  1. Captain Morgan was kind of a joke, if people wanted it on the North side Id suggest Redmonds (they have a pretty sweet Friday drink special, but who knows if it will be there in January). Otherwise Id probably be game for any bar off of the Red line.
  2. Id rather have Paulie and Id rather pay up. But some times you just cant make a deal happen.
  3. Sox and PK will split the baby Solomon style. I still believe PK will be back with the Sox, but you cant hate him for squeezing every dime out of what may be his last huge pay day.
  4. Well its a decision potentially between family and friends. Not exactly something that is an easy decision to make. I think the Sox are trying to put some pressure on Konerko to make up his mind one way or the other. Konerko could take forever if he thinks both teams are waiting by the phone hoping that he calls.
  5. Both sides are trying not to look like the bad guy here, but something has to give. I still think that Konerko ends with the Sox, I just think the Sox want to show him that there are other options available.
  6. Boo the West Side. I was at Congress on Saturday and it took forever to get a cab out of the West so I could return to civilization. I suggest the Captain Morgan Club at Wrigley Field. Located right off the Red Line it there would be nothing more satisfying than enjoying a cold refreshing drink at the home of the most successful minor league team in America. haha Anyway, if this really gets off the ground I would try and attend, even if it is in Siberia aka the West Side.
  7. They are going to have problems trying to run it. The best solution would be to sell the Dodgers to a third party and split the proceeds. That way they can both move on. There is also a possibility of appeal, etc. Hard to tell without reading the pleadings though.
  8. Expect the worst, hope for the best. I definitely think a run attack is less susceptible, just going to be a tough game.
  9. Well the Jets just lost THE Jim Leonard so obviously their defense is in disarray. In reality I think the Bears have a better chance than the Jets did. Cutler > Sanchez
  10. That is one of my concerns. You hate to have a team that is so hot sitting for a few weeks. I am hoping that the fact Wisconsin is based on a running game will help them get on track quick. The other concern is what to do with Clay. Clay had surgery in the off-season and never has really been the same. He got hurt early in the season and that gave Ball an opportunity. The combination of Ball and White has been arguably more effective than Clay & White. By the Rose Bowl Clay should clearly be healthy, but what do you do? Clay was Big Ten offensive play of the year last year, and then you bench him in the Rose Bowl as a redshirt junior. Clay was also a very big Wisconsin recruit, who decided to stay in state over an offer from OSU. TCU is going to be a tough challenge, and if Wisconsin is going to win, they are going to need to throw the ball effectively. Tolzien won the Unitas Award, so hopefully he has a great game. Toon and Kendricks hopefully will be healthy and that is just a very talented offense. Wisconsin defense may be a concern. Defense becomes easier when the game is out of reach as you dont have to worry about the run. In a close game Im not sold that Wisconsin can stop some one, which is how they lost to MSU, couldnt stop them on 3rd down. Id take Wisconsin but I dont bet on teams I care about, cant think rationally.
  11. I doubt TCU runs over Wisconsin. They area great team and Wisconsin is the underdog, but Wisconsin has been pretty solid this whole season. And Im not sure Iowa is Wisconsin's "Super Bowl." Iowa is a good team and its important to Wisconsin fans because a lot of their friends went to Iowa and the whole BB/Alvarez thing, but I never considered Iowa a big game when I was at Wisconsin. It was OSU and Michigan, with Michigan being the game you would want to win more than anything (Wisconsin has always had trouble with Michigan). Now the biggest game is OSU and with them being in the same division Id guess that rivalry takes precedence over a team that we wont face for another 2 years (unless Iowa goes to the Big 10 championship game). People speculate that Iowa/Wisconsin could be added as a second protected rivalry when the conference goes to 9 games, but Wisconsin requested Nebraska, not Iowa, so who knows.
  12. Damn you AZ for driving up the price of Chicago players.
  13. That article had fun math. 10%= 157mil 1%= 1.57mil ????
  14. The team could get fans, but it would need 1 of 2 things to happen: 1) Superstar/winning team. Everyone loves a winner. 2) Ownership group. If its owned by Walter Payron's ghost, Mike Ditka and other fan favorites, plenty would support. I was at the Belmont Red Line stop on Saturday night and saw that Depaul plays at All-State. Got me thinking if Depaul could work something out with the UC (wasnt sure of the logistics). If Depaul and the NBA could some how get a Northside Arena built, that would most likely be pretty attractive to fans. Getting to the UC is a chore, and Im sure there are plenty of people who just want a party atmosphere.
  15. As recently as 1994 TCU was in a large conference the SWC, which was part of the first bowl coalition. SWC was one of the conferences who helped create the system that leaves smaller teams out. So yah, TCU is completely different.
  16. TCU was also in the SWC and claims 2 shared national titles. If it wasnt for some shenanigans when the SWC broke up, it was likely TCU would have joined the Big 12 over Baylor. They are in no way similar to Boise State or other "little guys". They are a program that once was in a bigger conference, who got bumped for 15 years and is now back in a big conference.
  17. Why would you care if a Big East team is in the National Title game? TCU isnt a little guy anymore.
  18. Which top tier Big 10 team did Illinois beat? I dont see OSU, MSU or Wisconsin. I doubt even Illinois fans would argue that Illinois is a National Championship contender, or deserves a shot at a National title. Wasnt that the argument? Who deserves a chance to play to be the best team? Fresno State has been one of the best WAC teams for a long time, and I believe they have the most wins against BCS teams of any non-BCS school. They definitely are one of the best non-BCS teams every year
  19. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 03:17 AM) Oh my goodness! How does a lowly WAC team defeat a team from the mighty Big Ten?!? Surely each and every team in the mighty Big Ten is head and shoulders above the lowly and pathetic WAC! The fact that Illinois (a lower tier Big 10 team) was able to compete with an upper tier MWC team actually proves the point most in this thread have been making. Fresno is considered one of the harder games a team like Boise or Nevada plays. Those teams should not be losing to Illinois at home, Illinois only won 1 true road game in the Big 10 at Penn state. It just shows an average to below average Big 10 team is about as good as an above average MWC team.
  20. Balta, I havent seen a significant correlation between tax decreases and economic growth or tax increases and economic growth. So unless we are going to drastically cut spending, were going to need to make more money and raising taxes is the most practical solution.
  21. Wow Celek just destroyed a guy, looked like it was helmet to helmet. Wonder if the league will fine an offensive player.
  22. Well AJ signed for a lot less than many people were expecting so maybe the Sox just wanted to jump on the deal? Until I hear Konerko is close to signing with another team or the Sox pick up a 1b/of, I think the Sox are the favorite to resign him.
  23. Konerko and I think the Sox are willing to pay to win. How many more chances does Jerry have at winning? My guess is he has played it safe with using Sox money over his reign, so its a lot easier to pitch spending money on a few years for the hope of a title. Konerko has been nothing but great for the Sox and has represented their brand well. If you are going to take a risk, you may as well take a risk on the guy who already has made you money. I think they sign Konerko, sign a guy for the bullpen and call it a day.
