Its one thing for Nike to support Kaepernick, but no way are they going to risk the entire China market over a Lebron tweet. If you want to beat change China, it will take a well implemented plan. Right now the US is a complete shit show and every other country knows it. -

Pressure how exactly? Finish this idea "If you dont play NBA games on TV we will...." Thats the problem there is no pressure, The big entertainment companies arent going to come help the NBA, they have spent years cultivating relationships with China to get into the market. The only real option is either to give in or go the South Park route. I have no belief that an organization run by billionaires is going to go the South Park route, even if I think that is the most successful option available. -

There is really no way to approach this topic without this thread going off the rails. But right now China is emboldened, they are taking advantage of the fractures in the US. NBA could live without being in China, but that is potentially throwing away huge money. I just dont see owners caring that much about free speech. -
Also I hate the way he uses Cohen as a RB. A change of pace back works best when your bigger back wears on a defense to start. There are just so much better ways to get Cohen the ball in the run game that arent running up the middle.
-
Part of the problem is that the sets they use for running arent that amazing. Too many runs out of shotgun, it doesnt really let the lineman get going downhill. I think the last series is the first time Ive seen them in I-form all year. IMO Nagy spends so much time thinking of clever plays, he gets away from working on the basics. The Bears are up 28, its not the time to be running Patterson up the middle. Its the time to get Montgomery work, etc.

Kraft has better lawyers and knows how to keep his mouth shut.
-
From the Steelers perspective the trade then makes sense if they think he is better than anyone they could possibly draft next year.
-
Its a peculiar decision. I figured theyd test out Randolph and then go for a QB next year. That being said, if Ben is planning on coming back, maybe they think this sets them up better for next year as well.
