First day would have been extremely unlikely unless you were at something like 10 years 400 mil and told his agent if he didnt accept by the end of the day theyd offer it to Harper. At minimum Lozano has to contact yanks/phils and see if theyd get in that range.
-
Older than that. At casino's its what they call high rollers.
-
My concern is that the reports of $175mil werent as crazy as people thought... Its not bidding. This isnt an auction where after going three times its sold to the highest bidder. Its a contract negotiation. Im not sure if you ever negotiated a deal like buying a house, but if a house is on the market for $500k and you offer $400k, 9/10 you dont just sit on your offer saying "im not bidding against myself." The 2 parties try to bridge the gap to get a deal that is mutually beneficial. Its all speculation, but if the Sox were the front runners, they should be working every day to bridge that gap and get the deal done, irrespective of other offers.
-
Im sure there is a price point that gets the deal done. If the Padres report is true, the current offer is significantly lower than what a reasonable team thought Machado would cost. This is all speculation, but it seems like the Sox were really trying to get a huge discount on a player who is extremely valuable because they thought they were the only game in town.
-
Ive been saying this for weeks. When you are the front runner, you want to get the deal done as soon as possible.
-
I think the Sox want excitement for Soxfest, but I think holding off on Machado is unreasonable. I compare it to something like Comicon. For the most part everyone knows what they are getting, but they also keep a few surprises so that people buy tickets hoping for the "unknown."
-
The only way it makes sense is if the Dodgers really see something in Bummer or Fulmer. Or feel that they somehow fit a need.
-
I think people overestimate the Dodgers being "bent over a barrel." I believe Pederson makes $5mil this year. That is pretty insignificant and can be moved at any time.
-
Let all the sharps on the board tell all the casuals how trading prospects for ofs is a good use of resources.
-
The bold is my concern. And the Sox history makes me worried. Hard for a tiger to change its stripes.
-
Its just very hard for me to be so optimistic about Machado until the deal is done. When youre the front runner you need to close the deal. People will hate my take, but i feel the Sox are going to sell the moves they made as big, and that this is the course.
-
I dont like 2 years of control, unless there are more moves to make the Sox much more competitive. If youre moving Anderson/Machado next year to of, you have Eloy and Robert etc, why are you spending prospects to get Pederson for 2 years? Seems maybe better to use prospects to get pitchers or guys with more control. I guess thats just a casual fan question.
-
If this happens, I unfortunately think sox fans aren't going to love the price.
-
Or Steele...

Professional courtesy. What do Dodgers care if its announced tonight or tomorrow? Its not like they need to process it so players can play soon.
-
I got no sauces.
-
Ill answer. The Sox likely did something. They are keeping a wrap on it for Soxfest. Its possible it leaks, but unlikely any real confirmation until tomorrow.
-
No one. Thats the point. If someone gives you info, and then you leak it when your not supposed to, they dont give you info again.
-
I agree with Rabbit. Reading between the lines the people who seem to know something are purposefully not leaking due to Soxfest. No one is going to burn their sources like this guy just did.
-
I feel like this is just someone who is reading this thread and running with it.
-
Surprise twist, Yonder is just stating a fact, that Machado is his neighbor in Miami. Really damn cagey Yonder.
-
And that is fair. But also the posts should be prefaced "If we acquire Machado." And that is the point that I am making. And you cant first trade for Pederson, unless you have Machado for sure locked down. In my time as a White Sox fan, I can count on one hand how many times they have landed a player of Machado's level in free agency (i think you could say 1 finger and be safe.) So while I am hopeful, I just am not overly confident.
-
If the Sox get Machado its an entirely different equation. But as of today that hasnt happened. Without Machado (or another huge acquisition), I just dont see the path where the Sox are serious competitors in 2 years, where Pederson is going to make a huge difference. My personal opinion is the Sox should hold onto all of their prospects (I was more talking spects than MLB relievers) and then use them to try and cash in on something bigger. While a guy like Rutherford/Bush may not get a lot on their own, those are the type of guys who can be added as *sweeteners* to get a deal done for someone who can have a serious impact. My biggest issue, is that I really am starting to feel like Pederson is an end, not a beginning. And if the Sox acquire him, that will be sold as a big get if they miss on Machado and Harper.

People who are suggesting trading valuable pieces for Joc Pederson who only has 2 years of control. Taking a shortcut is trading valuable prospects for a 2 year rental. This strategy is exactly what the Sox did post 2005. Ever year they would "retool" and try to just be good enough to win the division. The problem is that winning a division and winning a world series are much different propositions. Now anything can happen, and even a bad team can get hot for 15 games. But the odds arent in your favor. Thus the whole point of the rebuild was to shoot higher than 80-85 wins, was to do better than using guys like Tatis to get Big James. It was to hoard young assets. It was to have a low payroll. It was to build up a team that was competitive on its own, and then use the excess pieces to create a team that is great and that has longevity. 2019 should be the year when young guys get a chance. If Pederson had 3-4 years of control, it starts to make more sense. But im not giving up Rutherford for Pederson for 2 years.
-
People werent really ready for what a rebuild meant. You dont start taking short cuts to maybe get 80-85 wins.
